My review of the Dell P4317Q. I look at the "form and function" of the large format panel, it's PBP/PIP features, Spyder 5 analysis, and whether I was hit by issues plaguing early adopters. Does the P4317Q justify it's $1000 price tag?
Note: There were a few points where I got some numbers wrong in the voiceover script. This is either because I made a error when writing, or I ran multiple tests with the Sypder and was looking at different sets of results. Sorry for any confusion.

Arriving late to the party. Terrific review. Also wanted to mention the HP z43, which appears to be very similar if not the same monitor. HDMI 2, USB C, Three hundred bucks less. Wondering if, at the end of the day, these aren't all exactly the same panels, with just different processors from different vendors. LG, Acer, HP, Dell all make monitors with suspiciously similar specs. all are priced about the same, except Dell, of course.

Thanks for the review, I almost pressed the Dell P4317Q order button, but am glad I took the time to watch your review. I need screens to sit side by side for comparative analysis diagnostics, so have been looking for a monitor that allows multiple screens open without having two to four laptops open at the same time. The LG I will review and fingers crossed will be the more affordable option. Thanks gain.

Very glad to hear that from both of you. Pulled the trigger on mine via NewEgg while I was out on vacation. Will be delivered on Monday. Let me know if there are any big pros or cons you think I should cover. Saw conflicting details on whether the LG had FreeSync. The original press releases said it did. But, the LG website doesn't mention it. Saw one comment that FreeSync was USA only. Can you confirm?

Actually looking forward to a review of that particular monitor. Its pretty niche at the moment so I'm glad someone is finally going to have a comprehensive review of it. Still hoping the LG isn't using the same panel the Phillips 43 incher was using (reported burn-ins). Subbed.

Yeah but you don’t get the ppi that you’d get on this 4K panel. What good is a big monitor if the text isn’t super sharp and crisp. That’s what makes retinas so awesome, and give them that “wow” factor.

I got mine for $80AUD. And I plan to use it exclusively for audio production, running Cubase Pro. It's replacing a three monitor setup with a 32" curved ultrawide and 2 X 27". My obstacle is the desk my DAW is on. It has a hutch with two shelves and this thing is way too big to fit in the space available. New desk time.

WSGF...now that's a name i haven't heard in a few years! thank you for being the only one doing a proper review on this monitor..i already have one on the way If I want to have 2 inputs and want to create multiple 'pictures' with in one of those inputs and display everything at once...would Dell's software support that? Is it safe to assume LG's version and Dell both uses the same panel supplied from LG? Or does the addition of HDMI2 and FreeSync suggest otherwise?
@WSGF
@WSGF 7 жыл бұрын
Glad we could be helpful! Trying to get back into doing KZbin videos, and doing hardware reviews. With two inputs you could do a PIP setup. Within both of those inputs (assuming they are both connected to PCs) you could run the DDM software (see my other video for details on that) to arrange content as you like. If you're looking to do these arrangements with the PBP options, you could do the same with the two vertical column arrangement. If you want to use any of the other arrangements, you'd need 3/4 inputs and use AMD Eyefinity or NVIDIA Surround to create horizontal rows. I believe the Dell is the same panel as the LG. I don't think there is anyone else making a 43" 4k panel with BRG sub-pixel layout. In my research, I found that both the Dell and LG used the BRG sub-pixel. The additional connections and FreeSync are implemented separately from the panel itself (via the controller, I believe).

The LG is garbage. My 10 y old 30" Apple Cinema Display is way way sharper and has a more consistent quality to the image. The LG was soft, the edges are blurry, and if you play games on it they can be VERY choppy to the point of making some unplayable. I returned it. If the Dell is worst, forget 43' for now.

@WSGF
@WSGF 7 жыл бұрын
I'm really liking the 43" 4k UHD more than the Dell U3415W (which I used for years). You've got more pixels for productivity, and with the new "multi-client" options for the multiple sources PBP, I can keep work, home and gaming machines up at the same time. I can then game either in 4k, double-wide (2x1080p) or ultra wide (using a custom res). Considering I also only lightly game (based on time), this form factor is the perfect marriage of features for me. There are some things I'd change on the LG 43 - but maybe in the next model.

Hi, thanks for this review. Is it possible to use single DisplayPort or USB-C cable and have 4 separate PBP displays. In theory it should be possible to support, as DisplayPort allows daisy chaining, so the electronics could represent 4 displays as daisychained to one another. Unfortunately I could find no information confirming or denying it.
@WSGF
@WSGF 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the positive feedback. That won't work in this instance. The monitor is mapping the actual electrical signal from each input, and there's no way to remap that. For four screen PBP, you'd need four different input feeds.

It's a good monitor. There were just a few things that tipped the scales for me on the LG. But if the HDMI version isn't a big deal, then $200 is a steal. I'd be happy to get one at that price and add it to my Dell 49" super-wide. Glad this review helped.

