I mean, I don't see how this isn't as much of a sport as archery and the rest. I imagine it takes amazing amounts of training and rapid mental calculations to figure out exactly how to move your body in accordance to the shape of the stone, the water, etc. Pretty cool, hope they keep this up!

It does take quite a lot of training but there aren’t really any mental calculations, it’s just muscle memory , I recently learned how to throw two stones at once that curve in opposite ways, But there still aren’t that many calculations that I’m doing, it’s more just that you need an understanding of how rock skipping works

I had to Google this, but maybe this will help others watching this for whatever reason: Skimming stones must be no more than 3 inches in diameter and formed naturally of Easdale slate To qualify, the stone must hit the water 3 times and sink within the designated lane as marked by the buoys Skims are judged on the distance thrown rather than the number of bounces Competitors hitting the back wall are entered into a ‘Three Stone Toss-Off’ which is judged by the cumulative distance of their three tie-break throws. The judges’ decision is final

About the size of the palm of your hand with some good bumps to get your fingers around to make it spin, I find around 8 mm thickness is best

I kinda wondered what I was about to watch with Toss Off in the title - was half way thru watching it when I wondered why the hell I was here and how did I find this vid??? I still don't know! At a guess they are counting distance traveled rather than skips. If anyone can shed some light on why this is a thing for grown men to do I would LOVE to hear about it... I mean now that I have wasted my time watching this I might as well know! Is it some kind of right of passage? Is there a Trophy awarded? Throw them higher not lower and they are supposed to be at a 20 degrease to the water so it can make a ramp in the water so the rock can skip
