Wow. I didn't think I could be more impressed with this movie. That is so incredible that so much of it was so close to real life. What an amazing feat of writing, acting, and direction. Truly one of the best films of all time.

So there was roughly 13 minutes(the runtime of this video) of the entire 2 hour and 9 minute movie, covered in this video. And that is "so much". 10% of the movie, in your mind, is "so much". One tenth. And even some of this video was off, and they said so in the video. And still it is "so much". One of the real people that were depicted in the movie even sued over the inaccuracies. And still, in your mind, it is "so much". They took one person and replaced him throughout the entire movie, with a completely and totally different person. And yet, in your mind it is "so much". What? Next thing you are going to do is call it a documentary? Go read a book!

Something not mentioned here is Raging Bull is really a testament to the great director Elia Kazan in many ways. Very similar to On the Waterfront. He was even thanked and in person during the oscars. The very ending of Raging Bull Robert Deniro quoted Marlon Brandos famous I could have been a contender line.

Nice video! But for me, I find this film insanely overrated. Unlike other Scorcese films this one has no likable or memorable characters other than Jake for the wrong reasons. De Niro’s performance is great nonetheless but his character himself is one of the most unlikable and intolerable characters I’ve ever seen in a film. The film itself in insanely boring and forgettable and I can rewatch many of Scorcese’s films but not this one. I’ve seen it once and never had a drive to see it again because I had so little enjoyment out of it. Save for as I said De Niro and the rest of the casts acting (especially Pesci) and a few nicely shot boxing scenes this film is a doozy IMO.

I don’t see him as the destroyer of his relationships. His wife was “friendly” with just about everyone, including his brother. While Jake was unbalanced and abusive, he didn’t cause that to occur. Interesting language choices. "even after years of marital strife" or "couldn't handle his instability anymore". The movie's focus is clearly on Lamotta, and it doesn't hide his violence, but those particular choices in phrasing really undermine the violence towards his wife. This wasn't "marital strife", this was years of ongoing physical abuse, and obviously mental abuse, at the hands of someone who was specifically trained, practiced and well known for their fighting ability, viciousness, and physical dominance. In trying to come across as apolitical, the attempt itself is political.

_Raging Bull_ is 3 hours spent with characters who *deserve* to be punched in the face. A film to be appreciated aesthetically but a sadomasochistic exercise otherwise.

Scorsese's strength has always been making repulsive characters at least sympathetic. Raging bull was a big challenge but I think he succeeded here more than not

My uncle had me watch this movie and claimed it was one of the greatest of all time. I found it to be highly overrated just like Blade runner.
