I played the game for a few weeks and I must say, the low-level game mechanics and general game is excellent. My one point I would make is that after level 5, you have to play against all players, and that is incredibly difficult. In fact, the one word I would use to describe it is frustrating. You duck out of cover for one second and BAM, you're dead. Enemy ducks out of cover for five seconds and BAM, BAM, BAM - he's still alive? The progress grinds to a frustrating halt, as to level up you need kills, objectives capture, etc. However, this is difficult to get against overpowered enemies. I assume it is a very slow grind (incurring a massive penalty to your overall KDR) to get out of the mid-level rut, and then pick up the pace again, although I guess levelling is on an exponential curve of increasing difficulty, so...
@7GGonzalez10 жыл бұрын
I would recommend on improving your speed, you have to move up and change positions quickly. It's supposed to be a strategy slow-paced game but at those levels (the only players online are the pros for some reason) it's fast paced.

It's the best Tactical Game ever. It's Engaging, Smart team-play mechanics, competitive gampeplay beats every other game out there. I dare you if you can find any game which plays like this and which is also free to play. You can slide, go to cover behind almost everything. You can mod guns in the way you like.

The game as it stands now is far from what you see in this first impression review: it has completely become a pay to win and cash grab game. Before you had to level to get weapons, now you have to purchase every single weapon, from worst to better, to get to the one you want. There is no "at level 15 you can get this one" anymore, now it's "you want this gun? then you have to buy all the ones before this one" encouraging paying real money to get to that point fast. Because of this you will see players with way better tier guns than the rest, who are the ones who pay real money to get to that point fast. Cloaking is also completely unbalanced and TotalBiscuit did not mention it at all becaue he apparently didn't encounter any players using it on his first impression. The point of this whole game is to capture objectives while advancing tactically and using cover,eliminating enemies and flanking where needed, teamwork and cover of all angles is key, but when one guy can just press "F" and become invsibile and position himself behind your whole team's rear without anyone noticing and get 4-5 kills in 10 seconds you start to wonder, why would you add fucking invisibility to a tactical shooter game like this? Really? Invisibility?
@1xphobiusx110 жыл бұрын
The critical hit chance is key to the core experience of this game, it differentiates running, standing, crouching, cover, and prone by increasing the critical hit chance accordingly. Having it like this supports and promotes tactical team play and that is exactly what TB says he loves about this title.

"You know what would be really good? A free to play Ghost Recon!" Yeah, that's exactly how it went. It's not as if Ubisoft said that over 90% of their customers would pirate this game on PC anyway so they could as well make it free to play. I mean, heh, that just would be ridicilous. And, I'm sry if I am mistaken, I haven't played this game yet, but isn't it a little bit unfair that you have cover whilst it is a 3rd person shooter? I think it really can suck that you can be totally behind coverage but still see everything ahead of you. You can spot enemies without being even visible to them and they get like shot from a wall. I don't know if this is a problem, but I could imagine it was.
@vahnn011 жыл бұрын
Another cool recent addition is the Firing Range. You can enter any time, even while queued for a match, and shoot at mock targets set up around obstacle groups at various ranges, out to 300m. The best part is you can equip scopes, barrel attachments, grips, etc. in the store, then test them in the Firing Range before committing to your purchase! Great way to test out the feel of scopes and how various upgrades affect your actual weapon handling.

