The Women's Super League (WSL) experienced the highest increase in internet search among global sports leagues and competitions in 2023, according to Redtorch's SportOnSearch report. The WSL saw a 258% increase in search, followed by Major League Soccer (MLS) with an 87% increase. The UEFA Women's Champions League and the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) also featured in the top 10, with increases of 70% and 50% respectively. The rise in search for the WSL coincided with the record-breaking 2023 Women's World Cup, which attracted 1.9 million match-going fans and 14.8 million viewers for the final in the UK. The report analyzed Google trends data and compared it to the previous four-year average for each sport's search topic. The increased interest in the WSL is attributed to the World Cup's impact, as well as growing media coverage, visibility, and investment in women's football. The report also noted that six of the top 10 sports with the highest search increase were women's leagues and competitions, indicating a broader trend of increased interest in women's sport.