Great review and to the point. Thank you for that. Much appreciated. Please let us know how the LG 43UD79 works out for you. My order has been in my Amazon cart for about 2wks now. Havent had the cojones yet to click checkout yet. I currently have the ASUS PA328Q. Its nice but definately not worth ~$1000. I could use the extra vertical real estate with the 43" but the increased horizontal screen may be an issue. Reading info on either end of the screen is a bit of an issue with my current 32" ASUS and I noticed I tend to not put text heavy docs there. I think what would be ideal is a 16:9 43" curved similar to what Phillips tried with the 40" or perhaps a 3:2 43".
@WSGF
@WSGF 7 жыл бұрын
I do think that a curved panel would be a good option here for productivity and gaming users. Media professionals might have issues with the curve on a screen of this size. I've heard concerns of straight lines looking curved at larger form factors. I'd hope/expect that a 2nd gen of the LG panel would be curved and have FreeSync 2.

Saif Bukhari The U4320Q looks to be a good upgrade, and honestly what the P4317Q should have been. The IPS is a nice upgrade. The USB-C input and 60Hz HDMI are a must and should have been there before. I’d miss the built-in speakers. I realize they aren’t great, but usually suffice for KZbin videos or work-related stuff. Theirs a reason theirs no HDMI 2.1 monitors out ATM, because nothing has that particular output type untill really recently. hdmi 2.0 cant support the bandwidth needed for 4k 60hz or above, also display port 1.4a can, but if you want anything higher then 60hz 4k you need two display port cables.
@WSGF
@WSGF 6 жыл бұрын
HDMI 2.0 absolutely has the bandwidth for 4k60. That requires 12.54 Gbit/s, and HDMI 2.0 has 14.4 GBit/s of bandwidth. Refresh higher than that need two cables or HDM 2.1. Xbox One X and PS4 Pro support 4k60 over HDMI 2.0 into HDTVs. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Version_comparison

I would like to know if this is a good KVM able monitor. If i have two monitors (yes even with one of this size i need two, in fact three) the monitor must maintain the signal when switching to a different video signal port. Otherwise the operating system detects a monitor change and rearrange your windows. This sucks terrible when you work a lot. Unforunately you can't switch auto monitor detection off anymore, not on Windows, not on MacOS and at least not on Linux Ubuntu. Totally sucks this we simplify it and throw power users over board.

WSGF if we talk about the balance function (home and small office, graphic design most for Adobe Illustrator, video & photo editing and also not a hardcore gaming) can you share the rank between P4317Q, U4919DW and U3818Dw based on your experience please (try to exclude the market price) thanks a lot before
@WSGF
@WSGF 5 жыл бұрын
I haven't used the U3818DW, but given it and the U4919DW are both part of the Ultrasharp line, they should have similar color performance. They are both rated at 99% sRGB and 350 nits and 1000:1 contrast. The U4919DW has 1.2M more pixels. And the double 16:9 aspect makes it more useful for PbP, and will be more immersive in gaming. The U4919DW also has more inputs, input types and USB-C. However, the 1600 vert on the U3818DW may preferable for some users re: productivity. And the 21:9 aspect is going to have better support in games. The smaller pixel count will also be easier to drive with your GPU. Both will be much better over the P4317Q. I'm not a fan of 4k gaming. I'd rather have a wider aspect than more pixels. And I personally find myself "feeling" constrained on a 16:9 aspect. With 21:9 and 32:9 you can work on a 16:9 canvas and still have room for tools and pallets. Also, I don't recommend the P4317Q. I doesn't have support for HDMI 2.0, so its 4k is limited to 30Hz over HDMI. If you want a 43" 4k I recommend the LG 43UD79. It's what I've been using, and I'm about to swap it for the U4919DW. My recommendation would be U41919DW > U3818DW > LG 43UD79 > P4317Q.

@WSGF What does it mean, when using HDMI input only with one source, when you say 60HZ (DisplayPort inputs only)
@WSGF
@WSGF 4 жыл бұрын
Hz is a measure of frequency. In this instance it's the refresh rate of the monitor. A 60Hz monitor can update the screen image 60 times per second. If it's 30Hz, then it can only update it 30 times per second. If a game is running at 60fps on your computer or console, but plugged into a 30Hz display, it will look slow and choppy as the monitor can't keep up with the signal. Specifically here the HDMI ports don't support 4k60Hz, so a PS4 or XB1 wouldn't display 4k at the full 60fps.
@TheunisCilliers
@TheunisCilliers 4 жыл бұрын
@@WSGF Thank you for taking the time to answer. So for a programmer using a single input using HDMI for screen real estate (multiple code windows and logs), I'd get the 4K but at a bit lower than 60fps? And would that be straining on the eye? I understand it might be okay, given that I don't game?
@WSGF
@WSGF 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheunisCilliers It would be straining on the eye, and also make mouse movements half as fast as what you are use to, and jumpy. The LG 43UD79 is cheaper than this model, has the 4k60Hz and other features. There are other displays available with 4k60 over HDMI 2.0.

is it true the current 43" 4K monitor panels (LG, Acer, Dell, Philips, ViewSonic) currently suffers from one common issue. That be the edge of the display screen casting a shadow from a close viewing angle (2 ft)?

