Rice Essays that Stand Out (WHAT YOU'RE MISSING!!)// Rice essays are a necessary component of a successful common application. The rice application essays ask you to share valuable and strategic information as to your student ID, meaning that the rice university supplemental essays want to know how you would live and learn on their campus. Rice essay prompts are key because they are the essays that will be how to get into rice university as they picked the rice university essay prompts specifically for you. One of my favorites is their take on the why us writing supplement, which is what of the rice experience appeals to you; however, they don’t stop there. Rice university essays ask about your chosen major and have other key questions especially the rice perspective essay. In this video, we will dive into your why us essays along with your potential rice university acceptance. If you stick with your college essay tutor, Dr. Josie, we will cover supplemental essay and writing supplements not just for rice but for quite a few other schools so that you can write your acceptance and decide where you want to attend. Make sure you stop by for the rice essay tips but stick around for commonapp college essay tips and other strategies for a successful application season. With a few students at Rice, I know what rice essays that worked look like and rice supplemental essays 2020 are no different. Make sure you combine our expert guidance with rice university supplement essay example. Good luck!

Do you think it would be okay to upload a collage of pictures for the “rice box” that includes images from all of your interests?
@WriteYourAcceptance
@WriteYourAcceptance 3 жыл бұрын
@@oliviakemper9909 hi Olivia you can but keep on mind a few things 1. It should feel like one picture. If the collage looks too busy or like it’s too personal then it misses the point. The image needs to speak to them about you. So like accepted students have put a stock image of a person playing in the sport the student talks about in their app. So the collage idea is productive but if it has a central message or idea. I have seen a book bag image with stuff coming out of it and each item coming out of the bag was representative of the student. So kind of like a collage but anchored by a main image. At the end of the day don’t over think it and don’t - THIS GOES FOR EVERYONE - don’t put rice in the box. Good luck!

For the box prompt, I'm thinking about having a picture of stairs and then editing pictures of objects on the stairs. At the bottom are things that represent my childhood like toy animals and candy, in the middle are things from middle school like chess pieces and math stuff, and at the top I could have things that represent my current hobbies like chess (again) taekwondo symbols, skateboard, lightsaber, etc. Basically a stair with things that represent my life as I grow up. Is this a good idea for my prompt?

So it sounds interesting but what I would first ask is what are you sharing about these images already in the rest of your application. Make sure it isn't just random items you share to just show age progression. I would rather less items but that each connect or expand upon a story that you have shared about yourself in the rest of the app than so many items and they dont have significance beyond the pic.

@@WriteYourAcceptance My personal essay is about chess so I definitely want to include chess pieces. In my "why this major" essay, I wrote how my fascination as a kid with cool gadgets like lightsabers combined with my love for math inspired me to pursue engineering. In my "How could I contribute" essay, I haven't written it yet but I'm planning to write about how I help others in Taekwondo as a black belt and how I helped teach kids reading at a summer job. In my extracurriculars, I have chess, Taekwondo, reading summer job, skateboarding as a sport, and a few others but I'm not going to include those in the picture.

Hi, is there a certain number of Rice courses, organizations, etc. that you should reference in the short supplements? For example, in the "Why This Major" essay, I only talk about my major allowing students to become specialized in specific disciplines and a professor who I thought did interesting research. I used these two at the end after talking about my own interest. Should I try to include more than just this, though?
@WriteYourAcceptance
@WriteYourAcceptance 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Sounds like it’s pretty set with research. What you want to make sure is that you balance your rice info like courses, research opps etc with details specifically related to you. It’s better to have less number of Rice resources listed if you can thoughtfully craft the case for why you authentically see yourself there especially how it feels like a natural progression for work and interests you have cultivated. Long story short there are no specific number of courses or profs to mention. Good luck!

@@WriteYourAcceptance Yeah, I intended to apply physics major, and my first supplement is how music had influence on my will to explore the world of physics. Basically it is about me from just hitting the piano keyboard to realizing that piano is actually a string instrument (I used to think piano as just a keyboard instrument before 12😂) and that the wavelength and frequency could determine the chords. It later on boosts my will to learn more about physics. I don’t know if it fits the requirement of the first supplement question. It would be really nice if you could share your idea with me😃

I was thinking of doing a collage with my face and other pictures and drawings in it. I am majoring in engineering and this would have nothing to do with my supplementary essays, but I'm a pretty artistic person and I feel like it could be a cool way to show that! Do you think I'm better off doing a picture that relates to my essays?
@WriteYourAcceptance
@WriteYourAcceptance 2 жыл бұрын
Ooooh that sounds fun! I like it, what I would suggest is somewhere else in the supplements mention art or that you have an artistic side and that if only for fun you will pursue this interest beyond the classroom at Rice...maybe in the 150-word essay of what appeals to you...and your case can be that it is a unique institution that will allow you to advance your career in engineering while also engage in ...and then find a student club or an art festival that plays to your artistic side. I advise this so that the pics don't seem in isolation on completely disconnected from your overall app. good luck!

