I have been here all my life and not gonna get on Lanier. I can swim pretty good too. My Daddy and his friends told many stories about when they were building the Buford Dam and flooding the valley and such. When I was a kid I remember a boating accident that took the lives of several people and they could not find a couple of the bodies for 3weeks. You got to be careful in a man made lake. That lake is too big too deep and way too cold. Imagine running 50 mph in a boat and hitting the top of one of those trees. Or swimming along and getting tangled up in wire or something. Just be aware of the surroundings y'all. Lanier has claimed too many. God bless.

It's not the ocean...typically you should have no problems in a damn lake besides MAYBE try to stay away from animals. It may be haunted but in general a lake shouldn't be so difficult.

Lake Lanier was built over multiple black towns. It has been tested and confirmed to be the most polluted body of water in Georgia. The debris from buildings and trees were never cleared. Leaving the top of trees sticking out as hazzards, and chemicals from lead paint and rusting metal debris leaking into the water. There have been 700 deaths. To add to this reservior's horrifying nature, there are 20 cemetaries. Most of the bodies where not relocated because people where forced out of their homes with violence to make way for it. So on top of all the other polutants I've mentioned you can add embalming fluids and rotting corpses to the list. The history alone should be enough to make nobody of sane mind want to be there. This reservior has killed hundreds of people and is terribly polluted on top of that. Nobody should be complaining about this.
