30 years later: Lucasville, Ohio, prison riot

Nine inmates and Corrections Officer Bob Vallandingham died in that 11-day siege that began on an Easter Sunday, leaving a community and a state prison system forever scarred.

I was not at work that day but Mr Tate was a good Warden who believed “Maximum Security” meant it.

Afterwards the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation sent these inmates to the Madison correctional institution in London Ohio. This prison was still being operated as a medium security but was classified as a reception center to avoid lawsuits from the city of London. The city had only agreed that it would only house lower security inmates. Instead they moved in minimum to maximum security sex offenders, juvenile offenders and the Aryan Brotherhood from Southern Ohio maximum security prison. Again, sex offenders, juveniles and the Aryan Brotherhood? What was they thinking. Soon Afterwards in 1996 these Aryans killed a juvenile and forced another young man who was only 18 at the time to go with them. One dead and another still doing life. They have covered this up long enough. ODRC needs to be held accountable.

When you house humans as animals, overcrowded as this was, something like this was bound to happen. Those on death row were mostly scapegoats as well.
