Not nearly as easy mode as you might think, back in those days investigators were the best of the best, they were relentless and they could get away with almost anything. It's much harder to be a detective now and many people get the job who would've never even been considered in the past, specifically because now it's a much easier job. Compare a 2023 detective to a ranger of the wild west, those guys hunted people through the whole united states for years with a horse, a gun and a knife, tracking people down with no issue for hundreds of miles. Things are always somewhat balanced, even now it's far easier to get away with things in the court of law, in the past you wouldn't even see a court, you'd just be taken off the map

Well, he certainly is competent and ruthless. He rehearsed that whole entry in his own room before he went and killed those three cartel goons. He timed his door opening and switching on the light, and went about checking the thickness of the wooden walls for bullet penetration. And made note of possible hiding spots in the bathroom and closet. That and the cartel goons probably had no idea that someone like Chigurh was coming for them.
@DAV1979
@DAV1979 Жыл бұрын
Your average armed goon/criminal, while still dangerous and not to be underestimated, rarely has any training or familiarity with their gun. You see a lot of spray and pray tactics and criminals with goofy tactics like having drum mags in their Glocks. Anton wasn't invincible or a super killer, but he had discipline, ruthlessness and enough preparedness and training to easily overcome whatever incompetent opposition he was likely to encounter.
@squamish4244

The killer always has an advantage because they know they are going to kill. A second of hesitation, or a momentary thought to verify a threat is all that it takes against someone who is prepared to kill and has made a plan to kill. Anton is smart enough to only engage when he has the upper hand, and smart enough to have a plan. We see in this movie that as soon as he loses the advantage he runs. So no... he isn't super human. But he is prepared to win every time.

I really like this scene, because TO ME it explains the *SPOILER ALERT* almost abrupt, anti-climatic ending of Moss being murdered by the cartel. It shows the Cartel were one step ahead of Anton since they are already at the motel where Moss was hiding the money, meaning they somehow tracked him faster than Anton did. You also get a cool glimpse of how methodical Anton is before this scene happens where you see him checking out the empty hotel room and how thick the walls are so, which is why he knew prefiring at the bathroom would be effective. Just my own take on this cool scene.

@ShaggyRogers1
@ShaggyRogers1 Жыл бұрын
@@DILLIGAF785643 Yeah, the cartel members in this scene tracked the money using the same signal that Anton does. This scene just highlights the difference in approach between the two. The cartel members are rash and careless, while Anton is patient and scouts everything before making his move. Anton's preparation to scope out everything before making his move is how he discovers the cartel members before they have a chance to notice him in turn. One of the repeating themes in the movie is the mirror between Moss and Anton, where they are both observant and plan before making their moves. Anton's frustration with Moss being on the same level of planning and prep is what eventually leads to Anton getting anxious and making mistakes. Anton views everyone else as being on the same level as farm animals waiting for their fates, and he starts making dumb decisions in an attempt to take it out on the random people around him.

Fun fact about the books: Anton, like most of the other MC’s is a veteran. He was I forget either an army or a marine sniper. Both in the books and the movies he has a general aversion to getting blood on himself. Hence the closing the curtain with the bathtub guy then checking his shoes at the end and kind of wiping it clean. He enjoys the killing, but doesn’t enjoy the messiness of it. Being a sniper is the best of both worlds. Get to kill people, but you never really have to worry about getting blood and guts on you.

A lot of this movie's action sequences make more sense when you assume everyone who isn't Chigurrah is constantly startled/panicking. He's the only one who enters the fight with a calm head and a plan. Dude in the toilet probably didn't really process why his buddy yelled out from the bedroom, until he saw Chigurrah. By then, Anton was already ready to shoot. Also since there were two men in the bathroom with no reason to hide there, they were probably taking drugs in there together. Very dulled by the time they heard screams.

Having read the book and listened to the audio book (highly recommended..!!) there are quite a few differences that are in the film but not in the book.. The dog that chases Moss in to the river, the accountant in the office who asks " Are you going to shoot me?" are just a couple of examples. Also when Moss rings Wells and Anton answers, in the book Moss says "i think i got the wrong number" but in the film he asks "is Carson there?" and Anton answers " Not in the sense you mean" Clearly the Coen Brothers have added a few nice touches but both book and film are on another level..i also love the part where Moss picks up the young girl hitch hiker, the dialogue between them is fantastic

@goodnightvienna8511
@goodnightvienna8511 Жыл бұрын
Yes , however it’s now generally acknowledged that Blood Meridian is unworkable a film. Too much , just a biblical descent into The Rings of Hell as Judge Holden as Virgil. It would just get so many people from so many angles angry etc even before you try to work out how to portray the violence because that’s what makes up most of the interaction in the novel . Sure, someone might give it a go but I’d be very wary of any modern adaptation of what is meant to be a period novel in its grammatical sense and just sheer body mutilation .
@eurekasevenwave2297
@eurekasevenwave2297 10 ай бұрын
@@goodnightvienna8511 I dunno honestly, horror movies have a pretty large following and those can get naturally extremely graphic (even bordering on cartoonish levels of violence and gore in some cases), which obviously Blood Meridian is not, but I do think you could adapt it to film and keep the violence grounded just fine. The problem is that you couldn't really mince any of the scenes so you'd have to either split the movie up or just make it a TV series adaptation. Something that's kinda floated around in my head for it, and it's more tongue in cheek in nature, is having an adaptation in the style of an mid 80's cartoon a-la GI Joe but keep all the dialogue and gore intact. I feel like that would be an amusing but very fitting take for the story in a strange way. Maybe I'm just kooky though.
