Hello chessfriends and welcome to the season 17 of the TCEC. The tournament starts with a Qualification League where all newcomers will be featured, including new AB engines and Neural Networks. The best engines of the Qualification League will promote to League 2 and then to the League 1 and finally, the best placed 2 engines from League 1 will qualify for the Premier Division. The best two engines of the Premier division will play then in the superfinal. It's interesting that Leela did not respect any of the principles teach to beginners: no castling, did not develop the pieces ( queen side was underdeloped); sacrificed way to many paws, at the king side, living him unprotected. Some people saw other insane violation of basic theory.

Hi, thank you for the video and the analysis, but maybe it will be good to mention what opening book were given to the engines and when they start to play on their own. For this game specifically they were given 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e6 6. g4 h6 7. h4 e5 8. Nf5 Nc6

@@Jozarovschesschannel so basically all moves in green (when you browse the game from tcec-chess.com) are given to the engines (there is also no Evaluation/Depth/Speed/.. etc data for these moves, it only says book).

I'm pretty sure the first 8 moves are the book given not the choice of the engines. So criticising Stoofvlees for e5 Is silly because it's just the book move it had no choice.

Hi, I do not know, if you mentioned it, but until move 8. ...Nc6, these move where book moves given by TCEC, so no choice for the engines or neural network respectively. Furthermore, this setup is more a Sveshnikov Sicilian, not a Najdorf, because the pawn is not on a6 and normally, you do not play e5 in Najdorf, except in the line which is called English attack where white plays Be3. Thank you for the great content.

I think stoofvles went for that variation because black ends up with an attacking position for a rook. Possibly black was winning a lot during self-play because of mutual blunders

There is a new hardware, more powerful, for both NN and AB engines. Leela gets stronger with more nodes than other engines. So, if you increase x100 the nodes for Leela and for other engine, she will benefit. Right now, she is at the same level, or slighly superior, to A0. At the superfinal, if she qualifies, she will be more powerful than A0, with longer time controls.

Problem with nn engines is that they dont use tablebase like ab engines. So there is always chance for them to make blunders that are leading to complete loss. Stockfish can also make mistakes that lead to a loss, but not imediate loss but overtime by opponent improving on that mistake. However eith nn they do every now and then those kind of blunders that makes them lose badly. Ofc those mistakes become much lesser when the nets are training. Stoofvlees is very strong engine, but it still needs much more training to not make those misstakes. Lc0 still does similiar blunders, but far lesser than it was doing year ago.

Is a flaw in the programming, of course exists millions of flaws in the programming of these engines, the matter is that only arises in few games, but if the chess engines play hundreds of millions of games we will have a full library of stupid mistakes by chess engines
@dannygjk
@dannygjk 4 жыл бұрын
No, if an engine misses a crucial line it is not a 'flaw in the programming'. Every engine can miss a crucial line. They have to choose which lines to look at. They can't always see all the bad lines because there are too many lines. The programming alone is not everything that is used for engine decisions. The programming code is only half of the engine decision making. The combination in this game is so deep and complex the engine might miss a crucial line.
@vladiracer
@vladiracer 4 жыл бұрын
Partly agree, but if an engine cant see a line then must make a choice, in fact the engines cant see all the lines, have a limit, when make a mistake is not blindness is a flaw, this is the job of the programmer, make these flaws less notorius
@dannygjk

I’ve learned that in chess it’s rare for things to be simple, yet in your analysis you said “simply” fifteen times! (3:16 5:21 5:26 7:41 8:10 8:22 8:41 8:51 9:02 9:06 10:25 10:50 10:56 11:45 13:01)

I think there are some moves we can call simple if you apply the main principles in chess. This tactical level is of course not possible for a human to reach, but still i try to explain the main principles even in this top engine leve. Maybe my bad English makes me to repeat a word many times. I hope that you still enjoyed the game

@@abraham8104 According to wiki: Leela Chess Zero (abbreviated as LCZero, lc0) is a free, open-source, and neural network-based chess engine and distributed computing project. Development has been spearheaded by programmer Gary Linscott, who is also a developer for the Stockfish chess engine. Leela Chess Zero was adapted from the Leela Zero Go engine,[1] which in turn was based on Google's AlphaGo Zero project,[2] also to verify the methods in the AlphaZero paper as applied to the game of chess.
