So bittersweet to see this. Always great to see this era of White Sox baseball, and to hear Harry and Jimmy. But, it really makes me miss watching Sox games with my dad. By the way, growing up in NW Indiana, I could only dream of watching a game on Channel 44 with this much clarity!!! I really wish there were complete games from the Dick Allen-Bill Melton-Carlos May years. Those teams (and my dad) made me a Sox fan for life.

What a great upload! Just as I remember watching Sox games as a kid on 44 (Sadly this was their last season airing them). No, they don't make em like Harry any more and it was pretty cool to watch him do this broadcast from the bleachers. So much memories...the old ballpark, seeing the vintage uniforms of both teams and of course the players...especially the interview at the end with the recently departed Farmio (Ed Farmer). Oh and can't forget about the nostalgic ads...hearing that Rusty Jones one was a memory jogger. And then the classic 44 promos...especially with the squared "fireworks" logo...yes!!!! Thanks to whoever donated this! A retrospective game (too bad the Sox lost) and also a fine continuation of your other video posted with the footage of the Cowens fight from the day before...interesting take on it with Sparky in the beginning.

Thanks for these videos of classic full baseball games, they are wonderful reminders of great times, and leaving the local commercials in sets the time perfectly for us. I'm not from Chicago ( L.A. Dodgers guy since early 1970's ) or particularly a White Sox or Tigers fan ,although i remember the players , i'm mainly a fan of baseball, so watching this sort of makes me feel like i'm just watching the game on tv at a friends house in Chicago in 1980, it's kinda' surreal and great, cuz' i don't know anyone in Chicago. The broadcast is not much different than the Dodger games on KTTV ch.11 in the 70's & 80's , the same type of production, and feel to it. I grew up hearing Vin Scully, Ross Porter, & Jerry Doggett so that is what baseball sounded like for me growing up. But it's really cool to see & hear what it was like elsewhere, and sort of get the feeling how it might have been growing up hearing Harry Carey, Jimmy Piersoll ,Joe McConnell, or Cub games w/ Jack Brickhouse, it is just awesome. Please show as much of this as you can , it's the best. Thanx, again , Bob.G

I loved Harry Carey when he was the announcer for the Cubs. There will never be another like him. It's too bad that he and other legends over the years didn't live to see either the White Sox or the Cubs become World Series champions again in 2005 and 2016. Watching this definitely takes me back to all those years of watching Harry announcing for the Cubs alongside my now-deceased father. It may be the Sox instead of the Cubs here, but it's still very much the same Harry. Also, apparently that McDonald's beefsteak sandwich didn't last very long, I've never heard of it. McDonalds wiki says it was taken off the menu in the 80s.

It's crazy how much the White Sox games in this era felt like Cubs games at Wrigley. It had that same aura of young people having fun in the crowd like the world's biggest outdoor bar. That’s why he was so entertaining. I remember he botched a score to a Yankee-Sox game. It didn’t take a rocket science to figure out the man loved his beer and and the game. Like one person said, Harry wouldn’t survive PC culture today....

And may I add that in the seventh inning of the game as shown in 1980, the year Ronald Reagan would beat Jimmy Carter for the President's job (it was also the hostage year for 52), Harry Carry almost took his shirt off as he sang (he was under the menorah)!

Why not add the White Sox-Royals game--TV or radio--from August 8, 1976 when the White Sox wore shorts that day (in the first of two games played)? Chicago would win 5 to 2.
