If they are registered in the US, they have to have a majority of US citizens. The citizens do not want to work that hard. They tried doing that from San Diego to Hawaii. The crew quit and they had to cancel the idea.

Despite the methods of how cruise lines work, this specific video is talking about the PORT and how it functions in that locations economy. A lot of people just went straight to the cruise lines... regardless, the cruise/travel/hospitality is the largest affected industry globally including all other business and industries that rely on that sector.

Some crews on ships were literally trapped due to quarantines, ports they were at, their own nationality, and the flags the ships fly under. Cruise ships weren’t helping ppl get home and some committed suicide. A bad industry overall. Yet people are compelled to buy cheap cruises.

@@paillette2010 the blood is on the hands of the people from CDC because THEY didn't allow cruise companies to send their crew members through American airports. I've never seen so many uneducated comments on one thread, This port directly employs over 250 people which has been dramatically cut. Beyond that you have local vendors, porters, security guards, stores, and the other necessities, All of which do not work for the cruise companies. These are American jobs lost without the cruise business, and families suffering. It makes me sick to see people say things like "just move" or "just find another job." when these people have build careers out here.
@scruffyman51593 жыл бұрын
Nice try, but nope....these ports are owned by the corporations. They have so much money, paying a years salary for 250 staff is not even a piffle to them.....but do they offer pay a reduced wage till the the pandemic is done. Remember, they have Trillions upon trillions of dollars, mind boggling amounts of it......and making more every day...see it what it is. And no, i'm not a socialist, i'm a democratic capitalist, but we the voter have allowed corporations to get out of hand.
@FRISKYxDINGOxx3 жыл бұрын
Port Canaveral is state run port that falls inline with port jax, we accommodate these corporations that own the cruise companies cause they give us money to provide service. Not a hard concept to understand. We do not have trillions and our financials are public record. You can literally see them and get an update on them at every commission meeting.

If a company during good times spent their profits on share buybacks, they shouldn't have been bailed out, they should've been nationalized or try to raise money like Boeing did with their massive debtload. These airlines made flying so much more uncomfortable with their tight seating. They pad their profits for sharebuyback. Now they got bailouts. They better make their seats wider.
@GotKimchi3 жыл бұрын
can you point to us how many of the cruise industry did stock buybacks? oh wait, you can't, because they didn't, that was the airline industry, not cruises edit: I am wrong, Cruise companies did do stock buybacks, but not at the level of the airlines, and they were smart and kept cash reserves
@Pyrrhic.3 жыл бұрын
@@GotKimchi you are right, they didn’t do stock buybacks at the level of airlines. But I was speaking in general, not only airlines. But cruises aren’t registered in the US, hence they never asked for a bailout given the blow back they would get. Also cruise companies did buy back stock, except because of the nature of their business, they had a huge cash reserve, unlike airlines. But yes I see you point
@GotKimchi3 жыл бұрын
@@Pyrrhic. Yeah, you right. They did do buybacks, just not at the level of airlines. I only checked in the past year, my mistake. on the bright side, they also didn't funnel all their profits too. So while they did do buybacks, they also were smart and kept cash reserves too. And your right, the whole buyback thing shouldn't be allowed, and if they did, should block them from receiving any bailouts.

Geez, after watching Wendover's video on this subject, you can see that the WSJ didn't do much research. At least they included a bit on the ports, which is what their title states it is about. No idea, aside from theatrics, why they'd mention the foreign cruise lines didn't receive US money. IIRC, the cruise lines didn't even ask the US for money (they did do some private funding, though). Cruise lines are good for a while. We just need to stop treating this virus as the boogeyman.
Half as interesting did a more comprehensive video
