THE CLARIFICATION NEEDED AT THE BEGINNING 😭😭😭
@tessaclairmont95105 ай бұрын
The starting and stopping projects thing is so relatable. I've started and shelved 5-6 projects/ideas in the past month because they either got too big, needed too many fixes to make them work, or I felt like I couldn't do them justice yet with where my writing skill is.

8:40 You could try looking into how religions are generally built with a mass appeal (public aspect) and an initiate side to them (secret/mystery/mystic aspect)

A Crimson Peak-style gothic thriller with renaissance politics? To my complete lack of surprise, you have me hooked. Religions typically begin as niche and esoteric ... and then they gain power and the problems happen. For worldbuilding, I wouldn't worry about the religion itself having logic, as long as you give logic to the progression of society's treatment of it. That was a nice garden you found. Sorry you had to cross paths with a rabbit though. At least there was some distance and at least it chose the opposite direction. Any time a rabbit comes at me, I run like hell.

As someone who is currently working on a dual-POV project, I do not blame you one bit for dropping that idea. In many ways,. writing like that can feel like such a masochistic venture. But I'd argue that I'm a bit of a masochistic writer myself, so perhaps writing in such a way is the only way that I can feel fulfillment as a writer (cries.)_ Although, there is a part of me that wonders if writing your story with one, singular POV might actually be the harder option in the long run. Since you did mention that you want things to get super complicated with the politics and have everyone's lives fall apart by the end, having those extra perspectives can add to that effect. And, at least for television anyway, that does seem to be the norm. Of course, novels are a completely different medium in that regard.
@lynndjung5 ай бұрын
that's what I keep going back and forth on as well! tbh for this story I feel like I'm better off narrowing the scope and focusing the personal impacts of the greater world conflict if that makes sense? As well as their individual roles. I'm really interested in the concept of one person's choices having ripple effects throughout society that they don't feel or notice immediately. but yeah there's a lot to consider! ty for the thoughtful comment and for watching!

Taking an outline and drafting it without knowing what will work and what won't is always scary. Lowkey, i think that's why I prefer fast drafting. I would rather be editing or outlining than drafting lol. But also, its a lot easier to look at a 3rd draft and go "i think it's pretty good" then to look at a first draft and go "i think this is pretty good" cuz then its like what am I missing? What problem have I not noticed yet? (Even if i outlined it for months) Finding problems while doing a first draft is comforting, in a weird way.

Might be too late for you to see this, but i feel like religion (in less scientific cultures) spreads by authority. Christianity started to really spread around, after some roman emperor decided it’s the state religion. So maybe your religion benefits those in power. And therefore they become members and those not in power follow their leaders. This isn’t some criticism on religion or christianity (i’m christian myself), but i feel like that is how religions spread during history

How do you manage to combine work life and writing time? I've been wanting to start school again, but I'm worried that the combination of working a full-time job and starting school would take away from me being able to write.
@lynndjung4 ай бұрын
To be honest, finding time to write with my school workload is REALLY difficult for me right now, which is also why I've been uploading less. Caveat: I have the immense privilege of not having to work a traditional job because my KZbin income and my savings from prior jobs keep me afloat. On top of that, in a few months I'll be living with family and will likely not be expected to pay rent, just other basic expenses. This support gives me more room to write. However, I've had to work full-time/multiple part-time jobs while in school before and I had to satisfy myself with writing maybe 1-2x a week (on weekends) or less. I spent 4.5 years in undergrad and wrote maybe... 1.5 books in that time? But it is okay to take a break from writing if other life things come up! It will always be there for you when you return to it. Right now I'm viewing school as a transitional state; I need to put in this time to get into the career I want, and then once I have that job I can write more consistently again. I hope this helps!

Bro. For four years I’ve felt bad ab my female mc not being as developed/interesting/deep as male mc. Like. It’s better now. But I low key was ashamed. But listening to this, I can just see it was…an underdeveloped character?? It’s nothing deeper than that. And some of the side characters, one presently, I’m still trying to get a feel for. So yeah.
