You can read the prospectus and see that you're not actually buying gold, you're investing in exposure to the gold price. Alexandra Larkin really did justice in the explanation of the sudden liquidity crunch that led to FTX collapse. Though, it is stale news that Idle money gets killed due to inflation. I'm in a privileged position to be able to save almost 65% of our net household income, as I placed it on safer investments. The key for us was not spending beyond our means. If you invest and have other sources of income outside of dividends then you will be able to live off dividends. Got north of $520K in my portfolio as I bought a lot of dividend stocks before, I'm buying more now, and I will buy more when it drops further.

The biggest issue is that most people are only interested in football, basketball, music, etc. They view taking on credit card debt, which will cost them 20% annually, as usual, but they view investing their money, which may yield a monthly return of 10% or more, as hazardous. I agree with you about derivatives....however they are widely used. How many pensions and insurance companies are invested in CLOs? All of them. Even GLD and SLV are derivatives...and are actually a great analogy to buying crypto on an exchange. If you purchase shares of GLD you don't actually own any gold...just as if you purchase btc on an exchange, you don't actually own any btc.

Ya, just think of what it's like to be "SBF" now. He's 30 years old. He was worth $16b at the start of a week, and penniless at the end. Now h's in court facing prison time for a kind of fraud that happens ALL THE TIME these days due to lack of oversight. His life is probably done at this point. Even if he never got locked up, who's going to trust him? He will never be a CFO. He will never be a respected financial expert. H won't be trusted with investor money as a CEO. I could not disagree more. Regulations are not the answer. We would never have seen significant issues over the decades in traditional banking, investments, and finance if it were. Opacity and agreed-upon standards for the entire crypto world is a potential solutions. In order for crypto to remain a successful decentralized entity, it will require adoption of verifiable audit measures thus establishing trust with its customer base.
