Mauricio Landos It’s really just a running gag on this channel, as it’s semi-satirical (spoiler alert). I like Stroll, but he’s not performing to a good enough degree by F1 standards and a lot of the F1 fan base despise him due to the pay driver stigma. I meet him here in New Zealand for the TRS. He’s definitely isn’t a bad driver, that’s for sure. But, he’s got a bit of work to do, qualifying-wise.

One of the worst in my view....was Gaston Mazzacane. He only got a drive with minardi in 2000 because he was sponsored by PSN which was some bank thing or something like that. He takes that sponsor money to Prost the next season and after 4 races is sacked because he was awful. At minardi Marc Gene had the beating of him but they were a back of the grid team. Prost in 2001 had a reasonably alright car and Jean alesi would destroy him

He is probably the worst of the current grid. Grosjean gives him a good run though and it was funny watching Palmer's recap of Germany watching Stroll take a corner then Bottas takes it and Bottas spins by being just a millimeter off. Really Stroll has circuits he's really good on, equal or in rare cases surpassing Checo, it's just that his flaws and weak moments REALLY stand out. In addition to the fact that there is no way in hell he'd even be in F1 if he didn't completely buy his way in. Pay driver is one thing and yes it's a rich man's sport right up to 'bloodlines' having of value. Still having your father OWN the team? That's a new level. So really people will find more reasons to hate him then he probably deserves. On the other hand, if Stroll didn't buy the team, Force India/Racing Point may not have been on the grid at all so... there's that.

Taki Inoue was incredibly unlucky. I mean, it would be a big moment in anyone's F1 career getting hit by the Safety Car. Inoue got hit by the Safety Car and run over by the medical car. Back in his early career in the British Formula Ford championship he came so close to scoring very good results, but just plain ran out of luck. He got taken out by other drivers, had bits fall off the car, and, once, he was leading a race by a country mile in the last few laps, and his gearbox broke. That's something that NEVER happened in Formula Ford cars. Whilst he was right, he wasn't good enough for F1, he earned better results in other series that he never got. As a famous driver once said: "I'd rather be lucky than good any day..." Taki wasn't lucky, but he certainly wasn't talent-free...

A few years ago, me and another two friends of mine were able to interview him, to "Motordrome", a website that no longer exists. What I fixed it on that interview was his first race, in Suzuka, where he told me that the rain wad so thick he couldn't see anything for a while. And they still raced! I can add another thing that Sospiri had over Taki. 1997, and Sospiri was on the front row of the grid for the Indianapolis 500. In his first year. In his first race in Indycar. He finished 17th, after a lot of car troubles, but that beats Taki by a long way in every way.

One of the challenges to Taki Inoue's self-depricatary claim to be the worst driver in F1 history, there are certainly a few challengers to that title, like Giovanna Amati for example. 3 entries with Brabham in 1992, 3 failures to qualify and was also slowest in all 3 attempts, by some margin. From Spain, she was replaced by a certain Damon Hill

Stroll's not that bad tbh. He at least won F3 (even though there's no real competitor there i think) but that itself shows that he can drive. Compared to now confirmed Latifi, who is on F2 for like 4/5 season.... And never got the championship even once.

Fun fact: Morbidelli spun and retired from the Japanese GP on lap one, but Murray Walker immediately assumed that it was Inoue who’d spun, and doubled down on that claim later-even though the TV graphics correctly identified the spun car as Morbidelli. Inoue finished the race! … he was the last finisher, two laps down. Frankly, it’s a miracle he didn’t spin off the way Hill and Coulthard did.

IMO one of the worst drivers in F1 would be Luca Badoer. Yes, it was heartbreaking when he broke down on the way to points at the 1999 European GP, but when he replaced Felipe Massa at Ferrari in 2009 after he had his severe accident in Hungary, he was in a race-winning car, let alone a competitive point-scoring car, did not score a single point and was at least 2 seconds slower than Raikkonen. He even has the most race starts without scoring a single point.
