Keep in mind that Garfield is 6 feet tall, but Doss in real life was 5 feet 8 inches & not as physically strong as Garfield, so knowing this makes the fact that over 2 days Doss saved over 75 lives even more impressive.

I’m a 6’2 former firefighter and special operations medic. I don’t mind saying there’s no way I could do what he did……his actions are beyond comprehension. Limp bodies are incredibly difficult to move especially by yourself and mind you this is something firefighters train for with life size dummies. How he did what he did in a war zone is beyond me.

I saw both this and Arrival on the same day back in 2016. Arrival in the morning, and Hacksaw Ridge at night. It was a good double feature that day

Mel Gibson's comeback movie was fantastic. Andrew Garfield gave great performance.

On record, Desmond Doss saved 75 lives. However, other sources claimed he did even more, which goes to show how humble he truly was. Even Hacksaw Ridge had to tone down some of his actual extraordinary accomplishments to maintain the suspension of disbelief.

1 of the greatest war films ever made. Mel Gibson is a f***ing genius!
@inigomontoya40322 күн бұрын
Desmond was a true hero. And saved more than 75. The story is far deeper than this single movie showed. But, it was a wonderful depiction of a legend.

I think it's better than Saving Private Ryan, which was marred by over melodramatic scenes and hammy dialogue/characters. Movies like 'Hacksaw' feel more real, like an authentic war movie.

I don’t think Mel Gibson gets his credit as a Director. He has always done solid films. Braveheart, Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto and Hacksaw Ridge all grossed over $100 million at the box office. Let’s see if Flight Risk lives upto his reputation in January 2025.

Its a great story but when it came to the battle scenes its like Mel Gibson was trying way too hard to be more intense than Saving private Ryan. Theres literally a shot of soldiers from both sides charging at each other as if it were a medieval battle.🤣

As intense at it is, it sure makes for a visual spectacle

As terrible a person as Gibson is, I'm honestly surprised he didn't get more offers of quality work after this. It's a terrific film, and Gibson should have focussed on his career behind the camera.
