These lights were originally made by the Western Railroad Supply Company (WRRS) who later became Federal Signal Corporation (FS) then Western Cullen Hayes. They were used on new installations in Australia right into the 1990's so I'm guessing production stopped around that time.
I'm not sure which lights were made by which company, although I suspect the ones with the number 1585 cast into the top were made by WRRS. Other versions have the number M17768 stamped into the top of the housing, while others have no numbering at all.
The older lenses have WRRSCO written on one side and 1575-11P on the opposite side, with the newer looking lenses just having the number M150-11309.

Good video Michael. :) Man I miss those old style lanterns when the crossing gates NSW wide were all wishbone style. good memories indeed.

Love it! Shame it’s only now equipped on two crossings.

Victoria used these exact gate lights until the early 1970s, when they switched to the current "under the gate" arrangement for wooden gates. The latest install I found with these sort of gate lights was Blackburn Road, which received boom barriers in December 1970.

I like the Artcraft gate lights but think it’s a bad idea mounting them on the underside of the gate, see plenty of them broken and hanging by the wires because a vehicle hit them. Would make more sense having them mounted on the top side of the gate, less chance of being hit.

@@McKHAust I don't know if it's just me, but I don't think the Artcraft lights look right on top of a gate. Then again, I'm so used to seeing them on the underside of the gate.
