Basically, Katakuri's application of observation Haki confirms what Rayleigh told Luffy. Excluding Conqueror's Haki, the two forms can be trained/ everyone will find they are better in one form than the other. We do not know the extent of Katakuri's fighting strength, but I assume his Armament Haki is quite strong, but even so I suspect his observation is much stronger. And when you consider Vergo, his armament Haki was very strong as well. As for Shanks, I could see something similiar to where, it isn't Shanks slowing down time. Rather, it is him slowing his own perception of time to where he can process the movements of everyone and in turn react accordingly.

+Matt Gray Yup, that bit while filler, honestly is in my head canon and makes me think that Rayleigh is easily in the one Billion plus range. But also, I am happy that Oda finally decided to do something about Observation Haki. I like Armament Haki as everyone else, but man it got repeititive seeing every top tier fighter just being specialized in it. And here, we got someone who as you said has no doubt a fearsome armament Haki, but clearly chose to specialize in observation Haki. I'm hoping we see this with the SH pirates in the future. Maybe, there is a ultra specialized armament Haki for Zoro and same for Sanji. A tactical vision to see weak points? And as for Luffy, I'm picturing that his next power-up WILL be Haki based. Everyone says, Awakening or gears. Those are fine, but I feel like that would be too soon. Having something like a better observation Haki would actually make a ton of sense for Luffy due to being a very flexible combatant(pun intended) and being able to think on his feet. Because, yeah; his overall defenses might be not up to snuff. BUT that hardly matters if he sees the attack coming and can respond accordingly. :)

That Luffy moment vs Mihawk is always how Observation Haki users perceive fights, they subtly mind read to get a premonition of the future. Dogtooth's ability however refers to the fact that he can see the future in non combat situations, as in he sees the general immediate future as event based and future actions, not just fight based.

Enel had such adept Observation Haki that he could not only foresee the future (several hours in advance if I recall), but actually hear people from like 10km+ away. Enel has so far had the greatest observation haki in the series shown so far. What did Luffy do to overcome it? He had to use random attacks. Is it a coincidence that Luffy, who has fought someone who could foresee the future would be a decoy to this wedding that involves someone foreseeing the future? I think not.

Technically we got this future seeing stuff in Skypiea, in Enel. I feel like it was first explained there, and then hinted at a lot since in explaining how Observation Haki works. We also know that Luffy can use it to a degree as well as he used it in Romance Dawn 2 to dodge fake-luffy's bullet and the Kuma robot's beam attacks. It just seems like Katakuri's is so advanced that he can see further into the future and brag about it like Enel and his crew.

that thing with luffy in Marineford was a really good point but what I thought of was that there's another SH that has shown that he can unconsciously predict the future and has also shown that he can use Observation Haki. You know who I'm talking about :)

Im starting to wonder about the bounties. Whitebeard was the strongest man alive but it seemed as his crew were weaker than the other yonkos subordinates. I just dont get the same vibe from marco as i get from katakuri. It seems like katakuri or even jack is way stronger than marco or the rest of whitebeards commanders. The power level between admirals and yonko/their subordinates seem weird.

for conqueror/kings haki if there is a second level I think it'd be the ability to implant an idea or take control of some opponents. Like maybe the fact that garp hid ace was also due to Roger using the next level of the haki to make him do it. . . Though if there even is a next stage it also could be the ability to hear the voice of all things. . .

Reading this chapter made me think of how versatile observation haki is, Eneru's enhanced his hearing so much that he could "hear" everyone's thoughts (same with cody), Ussop can see VERY far and through walls and Dogtooth now has the ability to "see" the future in some way or another, that is really interesting to me, what are the possibilities? super enhanced smell? touching something to "feel" past events? It just straight up enhances someone's senses for better information intake in one way or another, but can you choose which sense or how is the sense modified? What are your thoughts man?
