The bit from 12:23 onwards, about bylines and 'knowing the editor', is right on the spot. Kudos to you, TotalBiscuit.

Found myself yelling at the screen to help you out with the puzzles, TB. ;)
@cynicalbrit12 жыл бұрын
Like...? "Oh you can rewind time", which is not remotely integral to the puzzles. You could rewind time in Prince of Persia too, which came out before Braid. Rewinding time is a required mechanic of Braids puzzles because it essentially clones the character. "Oh, it has doors for levels". Yeah what of it? Games 30 years ago had those. "It has a nice art style", lots of games have nice art styles. Essentially I find your critique way too simplistic and shallow.
@killroy71311 жыл бұрын
I just noticed part of the sound track was stolen from Kerbal Space program
@zeikjt12 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Between the puzzler gameplay, level selection being laid out in a hallway of locked doors, fetching keys to open doors, and rewinding time it all feels very inspired by Braid.

I thoroughly love this game, but believe me, if you get into the later stages, the puzzles get INCREDIBLY difficult. The level design is very MC Escher, as TB mentioned, but I feel it's not as easily recognized in the earlier levels. Very recommended for puzzle lovers.

To solve that last puzzle for you, TB -- @ 15:50 You should stay to the far right, then rotate the level counterclockwise. BUT when the ball starts rolling, keep rotating the level so it doesn't hit you and goes for the door. Keep rotating until the level is where it originated, the ball ends up at your starting area, and you're at the door.

Hello, human from the past! Know that whenever you hear music that you recognize from another game or video, it's probably by Kevin MacLeod. He makes royalty free music that a lot of people use (like KSP).

I have just purchased the bundle from IndieRoyale and I've just realized that the game "Vertex Dispenser" has been greatly overlooked so far and there is no "WTF is...?" video of it. It's fun! And I somewhat wish there was an episode covering it - it definitely needs some popularity. It's a really neat game.

I'm getting more enjoyment reading TB fight with his viewers than I got from the video.
@Ashnal12 жыл бұрын
For those curious about the game, the inversion mechanic shows itself a bit later. That mechanic basically inverts all of the geometry in the level, adding an additional layer of complexity to the puzzle solving. The game may not have a lot of buttons, but the puzzles can get complex and can require quite a bit of spatial intelligence to solve.
@TangoLeTurtle12 жыл бұрын
He explains himself after that point, not that it was needed. He said that you have to use your own preferences and principles in comparison to his and what is shown, he isn't picking fights, he is making a point clear that you know what he likes and it is up to you to determine from that as to whether you will like the game. Also, as pointed out many times in his videos, it is not a review, it is a first impressions, completely different things.
@MrLoneWoof12 жыл бұрын
It's also used in Eschalon and made either by by Borislav Slavov (a fan of the game ;) ) or Kevin MacLeod. Probably the latter, as he releases it on Creative Commons license. So yes, it's royalty free.

It is his channel and he determines what he feels is best for his channel and viewers. If you do not like it, you do not have to complain. You can easily unsubscribe. He wants to make sure his videos apply to all of the targeted audience not just the select group that have the same interests. His objective isn't to play whatever or review whatever he wants. He makes these videos to help people make informed decisions about games. And just because you subscribe, does not mean he owes you anything
@cynicalbrit12 жыл бұрын
Doors to access levels? What an original concept? That hasn't been done before or anything, it's not like that's it's a level selection mechanic that's existed in games for the past 30 years or anything.

Yeah, I remember he mentioned it in the comments section of an older video, though I honestly have no idea where that was (most likely a puzzle game video). He's probably mentioned it in a more obvious place before that, but if so I don't know where.

It's not an overreaction if it's the one that breaks the camel's back. I've seen another flame war that started the exact same way and it didn't end in a Vlog about it. All that happened to it was it became an anecdote on the TGS podcast.

I'm grateful that TB shows games that he doesn't personally enjoy all that much. It means that he will show games that I might love even though it doesn't fit his personal tastes. For example, The Binding of Isaac. While TB didn't necessarily pan that game, he also didn't seem particularly enamored of it either. Nevertheless, I bought it right after watching TB's video and have put something like 600 hours into it so far, and I'm still playing it almost every day!

Anyone else notice the picture of the main character together with Isaac Newton at the start? Nice touch, along with the apple falling on his head at the very beginning.
@MakooWallinen12 жыл бұрын
A simple reason as to why he does the puzzlers and the platformers rather than the FPS games etc might be because there are just more of the small indie small man teams with small budgets doing puzzlers rather than other genres It could also be so simple that we know what kind of puzzler he hates and he himself is also curious if he actually likes any puzzler and that might also help some of his regular viewers to get into puzzle games. Also the other games might need more editing and tutorial

no, thats YOUR reaction. My reaction, without seeing TB's vid mind you, was "this guy is trying to request a video but is making it sound like it is not a request" this is the way I got a planetside 2 beta key without being banned/ downvoted to oblivion on r/planetside, I made a request that sounded like an innocent question.

@NyuuPingu12 жыл бұрын
@all the guys complaining about 'bad reviews': as far as I know, the series 'WTF is...' is not meant to be a good review about any game. It's about showing people how this game looks through the eyes of a newcommer and to show some indiegames
@ShazmanMerc12 жыл бұрын
TB - Have you considered time-lapsing certain games you first-impression? In order to give yourself a few segments here and there to experience the game a bit without needing to talk through certain bits as a distraction. I know if I were trying to talk while introducing myself to something like a puzzle game, I'd lose my patience in a heartbeat. I give you props for doing your damnedest. XD

At least for me, single-mechanic puzzle-platformers are an interesting genre. After learning the rules and limitations of the game, you have to solve deceptively simple puzzles, and it can be challenging. Limbo's character could hardly jump or run fast, same with Braid's character. It's really telling that the level you had the most trouble with was by far the most plain looking. That's the strength of the genre. For people who enjoy problem solving, often difficult-yet-simple is best.
@jinlaw300112 жыл бұрын
Thanks TB. I have to say, I wasn't that interested in this game but I'm glad I got to see what it's all about and what it is. I doubt I'll be buying it, I'm terrible at these games.
