Writing text on an oscilloscope with Max for Live

Simple 12-character text input to draw letters with a stereo audio signal on an oscilloscope in XY-mode.
Example: O = sin(t), cos(t)
Can't save text and gets confused with 12-digit numbers that contain 0, but that's ok, because it can also smile.

That's great, as always. Love playing all your stuff directly onto a scope, it's great fun. Only problem I have is that when I play through my laptop the image is upside down, whereas when I play from my phone it is upright. I use the same BNC to phono to 3.5mm aux setup and swapping the signals simply rotates it, as you would imagine. I will need to get thinking...

Maybe I did something wrong maybe I didn't. It worked before though, but that was before routing it into a speaker. It was an old scope, so I fear a dried out cap might have taken it's last breath. Weird thing was that it still showed the signal though. Turned it off right away to avoid further damage of course.

amazing. are the images produced by the audible sound or are there frequency's that we can't hear which make some of the image?

They are produced by the audible sound. The signal that goes into the oscilloscope is exactly the same that goes to the speakers.

This always seems to work on traditional Analoge scopes. Not so well on DSO's though it helps with averaging turned on at a low setting.

This exact question brought me to this video - so I figured I'd circle back incase you were still trying to figure it out. I use Ableton and the solve was to insert a utility and reverse the polarity of only the left channel. In the XY display, the X channel was my left output and the Y-channel was the right, so it may be reversed for you. If you're not using ableton, I'd say find a plugin or insert in your DAW that lets you reverse the channels polarities individually. Or send the inputs through separate channels and reverse the polarity of which ever one is sending the signal to the x-axis. Hope this helps!

You could make it white noise by phase modulating it with white noise after the tone generation, and it should look the same. But I'm sure you already know that ;)

Yeah, I know ;) Ableton's Erosion effect does pretty much that. It can also use sines for modulation, which gives the line a nice "electric" look.
