i love the pro-grabbler messaging, but i do feel like you missed some key info. namely: the throw vs jump mindgame. show them jump the pot bus tour, feel safe, and then get hit by the heavenly bus tour. also, newbies just hate blocking, so getting them to calm down so you can give them a big, spinning hug is also important. but then we're escaping the orbit of a 3 min summary vid, though. enjoyed the videos. best of luck with the algorithm.

Grapplers are one of the reasons that I picked up traditional fighting games. Most grapplers don't require you to know how to do these crazy combos and button presses, they just need to you to really focus on the fundamentals. Unless you are playing a game like MvC or Skullgirls, which require you to do crazy combos no matter who you play as. Unsurprisingly... those games are a bit too demanding for me.

Even so, I think for some things the perspective of more novice players is actually more valuable than that of experts. Strive baiken is kinda grappler adjacent because of how much she's rewarded for her throws, with the tether for either setplay, or just RC and get a combo that's akin to if you got a command grab. Hiiragi is also the animation of a command grab when you land it. You get hot angry samurai lady who can poke and play defensively, but still has no mobility tools. Absolutely not a grappler, but has some of their tendencies.

Is Xrd different than +R in that theres not as much character dependent stuff in it? I don't think I understand the "don't play if you aren't willing to learn character specific setups" as if you didn't have to do that with all characters

No Xrd has lot's of character specific things for every character. I meant in a more general sense for grapplers that early on you need to be asking yourself "can I command throw in this situation" to figure out punishes for stuff. As the big boys usually have to block it out and hold a lot of pressure and be paitient in many situations where other characters might have a better way of getting out of. Of course every character has specifics to consider in every match up but most others you can kind of develop a general blueprint.
