I bought this toothpaste from my local Korean supermarket here in Australia, and I actually liked it! it's not that bad and it feels more 'powerful' than regular toothpaste. I've also tried the pine needle one and it also was fine. I find it amusing that it's made by LG, cause usually when I think of LG I think of electronic goods :)

I found that exact same brand while shopping at a local Korean-Oriental market (shop owner is Korean, and most products there are from Korea.) "LG Household and Healthcare brand Jook Yeom White Tea with Bamboo Salt." The one I bought is for the American market, so the ingredients are in English. It has tea in it according to the ingredients list, but I'm skeptical as to whether is actually has bamboo salt in it (and I haven't been able to find the technical/scientific name for it -- maybe a techy name doesn't exist yet.) Anyway, the flavor or version I got didn't taste rotten at all; in fact, it tasted more minty, and has a light green gel color and consistency. In other words, it's a lot like what I'd expect from traditional/Western toothpaste. Maybe it's just a different flavor or formula, but I know it's the same brand, just packaged for the English-speaking market. I think the odd taste comes from the fact that bamboo salt baked 9 times has the characteristic odor and taste of egg yolk. I think that might be why it's throwing them off so much! xD At any rate, bamboo salt has amazing health benefits, and is probably one of Korea's best-kept beauty and health secrets.

I agree that Bamboo salt tooth paste doesn't taste good. People use because Bamboo salt is known as the best material for tooth health. When you have toothache, 9 times baked Bamboo salt reduces your pain soon only placing the salt on it. It has a natural strong sterilizing power though the taste is baked egg shell.

It's weird though, I saw another video about a girl showing the standard Korean beauty ideals and she said teeth were not very important and that they think it's crazy what we pay for dental work/whitening etc. So which is more true?

I find it amusing that Americans disapprove of plastic surgery yet turn around and spend money on teeth whitening/straightening. Isn't either option changing the way you naturally look? Such a double standard.
@oxmarlenaxo
@oxmarlenaxo 10 жыл бұрын
Well not exactly, as everyone technically has white teeth but due to decay/discoloring it changes. They frown on plastic surgery because it is changing the features that you were born with and making you look like, in many cases, a different person. Most of the plastic surgery that Americans frown upon is botox, as it 95% of the time looks awful.

That's totally bizarre to me. Korean people have some of the NICEST teeth I have ever seen. They brush their teeth ALL the time, wear braces, go to the dentist, and some people get whitening! From what I've seen, people in Japan tend to have crooked teeth even in the celebrity scene (especially J-pop) , so maybe they were thinking Japan??

Omg I can't believe you replied to my post!! ahhhhhhh!! And I'm not sure. It was the video "Are you beautiful in Korea" and she said according to her friend in Korea that teeth aren't as important in terms of beauty. So I'm not sure....maybe it was just the opinion of her friend.

But bamboo salt is good for your gum. I know because I have really sensitive gum, and I easily get gingivitis often when Im under stress or exhausted. When you have gingivitis your gum gets red and swollen, which make it not only painful on its own, but it also makes eating difficult. After brushing my teeth with bamboo salt toothpaste, I feel instant relief of my swellon gum. I dont know the science behind it, buy it works for sure. I really recommend it to anyone with sensitive gum.

Regarding the tingly feeling you get after brushing your teeth: the tingly feeling is used to make people think their toothpaste is being effective, even though the part that makes your mouth feel tingly is not at all related to efficacy. It's just a marketing tactic ^^

@malignantbassist
@malignantbassist 10 жыл бұрын
simon is actually right. The reason why toothpaste leaves that tingly feeling is because of the chemical that causes toothpaste to froth, and not because of the flavoring. It also blocks the nerves that sense sweetness and activate the ones that sense bitter, which is why orange juice tastes bad after brushing your teeth.

I'm from Korea and up until my mother's generation (she grew up in a rural area in Korea) they actually brushed their teeth with JUST salt. They did not have access to modern toothpastes - either they didn't sell it there or was too expensive. I think that's why Korea now has salty toothpastes!

@GayNeekOG
@GayNeekOG 10 жыл бұрын
It does taste weird even to someone who used it for years. I mainly had to use that one because my mouth was too sensitive for generic toothpastes in America. There are mint toothpastes... I remember using them so stop telling lies +Eat Your Kimchi, though that was like 6 years ago, so who knows they could have gotten rid of it. probably have to go to Costco or something to get them, but It still won't be the same since Korea has probably different limits on chemicals.

I use this and it's actually not as bad as it's mentioned here. My gums used to be really unhealthy. Meaning they were red and swollen and that my gums would bleed every time I brush them. However, after using this for a about a week, my gums began turning pink and they didn't bleed anymore, which is quite impressive because I've tried all sorts of gum care toothpastes sold locally in Singapore and none of them seem to work for me.

It's really not as "nasty" as you guys make it out to be...like c'mon. Once you start using this regularly, you don't even taste it anymore. Rolling my eyes...

There are different flavors/scents of toothpastes.. I know I used a strawberry gum flavored toothpaste when I was young. It really depends on what your parents get as you grow up. Apparently, Suzy's parents thought a bamboo salt toothpaste was good for their oral health (and it actually is, as widely known in Korea), and they've been using it.

The tingly sensation is intentional so you feel like your teeth are much cleaner than if you used a competitors product without the additive. Of course pretty much all brands use this technique so it's kinda obsolete. I can't remember what the ingredient is but it causes some reaction that makes your gums tingle and nothing else.
