You know what.. idc what anyone says. That was one of the best, maybe THE BEST, episode of Anime I’ve seen so far. I’ll put it right next to my favorite Attack On Titan episode. Most likely because I’ve only seen a few Animes, but god damn that was absolutely mindblowingly amazing. As if I wasn’t loving the Anime enough, it REALLY begins now !? I can’t believe it. What did you guys think of this episode? Even if you’ve read the Manga, how did you feel when all this happened?

I hate that they made himeno look like someone that would survive longer than others but ended up sacrificing herself. Aki really does feel like someone who is precious to others because he cares about them. but then when that leads to everyone around Aki sacrificing themselves for his sake, his caring nature is turned back on him in a really hurtful way. because they can't bear to see him hurt, all they're ensuring is that they won't be there to _see_ his pain.

I really feel like Denji rips my heart out every time. he's clearly looking for some sort of emotional fulfillment... something to make him feel actually loved. and through Denji's eyes, you can almost believe that Makima would be the one to give it to him. but then you remember her status, and the way she treats people because of it. the way she's compared him to a dog before, and the way she's forcing him to put himself in danger by going after the gun devil. nothing she has to offer Denji is free, and none of it is truly sentimental. it makes it feel like Denji is just chasing the ghost of what he wishes was there. and nobody around him is capable of stepping up and giving him a better alternative.

@@Jev_the_fluorescent_shrimp he does, but you can sort of see the pervasive alienation interrupting in bits and pieces. Power isn't really sentimental in the way that Denji seems to want in his quieter moments, and at this point I feel like Aki hasn't yet had a true connecting moment. he's shown care in bits and pieces, like how he intercepted the knife when Kobeni tried to stab Denji, or with the way he's been patient about Denji being in his home... and you can tell he's a sentimental person, but he and Denji haven't really _talked_ like... in the kind of way that reveals their deeper wants. I feel like Makima has monopolized a lot of those deeper conversations with Denji... she's really been trying to tell Denji everything he wants to hear, promising it all to him if he'll just do all the impossible things she asks. and Himeno feels like such an open wound of a person. she cares about Aki, and it literally kills her. you can tell that she's most scared of the possibility that he'll die first, and she'll actually have to bear the weight of grief for him. but grief is something that Aki doesn't avoid... he's not unfeeling about people dying. meanwhile, I think Himeno has only made it this far by numbing herself. and then Aki comes along and makes that impossible. she can't help but care about him. and the real catch-22 of their circumstances, is that everyone who is left without care feels like they're constantly neglected and yearning, but everyone who cares feels like they're constantly afraid of how much it will hurt when they lose it all. there's really no comfort for them.

This show loves playing with people's moral compass. Like at 9:10 you almost were happy that Himeno was going to help Denji get with Makima, but then you remember the age gap because the show acknowledges it unlike other anime and shonen where things like that are trivial. This show is UNMATCHED UNPARALELED.

Himeno herself is also part of the roller coaster of expectations, because what she's doing with Denji almost manages to seem cute... that little "banzai" thing she had him do so she could get his shirt off was almost really sweet and adorable, but then you kind of remember how drunk she is, and how much of a kid Denji is, and how Himeno has already basically shown that she only really cares about Aki... she's just using Denji because he's easy. he's young, and he might've just let her do whatever she wanted. but Denji can tell that, just like with Power's "payment" for saving Meowy, this probably won't mean anything if they do it. Denji has his sights set on Makima because she convinced him that it _would_ mean something if he did it with her. the question is: would it really?

@@imo098765 I mean... that's a take, sure. I know you're probably just joking, and that's fine, but I wanna keep talking about Himeno, so I'm just gonna ramble a bit... I think Himeno is so well written because they manage to make her so flawed and so sympathetic at the same time. you can tell that all she really wants is Aki, but there are barriers to that... not the least of which is her own fear of how much she cares about him. it feels like she's trying to lean in and pull away at the same time... she can't help caring about him, but she's also experienced so much grief already... she knows Aki's death would hurt her really badly. so she's basically using Denji as a stand in, _because_ she doesn't have to care about him. so if they did it, Denji wouldn't be satisfied because Himeno is just using him, and Himeno wouldn't be satisfied because Denji isn't Aki. the fact that Himeno is also technically taking advantage of an intoxicated minor comes off more like a symptom of how broken down she is, rather than a sign that she's just an evil person. this is damaged behavior. she clearly didn't start this way... the job fucked her up. so when she sacrifices herself to save Aki... it's still tragic, even though we _just_ saw her do something really morally questionable that could've made us hate her. it all ties together. the fact that she's experienced the deaths of so many of her partners is both the reason why she can't care about Denji, and the reason why caring about Aki hurts her so much that she'd rather die first. she's grieved so much already that when Aki is threatened, she takes matters into her own hands and decides it's her turn to go. she decides she's not going to live in a world where he's dead. even if he ends up dead anyway, she'll be gone before she knows that. the job has taken everything from her, to the point where there is literally nothing left of her in the end.

