Fun Fact: The scribbles Aoyama beamed into the rock spelled out a sentence in French. It roughly means “Still waters run deep.” Also, because one chapter ended with Aoyama staring out the window, people thought that Sparkle Boy was gay for Deku. But no. Aoyama is a socially awkward bean who is the equivalent of a disabled person in this show.

But if he turns out not to be the traitor then I think he was deliberately set up as a red herring, there's too much stuff that conveniently points to him. Like the fact that during the first attack by the League of Villains he completely disappeared (though he could have just been hiding like in the attack at the camp), in the attack at the camp he only contributed at the last minute and did so in a way that didn't prevent the villains from accomplishing their main objective (but that could have been bad luck and he did save Tokoyami). But for me the biggest hint that there could be something nefarious going is... in this episode right there. How weird is it that Aoyama's body isn't adapted to his quirk? We haven't seen any other examples like that except for Deku. But for Deku it's because his quirk was passed to him. So I wonder: maybe Aoyama got his power from AfO? That would explain why his body isn't suited to the quirk.

@@swordcrab3181 Kaminari's hasn't either. He still burns himself out if he uses it too much. Also I feel like if a student IS the traitor, it's Kaminari. He hasn't gotten a backstory, we haven't seen his family like some of the other students (IMO the students shown to have a happy supportive family like Aoyama, Jiro, Koji, Iida, etc. aren't likely to be villains), plus, they've mentioned that during one (or both?) of the villain attacks, they couldn't radio for help because someone was jamming their communications. Denki's power would allow that, plus his support item is perfect for communicating silently with other people. "Communication Earpiece: Denki wears an earpiece on his right ear that allows him to channel his electricity and create electrical communication signals. This allows him to communicate with other channels remotely. However, signals can also be blocked out by outside electrical disturbance" When the kids turned in their hero costume designs, UA made that item for free for him. But, four anime seasons and hundreds of manga chapters later, we haven't seen him use the earpiece ONCE. That's weird, right? No one else in the class wears one or has the ability to receive those communcation signals (unless Momo makes one herself), so who would he be communicating with? I think it's entirely possible he's been communicating with the league in secret, while jamming UA's communications during the attacks.

Not sure anyone mentioned it in the comments yet...but Aoyama is the My Hero Academia's world equivalent of someone with disabilities. He literally has had to wear the belt his entire life otherwise the side effects of his quirk could cause him to be sick all the time. The fact that he got into UA and Class 1-A is a testament of his positive attitude that he always shows throughout the show. I think that is why it was so easy for him to connect with Midoriya in this this episode, because while he might not have known Midoriya didn't always have a quirk, he understands the burden of having a quirk the side effects of not being able to control it, even though on different levels (his stomach hurting vs. Midoriya breaking bones). That is probably why they were able to understand each other and become friends so quickly in this episode, although I am surprised with how smart Midoriya is, that it took him this long to realize that there was someone very similar to him all along in his class.

The way I am choosing to interpret Aoyama this episode is that he is just sheltered and socially awkward. I think we all knew a kid at school who was really frickin weird and did strange things in order to try and make friends and communicate.

That is canonically true, and exactly what Horikoshi was going for. Also, this little two or three chapter mini-arc in the manga was meant to trick people into thinking Aoyama was the traitor, but it is of course eventually revealed that he's just a weird guy trying to make friends as well as he knows how.

So to explain the whole cheese thing, its pretty straight forward. His quirk causes him a lot of stomach and digestive track issues, which as we see, can lead to him soiling himself if pushed far enough. So to combat that, he eats cheese, a common food that's known to cause constipation if consumed in large portions. More or less, its his way of saying "I get it. Having to do a little extra because our body's demand more out of us for our quirks to work" or something to that effect. Its more or less his version of Deku needing to find an entirely new way to fight so he doesn't harm himself.

I love the character development for Bakugou and Endeavor in this episode. So proud of my boys! Especially Bakugou! It made so much sense when he talked to the child leader because he was that child when he was that age!

Aoyama's role in the class is that weirdo kid who's maybe not the greatest at making friends. This was his "quirky" way of trying to connect with someone he feels he has something in common with. Funny story in the manga the Aoyama on the balcony scene was actually a cliffhanger. For an entire week everyone thought Aoyama was the traitor and freaked out. Then the next chapter came out and hilariously explained everything.

Okay, people keep saying that Aoyama is the equifalent of an disabled person, but aren't most if not all quirks more or less uncompatible with the owners body? I mean Todoroki can over- and underheat, Momo has to keep tabs on her waight unless she want's to become underweight using her quirk, Tsu get's pretty much forced to sleep whenever it get's cold, Kaminari turns his brain to mush when releasing to much energy, that one kid from Tsuketsu high probably is in risk of brain damage thanks to his earthquake quirk, Stain could paralyze himselfe, Shigaraki pretty much destroys everything he touches with all 5 fingers, Bakugo literrally risks destroying himselfe if he overdoes it, and those where just the easy and obvious examples.
