Giorgi’s speed around the court is IMPRESSIVE. Watching her this week was incredible!
@888drpepper3 жыл бұрын
As strong as her ground-strokes are, her court speed is just as impressive. It makes it very difficult to hit winners against her and it also helps her return of serve. Her court speed is right there with Halep and Gauff. Because of her style of play, she was always an unforced error machine that kept her from reaching the top. Lately, she has dramatically improved and doesn't seem to be going for winners on every shot. When everything is clicking, she can play with anyone.

She hits like Andre Agassi at his prime. Such clean strokes from both wings. Such quick take-back, torso coiling and then uncoiling. She likely hits the ball harder than any male or female player if you account for her body mass. And poise and modesty on court. I've waiting for 10 years to see her win a major tournament. So delighted for her.
@DiscountBrainSurgery3 жыл бұрын
@@Cla_Disney Yes, in her past losses, she succumbed to errors and poor shot selection. Often, she'd hit a hard shot right into her opponents strike zone which enabled her opponent to simply redirect her power back to the open court on her side. If she developed a slice backhand and a patient game such as Angelique Kerber's game, Camila would contest the top 10 in WTA.

That was one of the most impressive displays of sustained ladies tennis I have seen in a long time. I have followed Camila for years, and have always thought that she had all the talent needed to win big tourneys -- quickness, excellent serve, potent forehand -- but she always inexplicably fell short, even losing in early rounds fairly often. Two years ago, I saw her lose to Pegula in the DC CitiOpen final in disappointing straight sets. Overall, she could never find consistency. Or maybe lacked strategy. This time around, she dropped only one set in the entire tourney (to Pegula), maintained her poise, and allowed her talents to shine through. She beat tough, seasoned players too, plus the up-and-coming youngster Gauff. I am so happy for Camila. What a triumph for her, professionally and, I would guess, personally. Brava, Giorgi!!

So great to see Giorgi finally win a huge tourney and delight us with an uncharacteristic but endearing and beautiful smile. She had the most deceptive ranking in the WTA before this sitting at 71 in the world and we all know she could be a top 10 caliber player with consistency like this. She's always had the talent and endurance. She looked like a world #1 out there this week and you definitely can't take any credit from her with the players she took out. Kvitova, Mertens, Gauff, Pegula, and Pliskova. All top 30 killers. I think not having her crazy father being a nuisance courtside is actually helping her as well. Great to see that he's polishing her game to be competitive enough to hang with and beat the top players. But you could always tell she was tense when he was on the sidelines. Without him being courtside, she seems much more calm and controlled whereas before she was always anxious and rushing. She should be ranked in the mid 30's with this title win now and I'm excited to see how much of a challenge she poses at the U.S. Open this year. Nobody is going to want Giorgi in the draw if she keeps playing like this. She's becoming as dangerous as we knew she always was.

@@ExternalInputs Yes -- that's why her success rate is low. But, then, that's why it is very very entertaining (definitely to me) to watch her. Same with Ostapenko. Same w/ Roger. Roger's success rate is lower than Novak for the same reason. I believe mental toughness comes later. Roger can't stop from being aggressive. If he had 2-handed BH, he would've always aggressively on BH side also and without slicing. As we know, it is so tough to consistently play aggressive game on BH size, due to power issues.