@@anonisnoone6125 if sex was actually all Denji wanted, maybe... but when Power let him touch her boobs, he technically got exactly what he wanted, yet was completely dissatisfied. I think part of why he didn't just go for it with Himeno is because he's learned that stuff like this can be dissatisfying due to a lack of emotional connection for him. unfortunately, he thinks that Makima is the one with the ability to give him what he's really after. she's succeeding in manipulating him by convincing him that she's the only one with the answer to his problems. he doesn't just want sex, he wants intimacy. and he thinks Makima understands what he wants, and will give him that. the problem is that, if she really cared about him, she wouldn't put him through all this. Denji isn't finding what he really wants from anyone yet.

Katana man is one of my favourite characters, being a perfect foil to Denji. He grew up in luxury from the Yakuza while Denji grew up in poverty from Yakuza. His precise strikes mirror Denji's chaotic swipes and even his hybrid shows this down to his teeth being even and denji's csm being spiked. his and Akane's intro (snake girl with the '97 Jordans), and the events transpiring in this episode, impact the entirety of the series. This is definitely one of my favourite sections in ALL of CSM. It sets the precendent for how the rest of the show is going to be

I've finished the manga months ago, but I have to say that this episode was amazing! It starts with a "funny" scene (well, not very funny but at least nobody died). Then the chaos begins when Makima got shot! When I was reading the manga I was totally confused! And that new character...the "Katana Man"...damn, he was so unexpected! Himeno's dead made me cry in the manga 😢I reallt thought she was going to be a very important character but she died so suddenly...next episodes are going to be fire. You know what? As a manga reader it does not matter if we're at the same "point" of the story. Every week it feels so good to see people revive the same emotions you lived in the past, even if it was through a different medium, and appreciate how uniquely this amazing story unfolds. It is a genuine pleasure that you appreciate it. And it feels good that, in most of the cases, the manga community is taking a LOT of effort in order not to spoil it to anime only viewers. Fujimoto created an intense story about the meaning of trauma, and it blows my mind that he was only 26 whenever he started to publish and craft the world of Chainsaw man. So well: welcome on board; as a lot of manga readers said, the real shit starts now. Enjoy the ride!

What i love about the Himeno "sex" scene is it acts as a red flag for Makima. If a woman expresses remorse for almost exploiting a minor while she was DEAD drunk, what does that say about Makima, the supposed more proffesional woman between the two who constantly seduces the said minor, fully sober, and promises him sex for doing her favors? Chainsaw Man just started and things are about to get even more dark. Awesome video as aways!

it actually says one of two things... either she's planning on doing something even more irresponsible than Himeno but like... intentionally. or, she was never planning on giving him what she promised. whether that means that she's flat out lying, or if it means that she thinks she's assigned him an impossible task... maybe she knows that he can't defeat the gun devil, but until he does, she can use him for all sorts of things. either way, it shows that Makima is not to be trusted. not by any means. especially since Denji clearly wants actual romantic attraction between himself and another person, and I really can't see Makima ever being sincere with him.

Unlike the other animes where animators only put more of their work into the action scene and leave the non action aside. I don't blame all the animators for making bad animation. I know that making an anime is a very hard job. I respected all the works. More or less depends on how much energy they have put.

some context: fujimoto wanted to serialize chainsaw man through shonen jump so he built the series up with a basic shonen structure; (comedy, a little bit of ecchi, etc) kinda comparable to jjk. Denji and Itadori are both the kinda crazy impulsive mc, megumi and aki are the “emo” serious character, power and kugisaki are like the main female character, etc. But basically he built it up to be a particularly shōnen manga and then just threw it all away and went crazy with his imagination.

Denji is probably indeed horny, but also he looks lost and even vulnerable, and he obviously doesn't feel good because of alcohol he didn't even want to consume. Aki's katana is a nail and his curse devil ability. Its origin is probably "Ushi no toki mairi". It is one of the famous curse that has been passed down from ancient times in Japan. First, prepare a doll made of straw. Then, every night, he drives a 5-inch nail into the doll. And cast a curse on the hated opponent. So are JJK's Novara weapons and fighting style.