As someone who has more detailed experience, this is how the game works if you're still wondering (The game is a decent bit different from back then). I'm mainly making this for those who are curious, and TB does say if you're more experienced, go ahead and say in the comments if you want. Is this pay to win? A: Not in the slightest, there's not a single weapon or armorpiece that you can buy through real money that you can't buy through in game currency. That doesn't mean you won't have to grind though. Considering this game bases your rank off of your armor/weapons and skill though, it doesn't really matter. Is this an easy game? A: No, at first it will be, but if you're used to call of duty don't think this game won't kick your ass later on. This is a more competitive game that requires teamwork, strategy, actual skill, and patience. Does the cover system make this game unfair? A: No, especially since everyone has it. If you need to push, do so wisely. If you know how this game works, then you'll understand that there are always things you can do to get ahead of the game. Is this just a game for campers? A: No, every game mode is one where you have to capture and hold points. You cannot camp an entire game and do well, even if you're a sniper. You need to be able to push up when needed, and you need to be able to play defensive when needed. This game is really quite good. Also, keep in mind this game is no longer "Ghost Recon Online", but is now titled "Ghost Recon Phantoms" as its title. If you die, then it's likely your fault. This game does is not a game you want to play if you always blame everything except yourself for your deaths. It's only really for those who want to learn the game, and how it works. If anyone has any questions about the game, you can go ahead and ask me. I myself am quite experienced with this game, and I regularly contact players who are easily in the top 1000 ranks.
@maxpayne186210 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with everything you say,well almost."f you die, then it's likely your fault"-I play as a support(specialist with lmg) and I use the shield so I have to push a lot,but the problem I have atm is that a lot of recons with too OP smgs are rushing me and just get into my shield.And since they use the stealth ability full,I can barely see them.WTF

Max Payne Recons with SMGs are the bane of my life in GRP. I play as a sniper-recon, and there is nothing worse than getting shot in the back by an OP infiltrator, especially when they start exploiting your teams inability to spot cloaked recons (Most recons learn how to spot other cloaked recons fairly quickly, especially if you are a sniper, but the other classes seem not to be as aware of them).

How grenades work: Hold left click and it gives you the large arc. You release left click and it throws the grenade overhand. Hold right click and it's a gentle roll. It looks like he's holding right click to snap out of cover with the grenade, and then left clicking when he is ready to throw it. So to throw a grenade, you just hold the mouse button of your choice and release to throw. If you change your mind you have to switch to your pistol or something.

As you said numerous times in the video; people actually play tactically because they are encouraged to. I have (while under significant duress) sat down and played the dreaded game. . . Call of Duty. There is no incentive to be productive. You just sit there and farm kills, it's boring. With this, it's hard NOT to be a team player. Within seconds of playing it for the first time, I was cooperating with my teammates and destroying the other team. It's wonderful.
@NLDavidXD11 жыл бұрын
This game is really great! I have played it for 100+ hours right now. Got my recon to max lvl. A lot of people complain about the matchmaking, but I don't have much problems with it. I usually get into a match within the minute. I always get matched up with people who are approximately my level. In nearly all fights there is a better team, but I rarely get completely owned or own with my team. Also the teamplay is really great! It works so natural! Truly worth your time!

Great review I thought you were right on with what you said. The problem you were having with your grenades is that when you right click and hold you get the aim indicator for an underhand throw and when you left click you throw overhand. Hold left click to see the overhand aim indicator or release right click to throw underhand. Don't hold right click and hit left click or else you will see the underhand and throw over hand.

All the people saying, Oh at level 7 it gets so hard because you fight everyone. Well you have to realize a LOT of these players who still play today, have been playing a LONG time. They have been practicing and practicing. Any player that has decent experience can still get MVP on the leaderboard with Gl weapons. If you just play it, lightly and casually. You are going to have a bad time. Find friends who play, use VOIP. Organize. Practice. You don't need to pay, to win. All be it, it does help you skip ahead in the ranks. The noob grind will teach you a lot.

Hello Mister Biscuit, good review, I'm responding to you about how the game plays at the higher levels. I'm a Lvl-30 Recon and Lvl-27 Specialist and I have to say, the experience is every bit as good as it was at the lower levels. The standard gets much higher, especially in the Fireteam or Clan matches in which I often play; in those games, everybody maneuvers and uses cover intelligently and you cannot rely on your opponents to make stupid mistakes; instead, you have to outplay them.

