Productive procrastination isn't so weird. It's how my apartment gets cleaned (when I should be writing as well). 😄 Congrats on grad school and way to go on finishing Act 2!

as someone who has been writing Carolina Reaper levels of spice (ha, fanfic writer here) for well over a decade, my advice on the spicy thing, esp if you're uncomfortable with it, is rather than focusing on the.... vocabulary (is that the right word in this case? lol) of certain acts and parts, focus a lot more on the emotional and physical REACTION, like what's happening on the inside rather than the outside (pulse, breathing, heat building, the way the characters look at each other, etc)--and short is fine in both cases. It doesn't need to be super long or super descriptive, esp if that's not something you're comfortable with. i will say it DOES take practice to figure out what works best in a spicy scene, esp a short one. In moments like those, time can be sort of wonky almost--slow down and quicken up all at the same time, so it can be fun to incorporate that sort of feeling into the writing of it. idk if this advice helps, but I hope it gives you some ideas at least!

Also I am dead at you saying you’re still allergic to saying the names of parts of things hahaha I feel like I would feel the same way. I related to so much in this video, I also have an attractive antagonist and I’m very conflicted about it lmao. I feel like it’s fine as long as you’re not romanticizing the questionable things he does??? Idk I’m questioning this too lol. I love that you’re going to be doing this series regularly, looking forward to future episodes!!! rooting u on🫶🏼✨

Oof, I definitely understand what you mean about "productive procrastination." I have that problem so bad, and in some ways I feel like it's worse than being someone who just blows things off, because procrastination that you can justify is probably the most dangerous type there is. I found your thoughts about the divide between being a writer and a content creator very interesting. I feel like these days, the lines between career paths are getting blurred, even in the traditional market, and it can feel weird to find your place in it all. Especially when it comes to something like writing, which is a career path that (can be) quite "prestigious," and content creation which I think has an association with selling out (?) and being kind of fake. (Not my thoughts, mind you.) But much like how there's different types of writers, there are different types of content creators, and I'm glad that you're finding that balance.

I've been reading writing tutorials for many years, now, and I remember how in 2015-ish many author bloggers would recommend beginner writers they'd start their own writing blogs, for personal branding. After sometime, someone I can't recall who now, said smth that stuck with me: having an author blog will only work if you like _writing for blogs,_ cause it takes time away from creative writing and it may not work out for you well in the marketing department, anyway. It's similar to what you discussed in the outro. I'm glad you love creating content for KZbin, too, cause otherwise it'd be deeply exhausting and frustrating for you, indeed 🥺 I have a personal blog, and I know it takes time away from my fic and original projects creative writing, but I consider it "writing time", too, without feeling (too) guilty about not writing stories because blogging is also a type of writing I love. I don't see it as just a marketing technique. If anything, it deters me from properly marketing myself because it's more texts of mine for ppl to Not read 🤣 But I'm okay with that. Writing makes me happy, and that's what matters; blog writing or not. Happy creating, Lynn!!! ❤

I think a good spicy scene fits the characters, the story, and the author. The scene should be something that is natural to the characters. I don't enjoy forced spicy activities on characters where it feels unnatural to them, like including BDSM where there was no hint of it before. It should be natural to the story. By this, I mean that the scene should be a natural progression to the story and not just thrown in for shock or awe. In essence, I'm not a fan of spice for the sake of spice. Finally, it should be natural to the author. I've read quite a few books where it seemed like the author had never had spicy times because the scene itself, the dialogue within the scene, and the emotions (or lack there of) evoked do not seem like something the author is comfortable with. I don't mind fade to black or stories that have little to no spice, as long as it's true to the story and the characters and the author. I don't know if any of that makes sense.

Make him hot, but never refer to his looks after the first appearance. The reader will know that he is attractive, but if you don’t refer to that too often afterwards, it won’t be a huge part of how we view him. (The antagonist)
@sabiha.sayeed10 ай бұрын
I think it's a great opportunity to find a way to make your antagonist charming and attractive without making him physically attractive. Maybe he looks like the average guy, but he has discovered how to create a persona that people would gravitate towards despite that.

My literary experience with smut scenes is mainly in the fanfiction setting, so I don't know if this'll serve you, but I'll try. At the end of the day, the scene should fit the themes you're working with and the overall atmosphere of your book; not all smut scenes will, or should be, overly/somewhat romantic cause not all stories will benefit from it 🤔 I would argue shorter scenes are better when it's part of a book (and not, say, a PWP short story/oneshot fanfic), and smut scenes that speaks/relates to the main story, instead of being an extra inside the book, are ALWAYS better (my 100% right opinion that's evidence based!!!) 🕊✨️ That being said, it's been a hot minute since you've published this so I'm sure you've already found the answer to your hot writing pleas 🤣
