I bought this game after the beginning of TB's video but didn't finish the video because I wanted to play it first. Well, it took me 4 years, but just finished it today. I agree almost point for point with TB's points. I did enjoy it. I was disappointed in where the story went, just because the setup was so epically mysterious, and the ending was a smack in the face just before realizing that that was the whole point of the story/ending. I bought in on sale and have zero regrets.

Yeah, the fact that the ending is a "let down" is deliberate, it's the whole point of the game. This game is about escapism, it's about fantasy, it's about building up grandiose ideas in your head but eventually having to face a more tedious reality. The brilliance of the game is in the way those themes play out in multiple ways simultaneously - it's there in the mundane explanation of the game's mysteries, and it's there in your relationship with Delilah which ultimately goes nowhere. Both of those outcomes were inevitable. You were never going to uncover a grand conspiracy, and Delilah was always going to run off on you, leaving you to reflect on the life that you're trying to run away from. I absolutely *love* this game and the story it told. It sucked me in and spat me out, big time. It's a very mature, adult story, and it's absolutely not for everyone. But if you've ever had obligations in life that you just wanted to run away from, realities that you tried to escape but ultimately had to face, then I think you'll really connect with Firewatch.

Firewatch popped up on the steam store for me today as it's on a deep sale. Saw a link to this video on the store page and it brought back memories. Still miss you TB, was nice to hear you reviewing a game again.

Fantastic game, it's now also available on Switch (and performance is pretty good, has some visual downgrades and framerate drops a little at times but overall it plays really smooth).

I can't believe he didn't point out that the map and progression system is very Metroidvania. Some areas are blocked off until you acquire certain items or "powerups". Still, a fantastic impression video as always.