I really like the whole encouraging people to "work together as a team" system. Like the times with the shield, people moved so well like as if they were all synchronized with one another. It's like developers were thinking "you know what, all these voice chatting and all don't work at all cause people seem to lack communication skills. So, lets make it where people can just use common sense to work as a team without having to communicate like some 11 year old." GJ ubisoft

You can buy the ammo that gives a 20% bonus for a small amount of regular credits or the credits that cost money. If you use them when you need to use them without wasting the ammo you could probably make more credits then you loose by using them. As far as I saw in the store at least, I didn't see any premium ammo. There were some guns that could only be bought with money that give a tiny stat bonus. That is the only thing P2W I saw, and even only slightly.(only a 2% increase to a stat or 2.

First time i looked at this game i was blown away, amazing GRaphics yet not too fancy on sides...and well put together so it runs epic on even low end systems which is important factor for free2play games because most players are probably saving money by not buying high end pc wnd latest game....However after playing 3 days i have come to conclusion why i probably won't play it more than a week.... The problems with this game i am having: -pay to win....players who have spent 200 dollars can seriously easily wipe out half of the opposite team in instant 5x times in a round... -spawning far far away then taking 1 minute to get into battle. -very small rounds... -not able to join mid game -not able to host a match (this all adds up to you waiting 8 min in lobby doing nothing, then finally waiting another 2 min before actual game starts, and then getting killed three times and killing 2 times all accompanied by 2 min waiting...and that's it round over...) so much waiting and so little gameplay. more things that i hate: -3rd person perspective...40% of my screen is covered by my unit...And camera is often looking in direction where gun isn't pointing so if were to shoot i would have to first wait for it to switch side and then aim etc.. -not able switch class in midgame. -not able to CHOOSE MAP or GAME TYPE...just get randomly stuck to one shit map. -UNABLE to highlight enemy for your teammates...if you see someone casually walking behind your allies all you can do is vaguely try to describe it in chat which nobody is paying attention to and 99% time its too late.. -No damn replay ( if you get killed and you have to wait 30s the least you can do is see how someone killed you or where that person clearly...not to mention if someone is hacking there is no way to tell since you are never seeing replay or following him for few seconds) -worst map...bf3 has much better clear map....this alpha 3d model of whole scenes just looks like expired rice....you can't really tell what map is showing beside what direction some of your allies are and no way of knowing how to get there...also you are not able to drag map just rotate it) -the game looks like it was meant to play as group/team coordinating yet has no apparent or even hidden mechanism that would allow this, you can't even highlight, all you have voice chat which you can't tell who is speaking easily and quality is often bad. -assault guns have crazy recoils they are only good for very close range... -no way to hold breathing for sniper class beside laying against a wall. -you can cover in cardboard and it will protect you. can we really get rid of or shorten drastically shooting time once you change your stance (standing to crotch)

TB, I believe the reason there are critical hits in this game, is because there are things that would be considered more vital, such as organs, bone, and arteries. But trying to develop each individual part of a person would be logically a logistic nightmare, in a game with extreme TTK like this most players wouldn't even bother aiming that in depth. Its different than having something like head-shots because in heated combat (especially ranged) the striker or even injured might not notice.

Thanks for this WTF! I almost forgotten about GRO! Remember when the close beta was announced like "years" ago. Now it's in "open beta" but feels very polished already. It is a great deal of fun! Makes me wonder why Ubi does not do any PR for that game - it really is awesome!

This brings back memories of Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2 with its tactical, cover-based gameplay - Vegas 1 was the first online game that I really liked and it also reminds me of Resistance 2's co-op mode where teamwork was similarly encouraged and natural to do. Nowadays, the game is known as Ghost Recon Phantoms. You can find it on Steam or from the official website (you will need a Uplay account, Uplay client is not needed) and for me, it has this "EU" subtitle for whatever reason. Does that mean I will only be able to play with people from the EU? -Or perhaps it has something to do with the EU starter packs you can get.- The game is region-locked, should you have the wrong region, then you download it from the official site. Regardless, I'm going to give this a try, I miss playing tactical, cover-based shooters. Speaking of such games: what happened to the last Rainbow Six that was announced a while ago?

