In the yard were chickens and rabbits. Together they had 45 heads and 110 legs. How many chickens and how many rabbits was in the yard?
@DrNic5 жыл бұрын
10 rabbits and 35 chickens. (if all chickens then there would be 90 legs. There are 20 spare legs, so there must be ten rabbits.)
@alfredtubale7904 жыл бұрын
@@masonlory3565 this can be represented with two equations. both have 1 head (H)...chicken has 2 legs (L) and rabbit has 4..equations are chicken (H) + rabbit (H) = 45 AND chicken (L) + rabbit(L) = 110... then substitute corresponding values for legs and heads.. so you come up with chicken + rabbit = 45 AND 2chicken + 4rabbits=110... solve the equation and you'll get rabbit=10 and chicken = 35.

Is putting an "other" option in my closed question make it an open question?
@DrNic3 жыл бұрын
No. Many closed questions need an “other” option as you might not think of all alternatives. You could put an open question after, saying please specify. I did this in a survey about fast food and found I’d left out pizza as an alternative.

Hello! Great video! Two quick questions for you, if you don't mind. My research question is: "What community programs would be most beneficial to male adolescents between the ages of 11 and 17 who are experiencing adolescent dating violence (including physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, as well as stalking behaviors) in Orange County, California?" .... I am (hypothetically) planning to ask the opinions of men ages 25 to 35 who have experienced such dating abuse in their adolescent years. I am having difficulty coming up with ideas on what variables should be measured and am wondering if you might have any suggestions to get me going on the right path? Second question, is it OK to mix a bunch of types of questions on the questionnaire...much like the last cartoon example displayed in your video? Thank you!
@DrNic2 жыл бұрын
This sounds like a sensitive study. Do make sure you get ethics approval. It is good to provide a variety of question types. Look at what other research has been done in this area of study and see what questions they used.

Would it not be better, instead of saying regularly, sometimes, or never, as those can be subjective and mean different things to different people, to say "daily, weekly, monthly"? Or at least say "regularly (daily), sometimes (weekly or monthly), and then include rarely (yearly) and never? I thought that quantifying the choices, in this case in terms of time, would be clearer to people rather than regular/sometimes/rarely/never.
@DrNic2 жыл бұрын
There is a case for both, depending on what you are referring to. The problem with daily and weekly is that it is unclear where you would put two times a week and similar. You could ask how many times a week or similar. Sometimes what you want to know is person's subjective feeling about how frequent something is.

Can we use 3 variables of our research in a single survey questionnaire.. Please guide .

@@DrNic if we have to find a correlation between 3 variables in our research, then is it effective or appropriate to use all of 3 variables in a single questionnaire to measure rather than making separate questionnaire for each?
@DrNic4 жыл бұрын
You MUST use the same questionnaire to find if there is a correlation between variables if each observation is a person. For correlation you need to have the score for each variable over the same person. I suggest you watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/novbn62co9lorJo to get an idea of what an observation is.

Hi Dr Nic, I am PhD candidate, currently i am designing my questionnaire which is about "Deception in Websites Design and Textual content", normally because of deception all the questionnaire statements are negative, and i have heard that negative statement will effect the validity and reliability, what i should do, what do you think of mixing of positive and negative statement?.
@DrNic4 жыл бұрын
My personal experience is that negative statements are really difficult for people to understand, and mixing them is even worse. If at all possible make the statements positive. Can you give me an example of a question?
