Wow, another one from TXG. I had given up on golf several years ago because i just didn't enjoy going out and STRUGGLING to break 100. Now, my 7 y/o son is golf-obsessed, so I've been creeping back into it. I love Ian and Matt at TXG, and they recommended this video. I took this to the range this afternoon, and the difference was unbelieveable from basically the very first shot. I'm not turning pro any time soon, but at 42, I can honestly say that was probably the best and most consistent I've struck the golf ball in my life. It didn't cure every swing, but it definitely made a HUGE difference, and it was pretty cool to hear my son saying, "Oh my God, Dad. You hit that one so far!" You kind of made my day, Andrew! This is something I'll definitely keep working on!

I just went to the range and had a session using top tracer immediately after watching this and I can whole heartedly say this is the first KZbin where I saw a difference right away. Definitely felt weird for the first few strikes but then I immediately saw an improvement not only in ball flight, but actually seeing draws for the first time, as well as an overall carry increase of about 15 yards across the bag. Its a joke you've only gotten 46k views since 2016. THIS is what golfers wanting to improve needs to be watching and practicing. Thank you Andrew!

Superb video and the best visual explanation I have seen - it has helped me immensely, the instant I tried the curling under movement everything else in the swing connected, it also highlighted another fault I had with the left hand grip as I used to have it too much in the fingers. In essence this was the catalyst that connected all the other swing fundamentals together. I've never compressed the ball better and can even start working the ball both ways.

I actually did this naturally and had big issues with hooks. I tried to feel a more cupped wrist and open club face in the backswing and now I hit it pretty much straight. On camera, my wrist does not look cupped though, actually neutral with a slight tendency of bowing. I think it should be emphasized that doing this to the extreme (e.g. looking like Dustin Johnson) may cause problems with hooking the ball.

+robo931 if it's not real then why can you feel it?
@johnthebob18 жыл бұрын
The easiest way to tell if you have a cupped wrist is to look at the top of the swing and see where the club is pointing, with a cupped wrist It will point more toward the ground an will not be parallel to your arm.It's all about face to path, if you slice the ball like I used to, this is a great fix. If you do not slice the ball and try this then you will hook the ball unless something else in your swing changes as your path is the same but your face will then be closed to the path. I started doing this a few weeks back, nothing I learned from anyone it just mad sense to me as I was slicing the ball and my game has gained the consistency I have been looking for. My path was great the issue was an open club face. I admire those who can cup the wrist and still play well as it would take so much precision in the downswing to square the face it seems

Great video Andrew. Question? I have always had a cupped left wrist at the top of my backswing. When I hit balls using a straight or slightly bowed left wrist I tend to hit a lot of shots left of target, especially under pressure in a golf game? Also is it worth changing and trying to perfect at 54 years old? I am a 8 handicap.Thanks! ~Mr. Kelly

1:45 Joe Mayo (TrackMan Maestro / self-proclaimed title) didn't come up with this idea! The "Maestro" stole this idea from Brian Manzella (Twist-Away Move), who stole the idea from Joe Dante "The Four Magic Moves to Winning Golf" (1962). The Dante book is a golf instructional classic.

Andrew, is this more of a feel vs real thing? I noticed on your full swing your wrists are more flat at the top. Whenever I try to bow my wrists, I feel bowed but when I look at the mirror or a video, they are more flat than bowed.
@andrewricegolf3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. It's a real thing, but the FEEL is often more exaggerated than the REAL.

Hi, I’ve just read an article you did about lie angles being too up right some years ago. About 7 months ago I went from a standard lie angle set to a fitted set of mizunos at 2* upright. I WAS a natural drawer of the ball and now I have a high weak fade, I know that most will say it’s a swing fault and some of it probably will be but you are the only person I’ve found that believes that upright angles can cause a heel problem. Do you think it would be worth getting my clubs flattened? Thanks in advance
@andrewricegolf4 жыл бұрын
That's a tough call Tom. Getting your clubs flattened would most likely encourage more fades. I'd have to see what's going on in order to accurately diagnose what you need. Sorry!

I've have gotten lessons on doing this move. But the one thing I noticed from all who teach it is. They only do it on practice takeaways. Do a slow mo video of them actually hitting a ball. Their wrists are no where near the suggested move. The same with this video. I've been working on this at the range but cannot hit a ball correctly. So I still cup my wrist a little to hit the ball good.
@andrewricegolf4 жыл бұрын
If you hit the ball good with a cupped wrist no need to change. Stay the course!

The wrist position at the top of back swing is meaningless. It's the wrist position at impact that counts. One can have a totally cupped wrist at the top and bowed at the impact. And, IIANM, your left wrist at the top is "square", not "bowed", no ? Cheers !
