@@steamedhamlet You have to watch it to understand it... Knowing the FULL FACTS behind the story makes it understandable why it was "Dramatised" in the manner it was... As the reality is MORE UNBELIEVEABLE than the actual film... ...In addition, it also gets people to look into and understand a deeply disturbing crime that many would otehrwise never have heard of! I have an ineterst in True Crime Stories.. 10 Rillington Place is a Favourite movie of mine despite covering one of the most sadistic bastards ever here in the UK, Namely Reginald Christie - Landlord, Back Street Abortionist and Necorphilliac Rapist! A deeply disturbing Story, but one few know about sadly... Which they should - While it is decades ago, Police can still struggle even now when faced with a clever opponant to find a criminal and bring them to justice... And Christie WAS CLEVER - He convinced the Fiancee of one of his victims that he would HANG for his Girlfirends death... And he did! The wrong man was hung and psthumously pardoned AFTER MORE BODIES were found! It may seem sick for people to get entertainment out of a movie such as Pain and Gain, but I woudl never have even knwn about The Sun Gym Gang had it not been for this movies existence... Think about it that way! It draws attention to Heinous Criminal Acts that others may otherwise ignore or never know about.

Of the Michael Bay films that I've seen (almost all of them...), *Pain and Gain* is the only one, in my opinion, that's actually kind of truly great. Whenever I get into a discussion with someone about "underrated films", I always cite this one. My read on Bay as a filmmaker is kind of a minority opinion, but I feel that he is actually an incredibly gifted director of comedy. He clearly enjoys allowing his cast to improvise, and this results in what I feel are many very very funny moments in nearly all his films ("Pearl Harbor", a distinctly unfunny film, being the exception, and the only one of his films that I outright dislike, and that's including all the various absurd- and in my opinion hilariously funny- "Transformers" films.) If we're just talking about raw cinematic skill, I sincerely feel he's actually better at directing comedy than action. Again though, I understand mine is a minority opinion.

Florida Sunshine laws make it easy as fuck to pull up crime records on any criminal act. I think a few other states have similar laws, but every state has BATSHIT INSANITY going on daily, Florida just makes no effort to hide it, (hence the name "sunshine" as in "shining a little light makes all the dirty critters scurry away" or something like that lol I butchered it i admit) if anything "Florida-man" stories should be renamed "slow day for news", but then again that would make journalists look bad..... so Florida man goes UNDER THE BUS!!!!) and makes it easy to report on. I still like this movie. Here's a few things. 1. In the movie you see Doorbal get upset after hearing the sentence. In reality Doorbal really didn't care he just talked to his gf during the trial. Also I know this wasn't mentioned in the movie, however the lawyers for The Sun Gym gang never once asked questions to the witnesses on the stand, or objected to any of the questions by the prosecution. Also Lugo is or was afraid of Doorbal in real life. He also claims Doorbal is a true psychopath/sociopathy. Also Lugo and Doorbal were suppose to get new trials to determine if they get the death penalty.

This is honestly the best film Michael Bay has made since The Rock and Bad Boys.

I hate how funny the movie is considering the horror of the real crime. The dialogue and acting amongst the main cast is so fucking hilarious

Well worth seeking out Mark Kermode's review of this as one of the most despicable movies ever made...

I was going to comment this. I love his righteous vitriol. There has to be some measure of subtlely and art when dealing with a true story. Michael Bay isn't that smart.

Knowing all of this ... I still think nick cassvettes ( sorry for typo) or joe carnahan should’ve directed this. With nick or Matthew carnahan writing the script. Writers of captain America trilogy and avengers 3&4 were so outta the league with this.

It really wasn't right that they vilified the victim and made light of what was, as wacky as it may have been, a horrible tragedy involving real evil. Also, those Sun Gym guys, for steroid abusers, were barely more muscular than the average man, if that. I didn't see anyone that was even in Wahlberg's league, let alone The Rock.