As someone who has read the manga, this won’t be the last time you’re gonna feel like this. Chainsaw man has a scene which I believe is the most emotional scene in all of anime and manga and if it gets this same treatment it’ll be a 100/10.

the chainsaw man hype of 2022 reminds me of the tokyo ghoul hype of 2014 i remember thinking anime couldnt look much better than that, in a way i kinda feel sad for people who didnt watch tokyo ghoul back then, it did definetely age well, but people who have already watched demon slayer, jujutsu, chainsaw man, and others like that, wont be as blown away by TG as we were back then, still, i hope he reacts to it one day, chainsaw man gives me the same vibe, and this ending by TK, holy cow, this sounds so nostalgic, i cant believe its been almost 10 years (i started the tg manga 1 year before the anime)

I can't fathom how it's gotta be to be anime only after this episode with all the questions waiting for next weeks episode, I read the manga when the first arc was fully written already so I just kept reading and reading and reading, and even with knowing what happens, I'm still on the edge of my seat through all this. Fujimoto deserves to be remembered as an exceptional author and storyteller and Mappa is doing an exceptional job bringing his story to life.

SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE EPISODE YET! I was literally mouth agape, speechless from the point where Himeno gives herself over to the Ghost devil, all the way till the end of the episode. I knew it was coming, and they still blew my expectations out of the water. Everything was perfect. The animation, the music, the cinematography. CSM EP 8 has already gone down as one of, if not, my favorite episode of anime I've ever watched. And knowing everything else that's to come with part 1 of CSM, I'm sure I'll have plenty of new favorite episodes of all time coming. Mappa really has outdone their work on every other show they've ever done. I'm particularly astounded by the fact that they've even surpassed their work on JJK with CSM. I don't know how they did it, but in 8 episodes they've cemented themselves as the best animation studio on the market right now to me. What they've done with cg animation in particular is incredible. They've gotten it to the point with their shading and compositing where you can't even tell it's cg in some parts. I'm calling it now that CSM will be Mappa's magnum opus. It's already one of the greatest manga I've ever read, but it's getting one of the best adaptations I've ever seen as well. I know they've made some changes from the manga, but this episode in particular has put any misgivings I might've had to rest. Mappa knows what the hell they're doing, and I'm more than happy to sit along for the ride.

Chainsaw man and Mappa have set the new bar for not just anime shows but also anime movies with the cinematography and the attention to detail with every scene with the blood drips, zippers, frame shots with off music, camera angles, slow smoothly animated scenes. It’s ability to grab the viewers attention with tension with what will happen

It's a shame we didn't get to see more of Himeno, but we all knew that this was coming. I suspect most of the characters die in this show, just hope they'll all have more time for me to actually be sad about. I only knew Himeno for 3 episodes.

Finally an anime that quite literally shows what dangerous/suicide job is like, build a character that we can get attach to then mornin gets up eat breakfast, chat with friends, waves goodbye with familly, then 5 minutes later the characters dead. But its not a normal deaths in animes, its a suprise one that we actaully feel something for the char. (unlike the type of AkamegaKill, deaths basically reused horribly just to build a name for it)

Every time you hear “shinanaide” in an anime you know that it’s going to make you cry hard I read the manga about like 1,5 years ago?? and from that point I knew that it’s going to be my fave manga because it works like THIS. I was so nervous about this episode because it is a real pivotal moment of the whole story and despite knowing what was about to happen I was screaming the entire way. Happy you’re reacting to it like really I empathize you so much every second of the video❤️

I really feel you man. Whenever you watch or read something as soon as it comes out with everyone else, it just feels special. This is already amazing, but the fact that we're experiencing it together for the first time highlights how amazing this episode was. It might be because I'm new to this genre, but when I read the manga, I didn't think it deserved the hype that it got. I definitely loved it, but I couldn't get myself to give it higher than 8, maybe even 7 out of 10. But episode by episode, it feels like this anime is just taking my shit opinion and slapping me in the face with it. It's not just the story or the characters. It's the animation, the direction, the music, the intro, the outros... everything in this anime is a masterpiece. Of course, there are people that suffered to make this happen, and that is unfortunate. But more than anything else, you can't help but appreciate the blood, sweat and tears that went into creating this. I am absolutely stunned by what I was shown today, and even if I was thoroughly impressed by the anime so far, and even if I already knew what would happen since I read the manga, none of those things could've prepared me for how masterfully this episode was crafted.