I think the reason GR:O has such a good feel is because it was created by a triple-A company that had experience in making polished and solid games. Only issue I have is that your soldier feels kind of slow with the time it takes for your aim to settle, making reflexes in shooting games a bit less influential. I suppose it's good as it allows newer shooter gamers to warm into the game without getting utterly ripped apart, but it will probably aggravate many people who are accustomed to traditional shooters.
@Storbein10 жыл бұрын
What bothers me about this game is that this game was released just a few months after GR: Future Soldier, the multiplayer on Future Soldier is some of the most fun times ive had with any shooting game the last few years. this game is basically the same, except it has a working online mode (FS doesnt, not anymore, it was broken by patches and to my knowledge never fixed) but it really bothers me that the exact same publisher would release a triple A title at full price, and only a few months down the road release an online 3PS that is basically just the multiplayer of said triple A, stripped down and reduced graphics.
@Storbein10 жыл бұрын
***** Well, what happened to FS is that when it released, it had quite some frame issues, crashes and overall piss poor performance, this was however fixed (COMPLETELY for me atleast, it ran silky smooth afterwards) by a patch that broke the online multiplayer, you would be disconnected every 5 minutes (this applied for everyone regardless of their settings and internet connection), quickly, the amount of players online hit zero. Apparently, the game was "fixed" at a later time, but there are only a few hundred people playing this game on PC, but assuming they are in your region isnt gonna get you far, also there are still plenty of posts and threads on the forums that the online service is very unreliable. GR:O is free, and very good, but just doesnt have the graphical fidelity, or weapons customization of FS. The biggest problem with any of the two games is that they are both published by ubisoft, and while they make fantastic, beautiful games, some of the best on the market. they just dont cater to the PC audience. Don't buy FS.

I am yet to see anything but the power level booster which is gold only. I can get the sexy British SA80 series soon. That's all I need :P.

1. The game depends on files from two different folders for no reason, the actual exe is under programs and the launcher is under users. 2. I do, but it's a massive hassle. And no, uninstalling it from the control panel is not getting rid of it without using the installer. 3. Because the UAC confirmation does not always kick in, preventing some programs from preforming actions that needs to be approved by an admin. Such as launchers updating/adding files and at times, connecting to servers.

When the enemy has a lvl 30 gun you won't notice much difference. But holding a higher level gun yourself makes it feel like Ubisoft gave you a big kiss on the forehead for making progress. The main thing about the higher level guns is that they feel smoother imo. Like TB said some guns are straight up better than others but you'll never notice that in combat

Very true on all accounts. There's also the continued issue which has been brought up a lot on the level of expense of in-game currency and its correlation to the ghost coins. You're almost forced to buy money eventually with how little you get, even if you do really well. you can dominate and only get 100 rp a game sometimes. That and a single weapon or armor piece can easily cost you over 20 dollars in Ghost Coins. Most expensive F2P shooter thus far.

for me, playing in the "beginners league" at the start was a lot of fun. as soon as you hit lvl 5 and play in open lobby, the game does become a bit more pay to win as it should be. armor is really good if you buy it, and the better guns are about twice as good as your starting gun, which makes it nearly impossible to win a head on gun fight. this makes the game experience fun for the first 1-2 hours of your account, afterwards you would really need to buy stuff to keep up imo

it's fairly even actually, about 2-3 of every class in a team. And not every scout is a sniper, as they can choose between sniper rifle or something like a sub machine gun (sneaking around, using limited invisibility if they wish)

Regarding the "You won't run into a guy with a higher level gun". This is bull. At level 5-10 I ran into the top level Sniper Rifles and MGs quite often.

You aren't suppose to... and he played in early February of last year, this wasn't an issue at the time. Even the most "OP" stuff was still beatable.

yeah True i do all the time and he forgets you can lob the Grenade underhand

Allen Ensley Hopefully, with the steam release, we won't have the issue of bad matchmaking.

"I'm gonna get it faster than MOST people" Actually, you are getting it just as fast as anyone that's won once and levelled up twice, with a booster attached. At level 3 I'd say that's probably the majority.

