Yeah, I noticed that too. The man just broke down grounded theory and framework analysis in about 30 seconds. One of glaring weaknesses of qualitative researchers is that they overcomplicate things, and resort to a set of terms that is often burdensome.

This is a really great video explaining how coding works! What I liked most about this video is it promoted their app but did not deprive the audiences of the options in which they could do their own coding. Kudos to the host too! He looks like a toned-down version of Doug DeMuro. Peace!

Agreed on how great this video is. They did a great job in not only demonstrating in words how to code but how to do it visually by showing the cut outs of parts of the interview text and physically placing them in envelopes. Another org might have done an animation of that, but the fact that someone took the time to print out text, cut it up, and then also use paper envelopes showed quite a good level of detail and care.

Good question! Will depend on your data sources, analytical approach and research question. And you might end up using more than one type of coding, and that's fine!
@vincentmusolino32574 жыл бұрын
@@Quirkos I see, that's interesting. I come from physics where the method usually imposes itself from the contraints of the project or the school of the thought of the professor :-) My project will be semi-directive interviews + free form questionnaire answers; how should I use the differents ways of analyzing the data in Quirkos? If I understand the software correctly, we have 1) Memos 2) Quirks 3) Groups of Quirks 4) Levels. Let's say I use invivo coding and GTM higher-level categorizations. How should I use Quirkos properly then? I am open to a private conversation about that, if your time permits.

Thank you very much sir. Now I understand what a code is. However, I still don't know how to distinguish it from themes
@Quirkos4 жыл бұрын
The term can change depending on which approach you are using. However, generally a code is a simple concept, and a theme is a more complex theoretical concept, sometimes attained by combining several codes together. As a crude example, codes for 'Sweets' and 'Chips' might suggest a later theme called 'Unhealthy food'
