Something almost no one mentions: Not only were no charges brought against Allen for child molestation, the state of New York later allowed he and Soon Yi to adopt two little girls. Presumably, they had a strict vetting process, but they didn't object. Both of the girls are adults now and seem to be well-adjusted. The Case of Woody is just not as cut and dry as people seem to think.

Actually, it is pretty cut and dry if you know the facts. The problem is that most people don’t bother to look into it very carefully. They and the media dismiss the extensive testimony given by Moses Farrow and Soon-Yi who defend Woody. Most prefer to believe the rich white members of the family who use their power to produce HBO hit pieces. The paradox is that social media has caused humanity to devolve, returning us to the medieval mass hysteria which elevates the ignorant as they get hard cursing and spitting at someone about whom they know nothing as he is tarred, feathered, and burned at the stake.

This video makes no mention of what Soon-Yi Previn (WA's wife and Dylan Farrow's sister) and Moses Farrow (Dylan's brother) have to say about Mia. About the abuse both suffered at Mia's hands while trapped in Mia's household. No mention whatsoever of what Moses has publicly said about Dylan's allegations: that she was coached and that her accusations are bogus. That the model train set Dylan mentions as having been in her line of sight as she was being "molested" was in another part of the house altogether and never in that attic crawl space. Whomever made this video did NOT do his homework.

In minute 17:30 you say that Woody Allen raised Soon Yi "since she was a child". It is not true. Allen did not raise or help to raise Soon Yi in any way. As juzge Wilk concluded Allen had no interest in the children of Previn and no involment with them. Until 1990 althougth Allen had little contact with any of the Previn children, he had the least to do with Soon Yi. She was not "basically" her stepdaughther, she was not at all.

It's hard to know if I'm being objective about his controversies, given my appreciation for his work as a writer, actor, and director. The controversies do run the gamut from eye brow raising (a relationship with a much younger woman), to shocking (a relationship with your ex-girlfriend's adoptive daughter), to horrifying if true (the allegations about abuse of his and his ex-girlfriend's adoptive daughter). An older man in a relationship with a much younger women seems so common place (especially in the past) that it's hard to feel even shock about it. In fact, Mia Farrow's own first marriage was to Frank Sinatra when she was 21 and he was in his 50s. Becoming involved with your ex's daughter is genuinely shocking, but, beyond the ick factor, Soon-Yi was 21, she and Allen got married, they raised two kids, and are still together 30 years later. The really damning allegation is the abuse. But, it's always been hard to know what to think. It was investigated and no charges were brought, but is this a case of a rich, famous man getting away with something? The abuse was alleged to have occurred after Allen's relationship with Soon-Yi was discovered, while Allen and Farrow were going through a divorce, and in the middle of a bitter battle over child custody. Does this timing support the allegation (because it seems to fit with other inappropriate behavior around the same time), or does it undercut the allegation (by suggesting possible reasons why it might not be true)? I don't know.

Huge age disparities in marriage age have never been common. Men tend to be a few years older than women. Where there are age disparities, you will find a wealthy or powerful man being the older party, and he's leveraging his wealth and power to get someone young. Powerful men are sleazy and self-indulgent. You shouldn't be ok with a famous wealthy man in his 50s using his wealth and fame to get a 21 year old wife instead of being a mature adult who pursues a relationship with someone his own age.

@davidranderson1
@davidranderson1 14 күн бұрын
It's not something I like or endorse. I said it "seems common place" (even if it's not) because there have been so many high profile examples (as a number, although perhaps not as a percentage) that it seems more "eyebrow raising" than "shocking."
@davidranderson1
@davidranderson1 14 күн бұрын
Yes, I referred to Farrow as Allen's ex-girlfriend, but then referred to their separation as a divorce. Whoops. But, I pointed out Allen and Soon Yi say their relationship began when she was 21. I didn't mention how old she was when they got married. She was 27.

I don't believe, just like the justice system, that Allen is guilty of of molestation. But come ON. He has no excuse for the circus sideshow that he created because he couldn't accept that sometimes you just can't have EVERYthing you want. Plus, he showed that he's every bit of "Hollywood" as anybody else who shows up for the Oscars.

Whenever the 'abuse' story about Woody Allen is discussed, equal time should be given to Mia Farrow's psycho behaviour. Creep? Possibly... pedo? Right? By that logic, we apparently can't enjoy or use anything, since pretty much every important thing has been done by someone bad or allegedly bad. Adidas and Puma were founded by literal Nazi's, and yet these high-and-mighty snowflakes still patron those companies. And so on. A pretty good video, I enjoyed it. A few inaccuracies, a few overstatements and false conclusions, but overall well done. There is no mistaking Woody's influence on the industry. Fitting you start with his film's defeat of "Star Wars". Though that film is often referenced for how it influenced the industry - mostly how it was copied - Woody's influence may be more profound, just less recognizable. His shadow stretches across every romantic comedy, urban comedy, even drama. I've recently heard stand-up comics blatantly stealing his jokes. Woody showed that comedies and rom/coms can be beautifully made. And that they don't have to whisk you to a romantic never-neverland, but can be relatable while being romantic and amusing.

Great video and great way to make a very awkward reality a little humorous. My take on Woody Allen, Amazing film maker, horrible person who is most likely a sex offender. The fact that he got so far in the industry without hiding how much of a degenerate he is just shows you how broken the world of Hollywood is!

Go do it! I say you're missing out on a lot. Start with "Take the Money And Run", "Love and Death" then the perfect trifecta of "Annie Hall", "Manhattan" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors". They're funny, clever, rarely longer than 95 minutes, and sometimes quite emotional too.

A lot of comments are saying your information is inaccurate. But that's not why I'm disliking the video. I'm disliking it because 25 minutes of it is just reciting Woody Allen movies and who was in them. I could have gone to IMDB for that. I was expecting more about what he was like behind the scenes or why he chose to do the projects he did. This entire video is pointless and offers no insight into Woody Allen as a person or as an artist.

@@Davesky19 I'm British so I grew up on a mix of dark sarcastic intelligent cringe inducing self deprecating stuff like Alan partridge , Nighty night ,Peep show, Blackadder But also Monty python , young ones and pantomime so slap stick isn't lost on me but Woody Allen films always feel like they are specifically made for a specific American audience or that type of British middle class who had one adventurous year back in collage and that was more than enough who live a world that I find kinda boring if I'm honest. Same reason as a director his visual style also just never gripped me . I love a Takeshi Kitano film as much as a Pixar classic I'm pretty open to whatever but Woody Allen films felt like a chore to get through.

The business with his adopted daughter is certainly gross but we really don’t know whether the other allegations were true or Parental Alienation Syndrome induced by Mia Farrow - an awful lot of seemingly very bright people who actually know them both concluded that was the case and continued working with Woody Allen afterwards - we, the audience will never know, so we choose what we want to believe. It does make watching Manhattan now more uncomfortable (but it was always uncomfortable, that’s kind of the point) but there are so many other great - GREAT - films he has made that it is a pity to have to avoid based on prejudicial thinking (and extremely biased documentaries). Midnight in Paris is a good example. Eventually they will be judged purely as art anyways (half the artists in our national galleries wouldn’t be there if we judged them otherwise - Michelangelo? Bloody pederast!).
