@@yellowfolderif the first shot goes through, not everyone can just up and defend themselves after getting hit. Especially with a hard metal object. Why do you think sucker punches are so effective? This is the romanticization they are talking about “oh yeah I’d take a metal bar to the head but I would totally fight them off” yeah sure bud. The guy in the scene was cocky and full of himself, never thought that another person would see violence as the first and only answer the way he does. That’s what bullies and bad people rely on, they rely on the victims and others to be better than them.
@yellowfolder3 ай бұрын
@@Tobeh I'll grant you the first hit - I wasn't referring to that. After he starts getting struck, he makes no bodily movement, no bringing arms to cover face, no defensive posturing whatsoever. He just lines his head up and takes it. Most of us have seen enough violence on CCTV or wherever to know this isn't a realistic depiction of someone taking a beatdown. It's cinematic, yes, but all but the first strike are comic-book-like.

@listerone It's also one of my favourite films. I really think Scorsese should have left the genre alone after this, because this was the definitive gangster movie for me. The Irishman was really disappointing by comparison. I assume when you say you've visited the location, you only mean Henry and Karen's house. I was wondering if there was a real functioning phone booth in the location from which she calls Henry, because the one in that scene looks a bit flimsy (although not as flimsy as the one at which Jimmy later receives the news of Tommy's murder! :D )

VeRnSquad5611 naw Scorsese’s earlier work was a too new wave for my taste, but when “the end” came out in 90 I think he really came in his own, commercially and artistically. The whole movie has a crisp clear writing and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the scene a big boost! He’s been compared to Francis Ford Coppola but i think Scorsese has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