It's much easier to have everything in one library, mate. I understand him. "One click" no, it's not one click. On that website, I have to download, create a account, verify the account, then install it, patch it with their patcher, etc. With steam? search: "Ghost Recon Online" -> "Install" -> "Play"

They put critical hits in to be more realistic. In real life you won't get X amount of damage if you get shot in the arm, it varies every time depending on the size of caliber, what has damaged internally, how much protection your body armour has given, how much velocity the bullet had as it entered and then when it left etc.

I feel like the critical chance is an equalizer for the underpowered guns. because once you leave beginners bracket you are matched with level 20-30 players. Most level 30 weapons 2 shot an unbuffed recon or specialist so it makes sense that if you stick with the same weapon for a long time and level up its critical chance it will still be competitive with an f2000 or a P90

hey TB, you probably wont see this, but just a quick tip with the grenades,left mouse for a normal throw, and right mouse for a under hand throw. Just saying it becouse it looks like you'r clicking both at the same time. Not sure that's the problem, but I'm only trying to help.

The camera can be a little crazy at times if you hug a corner in a certain way near a door the camera is set outside and you can around the corner without being seen

That's TB for you. By the end of this year a two hour video will be considered "short" on this channel.

I only played about five matches, but in those five I got hooked. I love all the people complaining about grinding, seeing as how from the gate you get guns that are good enough to use seemingly to endgame, as they aren't.'worse' than the guns you unlock at all. I recommend trying out this game for sure. Not for everyone, but tactical junkies are missing out on this gem... :D

Finishing entire matches without going through an entire 100 round magazine?! Say what?! That's what the ammo regenerating squad support device is for! I have only fired 3 rounds of Magnum Ammo, in my M500 SV when I got it for free at level 5. I still have the remaining 32 rounds equipped on the gun, but have never loaded them since. Headshots are everything.
@Rebdellian11 жыл бұрын
the crit is there for one reason: if you use the gun long enough it's going to have a huge crit chance, which makes a low lvl gun competitive vs a high-level gun:)
@PromptedHawk11 жыл бұрын
I know it requires a specific level, and that's another thing that I absoloutley love about this game, because this is the situation in other games:" Well, just joined this game and i'm after the toturial, I'm ready to go! (getting shot by overpowered gun) BLUGHBLUGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGH! (he says as he got killed) THIS IS A STARTER MATCH DANGIT! " (sorry for caps, I just wanted to get the message through)
@Larknok111 жыл бұрын
Crit chance is significantly decreased if you're not ADS or in cover, and also increases the more you use your gun. I feel that the first gives players more incentive to use their cover systems (even if they're not aware of it), and the second gives players something to work at (I know it sounds stupid, but it certainly adds a little replay value.) Magnum ammo is an absolute scam and simply not worth the money on every rifle but the sniper, which desperately needs it for those OHKOs. :)

Going along with this. I have to say the match ups tend to get kind of ridiculous. As a level 10 specialist. I go against level players that have much more experience than I do. Which grows to be a pain. Clans tend to over run my team if I am not rolling with a clan myself. The experience does make you a better player, but it just seems really rough.

17:07 Boy, is TB gonna be disappointed when he hears about the new Magnum Ammo for Blacklight. But it's fine because the extra 2 damage from Magnum Ammo in BLR actually gives you a recoil+accuracy penalty.
@KickThatZombie11 жыл бұрын
Magnum ammon is awesome... for snipers, low lvl snipers takes 1 HEADSHOOT and 1 anywhere on the body, 2 headshoots and one on the body if the enemy have 140 hp or more...

Dear TotalBiscuit, the reason your grenade trows are bad might be because you aim with your right mouse button and then trow with you left mouse button. This makes your grenades go farther as expected because you use only your left mouse button to trow overhand and only your right mouse button to kinda roll it

This game shows a good first impressions as being a good game. After you pass level 5, you will know this isn't a game about skill, it's a game of whoever has played the longest. It's a play to level to pay to win game(or play even more.) After you pass level 5 you would be 2 shot by any other play because they have 150% of your health and much more powerful guns. Don't get me wrong, it's a very fun game, just needs a lot of balancing.
