They miss Eddie. Yes, guys like Joshua will sell to the casuals, but I learned about so many undercard fighters because of Eddie shouting their names from the rooftops. It's fine to have a promoter who isn't front and centre, but then the fighters need to have the personality to fill the void. Once Sky decide to have Okolie as their face of boxing, it was over from there 😂

The one NATURAL rivalry they had with Catterall vs Taylor they didn't bother to capitalise on it, now years later its reportedly happening. I'm so envious of my Dads time watching boxing, rivalries back then MADE the sport as well as the fighters themselves. He got to watch Ali, Frazier,Foreman,Holmes,Liston,Leonard,Hagler,Duran,Hearns,Eubank,Benn,Tyson,Holyfield ETC. All of those top guys had rivalries with each other and most importantly in a short space of time so people actually cared and remembered what they were fighting for. Just seems like now there's no point of watching or even caring about boxing nowadays.
@xFFSx10 ай бұрын
eddie actually promotes his fighters. look how many views his interviews get, compared to anyone else. he makes people want to watch the fights. he probably brings fighters an extra 10% just from talking. then there's the cards. none of these promoters really put on good undercards. matchroom fights you can watch good fights even on the undercards. all fans want are good fights. not just a half decent fight right at the end.
@colinwyatt-goodall463210 ай бұрын
I see the common denominator as sky. When eddie was at sky him and frank seemed to refuse to work together and there was almost no collaboration, but since he has left they have both seemed to be more willing to let their fighters go on the others shows and are now with that oily turkey money they are actually working together. Maybe it is sky and the way they work that is the problem here.
@98coxl10 ай бұрын
I'd love to agree with you, but the real common denominator is Saudi money
@colinwyatt-goodall463210 ай бұрын
@HellBlazerMNE07 i think you have misunderstood me. When i say the Turkey money i dont mean the country (which is actually spelled Turkiye) I'm just using the name oily turkey to refer to an actual group of Turkies from Saudi. They have gotten fed up with all the cock fighting over there and are now paying money double money to make humans fight for their entertainment.
@colinwyatt-goodall463210 ай бұрын
@HellBlazerMNE07 I do agree that the saudi money has been the biggest influence. Promoters are all looking to protect interests etc etc but you have to admit relations between eddie and frank started to thaw a little after eddie left sky, even before these turkies came to sheikh things up with their money. Im just saying this coupled with Shaloms sudden u-turn on wanting to work with others indicates taht sky seems to have a problem working with others.

Ben Shalom the face of sky boxing, I'm not sure he's the face of his own face
@officialfreddyfox10 ай бұрын
I blame boxers, not promoters. Today's boxers are too business minded, like most modern humans. The soul of a true fighter - or any true artist - is to put yourself on the line, regardless of perceived risks. Too often, they avoid that. Over time that dampens excitement, and only when boxers get tempted by the mega payday, do they finally agree to fight the right fight. Logically, only one or two promoters will benefit from that intermittent timing. I believe Ben's a good man who might ironically suffer because he cares more about boxing than money. He can pull it back though. In a related way, boxing was better with just a few organisations. Ideally, we'd merge the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO into one body. And even better, boxing would be better if it wasn't diluted over so many broadcasters. Watching fights on regular television channels was like watching a comedy or horror film in a packed cinema: full of atmosphere, and something that comes from knowing you're part of a shared experience. Boxing, tennis, F1, and snooker have all suffered from being on multiple channels. Thankfully, one channel is flying the flag of old fashioned sporting greatness. Propa Boxing.
