This is mislabeled. This TedTalk has literally nothing to do with writing to an audience.

It’s everything to do with writing for an audience. Children writing on blogs where people across the world can read what they are writing, comment and engage in a safe way. What we’ve found is an extra level of motivation not seen when you ask children to write in their book when only their teacher will read it.
