if you just press "A" and not a direction + "A" the combo won't be interupted because you just leap over the target thus dodging the incoming attacks even by other enemies and you can continue. you learn that in one of the interupting menues while fighting.
@30TACOZ10 жыл бұрын
Personally, I like the game. Sure it's linear, but that doesn't make it bad. But the thing that doesn't make any sense, is that if Lilin has the presence to sense incoming attack and dodge them, why can't she counter attack? They were going for the Arkham series' style of combat, but removed the other half of what you should be doing in combat. My other big gripe is that your combo shouldn't break by switching targets. Right from the very first combat sequence I tried to play the game like Arkham city, punch and jumping from person to person keeping my combo high. But if you start a combo, you better hope to God and high-heaven that you don't switch to another target. Because if you do, your combo will break and you'll have to start it all over again. That's why there should've been a counter attack to counter enemy attacks so your combo won't get fucked if you just dodged to the side or to the back. And while I do like the idea of creating your own combos, there should've been alot more combo strings, not just 4 combo strings. Other than that, I liked Remember Me. It wasn't the greatest but it had unique ideas with having the ability to manipulate memories, but the combat was so tedious. If I were to give this game a review, I would've given it a 6 or 7, depending if you're willing to pay $20. But for PS users, like myself, it's free so it's going to be a low 7.

I love the fact that the soundtrack is themed to match the setting of the game. Your standard "epic story" soundtrack (Think of the OST for the movie Oblivion) but completely glitched.

@Diego A good combat function would not give you ONLY dodge. It would give counter moves to preform. Like he said, they were going for something similar to Batman, and you can see it if you watch this game closely. Dodging should only be half of what you can do when performing combos in order to keep your combos alive. And if this lady has the presence of mind to telegraph and dodge everything, then you can bet your sweet bippy she's got the presence of mind to counter incoming attacks. And changing targets should not kill your combo. That's just an epic fail.

It's one of those things that make you wonder: _"How did someone think this was a good idea?"_ Perhaps you should have been there to stop those kind of things. Also, perhaps you could have used the "+" thing, start typing and that should work (though it bugs out sometimes).

***** It just makes me sad that it has such potential. I like to see female protagonists, and I want to see more of them, but they need better mechanics. Samus gets hers, Lara Craft gets hers, even Princess Peach got hers, but other game developers seem to want to be stingy with that stuff, like they don't want to take any chances. Screw that noise, go balls to the wall and give it your all! Also, this whole setup had me dazed and confused at first. heh

Actually changing targets doesn't kill your combo if you are quick enough, so you can do damage with your big combos without having to dodge attacks.

Hellbane224 Yes, a female protagonist who's not a damsel in distress or sexualized is rare and was a nice change because you rarely see female minority characters. Shame that the play wasn't good. Their focus on world design served them well. - All Games But in all seriousness, the world they created is awesome. I want to know more, I want to see more. Imagine this world and protagonist in a Assassins Creed-esque game, open world, free running and combat, but in Neo Paris with the plot they have going.... that would literally be a contestant for game of the year in my opinion. Hopefully this doesn't kill the IP, because there is much potential to be had with this world.

Remember Me left me wishing it gave me just a little more. I wanted the Memory Remix feature to give me more options, providing the game with the Choose Your Own Adventure feel it seemed to promise early on. I also wanted less linear gameplay, because the environments teased me with interesting places to explore. The combat is very solid though. While the game fell short in certain areas, this is a very enjoyable first entry by Dontnod. With some refinement, this could be an excellent series

I like this game. The fighting isnt that bad as pictured here. Sure you have the premade movesets, but a damage move will deal more damage the later it comes and stuff like that. And you can finish the combos without getting interrupted. You can dodge an attack without interrupting your combo. its punch dodge punch and maybe dodge again. and I dont mind games being linear. not every game needs to be explorative.

What you can also get is that you've figured out something and then the game explains exactly that which you've just found out. _"Ehm yeah, I already knew that."_ The memory remixing sounds very interesting and I like cyberpunk ever since Deus Ex HR, but it's a shame that the combat lets it down. I wouldn't describe myself as a mechanically-focussed gamer, but I do value gameplay over story. Ideally, I'd like to have both, but if I have to pick one, then it's gameplay as I believe that you play a game because it's fun to play. Though admittedly, that can be interpreted rather broadly, adding in stuff like atmosphere and such, but you get the idea - I hope.

For me, it's also a case of time. In order to hit a target 5 times and getting your combo interrupted, you require a lot of things to be going your way. In the arkham games, once your critical hits get going, your targets go flying with one hit. Your effectiveness doesn't diminish because you want to punch someone. Sure, there's also all the specials, and combo extension with gadgets and dodges, the one full second between actions before your combo breaks; All of it keeping the action going.

Combat system is actually pretty good, but game does it some disservice by introducing it too slowly. At least the basic pressen types should have been available at the start. I saw someone complaining about enemies that damage you when you hit them... Guess what, you deal with them by having a combo that heals you and boosts your special ability recharging! Ranged enemies? Specials or Junk Blast (ranged attack). And so forth. Dodge does not break combos either, unless you want to use withdraw move to get out of AOE. If you run into a difficult fight, swap the combos for something more suitable for that fight and try again.

Indeed - there's also a neat finisher kick that lets you whirl around a bit if you complete the combo. Oh, and another note on TB's comments: finishing combos is quite possible if you manoeuver a bit and try to get your enemies on one side instead of letting yourself get surrounded/swarmed. This, on a sidenote, also increases the chance of multiple enemies being hit by the same attack/s. Anyways, just finished it, loved the story. It's got some amazing twists, and the protagonist is awesome. :D

There are tactics to kill those enemies, one of them is to eliminete every other foe on the field and leave the electric guy at the end, then you just keep hitting him with strong combos, since his electric charge can damage you but not completely kill you. When new guy appears I usually used some short combos with healing pressens and came back into the green. Its a matter of tactic.

