I always rate Brody for standing tall and taking it on the chin like a man. He could have argued and fought back and told the lady exactly who is to blame for the kids death and who overruled him judgement call to close the beach that could have saved her boy. Instead, he knew it would do no good and provide no crumb of comfort to that poor lady grieving and that's something that this current generation could learn from. The blame game doesn't do anything in the end but rob the person at fault, the opportunity to seek out and attain redemption. Brody did this by channeling his hate for the shark into sheer grit and determination to making sure that thing was killed.

But if Ellen Brody told her to apologize for slapping her husband over something that's not his fault because he's not the Mayor and in charge of Amity Island,would that woman get very violent at Ellen Brody and tell her that she won't believe her?

Brody is wrong. Of course, the mayor is really wrong. It is his idiotic greed even in the face of a nightmare killer lurking in the water there. Yet, Brody had a new job as the chief. Understandably, he felt he did not know the ropes how to deal with everything in a beach town well, yet. But he should have closed the beach. Of course. Most every single sheriff would. Whoever has the call to close the beach and sees a chewed up dead body on the surf and doesn't close the beach is very wrong until the shark is found or clearance after days is granted. Brody absolutely is very wrong, IMO. That girl was eaten alive causing her horrible, painful, horrifying death. And he agreed to keep the beaches open for people to swim in the ocean. I think it is unrealistic. What sherriff, what mayor would really do this? Great, great movie. Yet, I can't imagine a town on the shore ever not closing the beaches after a death in the water from a shark attack. No swimming there for a few days at least or until the shark is located and killed. And they have to notify the swimmers that a person was killed by a shark in this water. You can't just let it be like nothing happen. Not the first few days, definitely not. I don't even know if this is legal not to notify swimmers a person was killed by a shark. The mayor and sheriff would be ina lot of trouble, legally, I think. They did not even post signs on the beach or anything about the shark attack. They close their eyes pretending maybe a boat did it. In the middle of the night not far at all from the beach, in the ocean, a motor boat is out there in the dark of night. Yeah sure. They know that is a lie.

Chief Brody has a good heart as a cop protecting this city he will try everything in his power to protect the people until he brings the great white shark down. Obviously the mayor is wrong And Chief Brody is right accepting the great white shark is still out here Rogue.

If you’ve lived near the beach you’d know they rarely ever come close to beaches. It’s extremely rare to spot one. And when they are seen, they don’t usually attack anyone because they come out mostly at dawn and dusk, when no one’s in the water. Even at day they’re more curious than vicious. But if there is a shark sighting, it’s the responsibility of lifeguards or cops to tell all beachgoers. So this is a silly comment
@kgunitkeese174 жыл бұрын
neonnights They didn’t really show them having any lifeguards on high podiums to keep a lookout. So almost everyone on the island is at fault for that. Even though it’s incredibly rare for a shark to come to Amity Island, they should still always be vigilant because sharks can be very unpredictable when it comes to travelling the ocean. Sharks will always find places in the ocean or food is plentiful and they’ll prefer to stay in that area until the season changes. They will come again every season of that time.

neonnights .....late reply but im from miami fl and yes i do/have visited the beach often. Anyone who goes to the beach should know there is a risk of being attacked . Especially if you are swimming far enough where your feet cant touch the sand. We’ve had incidents where small sharks bit off child’s arm. There is no amount of police awareness that will make a change, everyone neutraly agrees that the beach is the ocean and there is responsiblity to yourself to take caution. Its like duh at this point, like you dont need cops to tell you watchout for muggers at a bad neighborhood , you should know shit Like this will happen.

Poor lady. I don't blame her. And how could he say she's wrong? That beach should have been closed when they found out about the shark.
@texasrockshillcountry65746 жыл бұрын
Beckster but mayor vaughn wouldn't do it. He threatened to fire the Chief if he didn't capitulate to his order. All these "heros" brag how they would have gone against the mayor. Yeah, and they would have just been fired and the beaches would have been open anyways. Nice try keyboard "heros"!

How better Jaws 4 would have been if instead of Sean dying, it was just Mayor Vaghn getting killed ass first by the shark. Like literally, he turns his back and the shark just jumps up, bites onto him by the ass and pulls him in. Rest of the movie would've still been boring garbage but at least I'd have that to watch repeatedly and Chief Brody's words would have come full circle
@coryames11706 жыл бұрын
Eternantium funny thing is I read that Roy Scheider was offered the chance to return for Part 4 and if he did HE would've been killed by the shark in the beginning instead of Sean. Would've made sense because of the "Revenge" plot but still would've been a slap to the face (no pun intended due to this clip) to his character.

"My boy is dead. I wanted you to know that." - I love this line because it's irrational, of course Brody knows, but since people don't speak perfect soliloquies in real life, particularly during grief, it makes the emotion feel all that more real.
@MA-dh4bk3 жыл бұрын
the mayor was a coward for not taking the wrongfully aimed slap..poor Brody now has to deal with shame and guilt of something out of his control.

This is how Captain America: Civil War should've ended. TONY STARK: Steve Rogers? ROGERS: Yes? TONY STARK(after punching him in the face): I just found out that Bucky Barnes killed my parents ...And you KNEW!! You knew and you still didn't tell me. Still, my parents are dead now and you and Bucky are still alive and well. I just thought you should know that.

These old films had amazing directors and crew... No unnecessary use of background music when the mother arrives. Her mourning dialogue and Brodys regretful posture gave a sense of hopelessness in this scene. Internally Brody wanted to tell her that it wasn't her fault. But couldn't do it as the mothers grieve had more reason for him to accept this unnecessary guilt to give her closure.

I think Brody saying to the Mayor at the end of this scene “No She’s Not” was in his own way saying back to the Mayor No It’s You Who Is Wrong, Not Her! If you had let me close the beaches in the first place her son may still be alive kind of thing.
@80steen442 жыл бұрын
Nah, he's owning it. He know the Mayor is someone admitting that it was him (the mayor) who is to blame0 but Brody isn't even gonna let the mayor share the blame because Brody knows he could have done it anyway.

Lee Fierro, ( Mrs. Kintner, ) recalled having to slap Scheider 17 times. During a break, Dreyfuss went and sat beside her, saying she was doing an incredible job. They used the next take. A moving scene.
