My friend's mother, a librarian, Hungarian, told me about how in 1956 the librarians 'stole' all the best books after the ruski tanks started rolling in Budapest. The staff hid the books at home. "Nancy, you do not KNOW the Russians," she would say. And yes, most of the books were returned after it was safe. When I asked she said indignantly, "We ARE librarians!"

Exactly right. The moment I saw the Ukrainians en masse ready to face russian forces with homemade molotov cocktails and small arms in a massive grass roots resistance, I said russia will make an enemy for generations. I couldn't see how it would change the hearts of the populace even with a successful invasion. Even Nato neighbors with missiles are more predictable than an entire nation of citizens filled with hate.

Empires never understand this. Even the British still don't understand the Irish. But Russia might be the worst of all, although there are some contenders. It is because in the country itself the atrocities are not taught but only a myth of their national glory. Germany might be the only country that has come to terms with its imperialist past. Russia is still creating new traumas.

As the USSR collapsed there was a drive to modernize the old 'Red Army'. It was to be streamlined more in the manner of Western Armies (French, British, US, etc.), Large sums were spent to move from quantity to quality in effect. It now appears these sums of cash simply ended up in the pockets of contractors with no improvement in Russian forces ( a complete waste of cash). This is now apparent in the performance of the Russian army with poorly maintained vehicles, rations out of date. ineffective officer core, etc., etc,....much to the advantage of the Ukraine!

They soon will feel the pain X10. A 31 Abrams 88 Leopard I's, 36 Leopard II's & 13 Challenger 2's. The systems on these different tanks work with their same makes like Abrams M1A2's & Leopard 2's Which allows other tanks to fire at what another can see without much effort. I hope we get some F-16's we have hundreds that we put remote control systems in & let fighter pilots shoot down for practice. It's strictly political on that one. I say we build a F-16 factory in Keiv just to give Putler the middle finger!!

Just great reporting. Makes us witness to the actual destruction of an entire peoples’ culture. The language would go next, as it is being expunged among children kidnapped and taken to Russia. An abhorrent, inhuman behavior.

The Russians did not 'flee' from Kherson - they evacuated over 60,000 civilians and withdrew across the river. Ukraine 'liberated' a city that was mostly abandoned and undefended. The Russians then began shelling the Ukraine army from a distance beyond the range of Ukrainian weapons. It was a trap, and the Ukrainians walked right in to it
@specialingu

ukraine have same/longer range weapons. just the russians have a city to idly shelll because thats what there skill set is. grads arent long range, and they arent really acurate.