Regarding dodge, directed dodges are needed when you're not fighting, i.e. avoiding boss attacks during boss fights. but u can keep dodging endlessly and never lose the combo just press space without using any direction keys and while in mid-dodge "in the aid above the target" hit the next button in the combo and once she lands she'll continue the combo as if she never dodged. btw the game kinda tells you that in the hints.

On the memory rewriting mechanic, there is actually a story driven RPG based entirely around that concept. It's called "To the Moon" and it's on Steam for $10. It was made on a simple 2D RPG maker, has basically no combat and the story revolves around a pair of scientists that rewrite the memories of dying clients so they can die happy thinking they fulfilled their life's dreams.

How does the review of someone sound, who played Remember Me but was ridiculously bad at it? See above. It's harder than spamming the B button in the Batman Games, I give him that. How much I like his reviews in general, the main reason for him not liking it is his ADS and inability to master a bit harder system.
@SiliconSlyWolf11 жыл бұрын
Another factor not mentioned is that Arkham's counter system is part of the free flow. So if guy attacks you, it would interrupt your combo if you don't react in time and get hit. But if you successfully counter, then you stop his attack, build up your combo, and keep going.
@Silvernirvash11 жыл бұрын
the problem with reviewing games like Remember Me and The Last of US is that the game itself is STORY driven and thus have no side story options, no additional Content beyond the story itself. So every single step of the way would in fact count as a spoiler to those viewing said review. Especially on a review of THIS kind where you do a "first impressions" kinda thing where you play around with for between 20-40 minutes at a time.
@oliverandm11 жыл бұрын
You can still review the gameplay mechanics :) The Last of Us had very solid multiplayer too. True you won't get a full sense of it, but the first impressions can be crucial. I think TB is a bit harsh on this game.
@Silvernirvash11 жыл бұрын
gameplay mechanics yes, multiplayer sure. But what if the gameplay mechanics drove you through the story regardless of how hard you tried to avoid it? The only way to do a review of a game like The Last of Us with out giving spoilers to the plot is the ONLY play the multiplayer and that won't give you a full feeling of the game because even the online multiplayer plays differently from the single player mode to a degree.
@Silvernirvash11 жыл бұрын
as for being harsh on this game. I actually played this game and i'm fully 100% his opinion on it simply because of how much they boosted exploration during the development of this game. It was a massive let down to me personally because i was expecting a compelling story in a large (not open) explorable world. and they didn't give us that, hell they didn't even give us a decent enough combat system because honestly i got bored of that too it felt like i was button smashing most of them :/
@Froody4211 жыл бұрын
Also, if I remember correctly, dodging or jumping over an enemy does not 'break' your combo in the Arkham game. Instead, it holds your current streak and continues with your next punch, unless you simply jump away and don't immediately follow that up with an attack. Furthermore, you can respond to basic enemy attacks with a defensive counter move that counts as part of your combo like an attack would. Looks like Remember Me really could have used some defensive options that tie into combos too.

@TB: Concerning combat, well yeah that's true ennemies constantly interupt you in your combos, however, dodging ON or OVER ennemies actually lets you finish your combos. That's the whole point, dodging over foes (and not away) precisely before being hit by other ennemies.

I'm so glad you mentioned the tutorials in this game. I had moments playing where I was ready to throw down the controller, punch my monitor, etc...due to the horribly invasive and constant tutorials. Yes, there are a lot of game mechanics in Remember Me, but at some point you either do totally get it by now, or you wanna figure it out on your own anyway. Even near the end the game kept reminding me to do combos. It was so awful. NO way to turn it off at all.
@TamsinV11 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the way the Arkham games do it is by building in both dodges and counters to the system that don't break your combo streak; as long as you're fast and smart, you can keep hitting, and the enemies don't wait for you. When you're beating on a guy and his friend comes at you with a bat from behind, you can counter him straight from your attacks on the first guy.

Having beaten the game here is my viewpoint. The highlight of the game is definitely the soundtrack, and it does a lot to improve the immersion of the game. The combat, while somewhat annoying allows for a ton of customization and so I found a lot of variety for taking down enemeis there, later in the game certain sequences will actually force you to change up your combos to take down certain types of enemy. The story does take a while to really throw twists, the game is great if you can wait

Never saw any gameplay past when it was put on Steam for pre-order, the only real gripe I had with the game was literally the almost complete lack of exploration. There is room for improvement, but it was an amazing debut title.

Just completed the game and must say I really enjoyed it. The combat system doesn't suck, its just very different and takes some time to get used to. Don't trust TB on anything he said about the combat, he simply didn't grasp it and therefore concluded it was bad. You can dodge and continue the combo and the pressens is a cool mechanic that lets you optimize the combos. It's a shame people didn't like this game more. Once I got the hang of the combat, I actually really enjoyed it. M/KB works fine in this game, just the QTEs will make you want to put your fist through a wall, because they prompt you with action icons instead of keys, much like the Assassin's Creed 2 port did. For general moving and fighting, though, M/KB is perfectly functional.

For an added performance boost you can tilt the laptop in the direction the data is traveling so gravity pushes it along. If you're environmentally conscious and don't like the idea of all this power being used, just get a shorter cable. A 50% shorter cable will yield a 50% decrease in power consumption. This is why power becomes more expensive the farther you live from a power plant. On another note, don't forget to download more RAM periodically. In '13 you should have at least 4 watts of RAM