Yes. This is true. I've experienced this with both the Dell and the LG. I would assume the other two have the issue as well.

@Optimistas777
@Optimistas777 4 жыл бұрын
@@wallmachine8780 you can get the measurement from displaywars.com, they give you measurement without bezel. For, gaming the size of the screen is quite cool for casual gaming, fills entire field of view, vertical and horizontal if sitting closer, and also comfortable when sitting further away. I wouldn't choose the size for competitive gaming, though, 27 144hz is better. Also, if you have weaker pc, screen tearing is likely (if you have vsync off, haven't tried it yet). There is a Predator screen 43" 144hz VA panel which is geared towards gamers, this Dell IPS is more for productivity

You can do the ultra wide scaling on all panels - but some panels have better scaling than others. It comes down to the implementation by the manufacturer. I could get the Dell to scale properly in a 2D game like Pillars of Eternity, but it wouldn't scale Witcher 3 properly. It stretched the 21:9 image vertically to fill the 16:9 aspect. You might also be able to rely on your GPU. I can't remember if I was using the Radeon Fury or the NVIDIA 1080. The LG scales all 3D games properly with the NVIDIA 1080.

Doug, two pages are just waste for such monitor. I regularly work with EIGHT Word / PDF pages displayed ABSOLUTELY COMFORTABLY on 39.5" screen. There is no single doubt they will fit EASILY on 43" monitors - well, just take the size of A4 format, compare to screen size of 43" :) check these imageshost.eu/images/2017/12/20/IMG_20171220_084237.jpg (once again, this is "just" 39.5" Seiki) and imageshost.eu/images/2017/12/20/IMG_20170523_142906.jpg To illustrate, 25" 2560x1440 is somehow small for my eyes and I would definitely NOT want to work with text size like that all day ; but those eight pages on 40" monitor are easy all-day-long. Cheers !

Thanks, game looks awesome as your vids! ;) As for now, I'd only consider 16:9 for TV or console gaming. But for PC - it's hard to switch back from 21:9.

@WSGF 7 жыл бұрын
And with the custom resolutions, I can play in 38" 21:9 @ 3840x1600. And I still get the 4k and PBP for productivity and multi-client productivity. While the Dell wasn't a good value. I really like the LG 43UD79 I've just gotten. In my mind it's the best of both worlds (21:9 & multi-mon).
@TeeKayDodo
@TeeKayDodo 7 жыл бұрын
The custom resolution looks still enjoyable with the GW2 example. But I'd rather maxed out the 4K resolution if I'd have a 4K monitor because I wouldn't stand the black bars (especially with movies) which was one of the main reasons why I came in touch with UW-Monitors. If it has to be all in one, the best of both worlds in my opinion would be the 3x1 setup you showed with the Flexispot sit-stand-desk (I prefer sit only =), where you have both 16:9 and 21:9 in its native format. For me, a triple-mon setup with a UW in the middle would be enough for productivity and PC-Gaming. And for the couch, a really big (55+") 4K-TV. Indeed, the LG seems to offer more for a lesser price. Personally, I started with an LG 29" UW-/FHD-monitor and wanted to switch to a bigger Dell 27" 1440p-/16:9 but it was so underwhelming that I had to switch to a LG 34" UWQHD, which is my main display now. ^_^

@WSGF 7 жыл бұрын
Not going to "fault" or disagree with you on your preferences. This is the joy of the PC - we can all do what we want, and customize to our liking. I did triple-wide for a long time, and then tried the 29" ultra wide. It was cool, but I still saw value in multi-non vs. 29" ultra wide. But, when I went to 34" ultra wide this was the "holy grail". If I had one machine, and/or mostly gamed - I'd probably be on a 34" ultra wide, or more probably a 38" ultra wide. But, seeing as how most of my time is spent in "productivity" mode, and I constantly split time between my personal MacBook Pro (email, chat, video editing, productivity, etc.) my day-job PC, and my gaming PC - the multi-client aspect of the large format 4k PBP works best for my "daily driving". For gaming, I prefer the ultra wide aspect over the 4k res. I don't think the black bars will be an issue for me. Bezels in multi-monitor seemed to disappear for me over time. And I expect the black bars to do the same. But again. Because we are PC gaming we can each choose the setup we prefer, and use that.
