Putin probably might invade Belarus if it collapses. They’ll probably scapegoat the invasion by claiming it was in danger from being occupied by Ukraine. Then he’ll point at the agreement to eventually create a union state as legitimate claims to Belarus. If need be, he’d probably do a “Stab in the back” myth to justify an invasion of Belarus, while pretending they’re all Russians (under Putin’s umbrella) with no difference, and Belarus is a Soviet invention

A year ago the Russians used Belarus as launchpad for a surprise attack on Ukraine. A few months later, the Russians were beaten so badly at the Battle of Kyiv that they had to run back to Belarus to escape the Ukrainians. It really isn't smart for Lukashenko to invade Ukraine with his army. Maybe Putin does not give him a choice.

depends what sort of Russian tanks they have to field... and if the Ukraine can use the western tanks effectively... look what the damage a few Tigers did to Shermans.. the difference is the "Shermans" of Russia are now vintage tanks and getting older and more clapped out, and they have no way to replace them... also.. as each Russia tank gets blown up, that is 4 more Russians dead.. they do not have an inexhaustible supply of men for their military.. I know which tank I would rather be sitting in. Morale cannot be discounted either.. if you know you have an overwhelming superior vehicle, you tend to feel a lot better than the other guy...

The Russian army is stretched and Lukashenko has limited support in the Belarusian population, so it seems unlikely that Putin or Lukashenko would want to open a new front - they do however want to tie up as many Ukrainians as possible, hence the saber-rattling.

Nope, Russian propaganda supported anti-Luka protests of 2020 to scare him and "persuade" to help. Unfortunately, Russian propaganda machine is quite strong and too many in Belarus are affected by it. Russia helped the protests to grow to unprecedented size, then provided their riot police as "help" to Lukashenko. And then they tortured some of those clueless enough to believe in feasibility of peaceful protests against Russia-sponsored dictator.

The threat of Belarus attacking Ukraine is downright silly, as these troops would likely defect or run away immediately and if coerced by Russia to fight, attack Russians instead. It is wrong for Ukraine to not attack Belarus(military targets only), as Lukashenko's regime can not add any further military strength to Russian side but can instead just crumble and leave Russians without support.

@@5r3t5n0m Well, Belarus is weak and many of our "democratic" neighbors (including even Ukraine) prefer the "stability" of Lukashenko's regime over uncertainty that would result from a revolt. They are not helping much, while Lukashenko can always call Putin and then pay for the the help by selling the country piece by piece to Russian companies. Hopefully this will change after Ukraine is victorious. Otherwise, we are doomed. Many just moving to Poland or Lithuania these days, seeking safety.