Just found this after submitting my application lol! Not that I can change it now, but is it ok if I did not tell a formal story in my essay? I referenced experiences of course, but nothing as clear as the examples you stated. You talked about how many of the essays will be in two parts with a story being the first, but what if the separate parts were not as clear in my essays?

I know this is late but would love your input on this essay. For a different community essay, I talked about my experience playing soccer through childhood (I added details beyond soccer) and how it helped me form deeper relationship with my father (we watched soccer together) and how it helped me connect with others through the game when I was an immigrant to another country (early High school). As a standalone community essay I think this works but for Rice specifically that emphasizes cultural traditions, I'm not sure if this works. Do you think this works or do you have any tips?
@WriteYourAcceptance
@WriteYourAcceptance 2 жыл бұрын
So the premise sounds promising, but I would not consider any essay as a standalone essay just because you want to consider what other information they are receiving from you. First think about what aspects/ lessons/ attitudes do you bring from this experience TO Rice? That's the clincher for this essay. I would say that is most important...is it about how sports forges friendships, allows for camaraderie...do you see yourself playing pick up soccer on [name a field or open area at Rice] etc. Hope this helps.

For the 3rd essay, I talked about how I immigrated to the U.S from a foreign country in Asia. My story was about how my parent’s financial struggles forced me to think that I had to completely assimilate into American culture in order for me to overcome adversity. Towards the end, I talk about how I came to the realization that assimilation would not change who I truly am (Asian), and decided to embrace my original culture while adopting some traits from the American culture. For my conclusion, I talked about what I would contribute to the rice community such as being part of a diversity and inclusion organization which would allow me to help students struggling with discrimination. At the very end, I said that I want to use my experiences dealing with an identity crisis to help other students to feel accepted for who they are. My main concern is that this essay has nothing to do with what I did for the community, but has some elements of what I want to accomplish through the experiences I gained. Any advice? Thank you.

Sounds really great and personal...could you add that in a way your negotiation and balance of culture helped your family think about how to celebrate both cultural traditions...and in so doing you helped your intimate family community? I talk about baseball in my community essay because similar to learning Jiu Jitsu, I learned baseball at a summer camp and later ended up teaching the youngest campers what I learned. I’m thinking about posting a photo of me pitching (in a different league) for the Box, because it shows dedication to the sport, community, leadership (pitchers are often times leaders on the baseball field). I think it’s a good idea, would you agree?

I’m planning on double majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and Neuroscience and perhaps a minor in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. I was wondering if it was okay to write about fairytales and talk about the fact that the female protagonists in these stories reflect mental health disorders and even biological elements behind these tales. I wanted to explain how these stories prompted my curiosity in the world of English as well as Science and how I want to explore more with the classes, research, etc. offered at Rice. Does that connect all of my reasons for the academic areas that I am applying to? I am kinda confused on how to connect English, Neuroscience and Biochemistry and Cell Biology together.

This sounds super interesting but I would keep it focused. Maybe start by describing just one fairytale in story form then go into explaining the curiosity and connection. They are super different fields but don’t worry too much with overly connecting them. You bring them together. Good luck!

Hi Tony, so you can do either academically related or a hobby just make sure you have been dedicating extra curricular time to it...so not in a classroom. For example an academic activity can be a stem club and you compete in a local engineering competition or a hobby can be photography. Both would work but I would say consider all they are getting and don’t repeat from the common app so they get new info.
@WriteYourAcceptance
@WriteYourAcceptance 3 жыл бұрын
@@tonypham9365 so this prompt is definitely academically related and having to do with the major potentially you declare so if it is engineering the stem club I mention in the first reply would work but the photography would not. Then the last 150 words on this one would bring in some of their school specific details so like an engineering course and a professor or a research opportunity. Good luck!

@@WriteYourAcceptance Just write straightforwardly, if you go on KZbin and watch college essay videos a lot of them try to be intellectual and creative and the essays end up being less about yourself and more about how well you can write. At least for Rice, they are more interested in who you are rather than how well you can write. Essentially cut the BS and use every available word in your word count on yourself instead of wasting words.
