I just received the SOLOKING acura pro HICC50 for only $69 and for that reel it is a solid performer. I also own Shimano BFS both have a place. I can now cast under a gram with the soloking.

The over braked reel makes it not worth it. Drag clicker is very low too. But glad they dropped the price. Looking forward to see what they drop in 2024.. Hopefully not the Valiant Eagle 2, which is a lower end model of the Kestrel Elite.

You can get a jdm alphas air or aldebaran for just a little bit more than the kestrel.. the kestrel is over braked according to everyone who has fished one, it’s made more for throwing 3.5g and up.

I have seen this several times and I will say it bombs every single bfs bait I own. I may not be throwing like 1/64th or whatever but I have no issues throwing all the Megabass lures made for bfs

I tried the Zephyr and sent it back the next day. Just doesn't compare with Daiwa or Shimano. Hopefully KastKing can get it right at some point.

To be honest to me it should be around the $125 to $150 reel. I wasn’t that impressed with the Zephyr to be honest and the other on the water reviews I have seen with this reel was my deciding factor in not buying it. I spent a little more and got the Diana Gekkibijin. I know the two reels are worlds apart. But honestly unless they fix the over breaking issue with the Kestrel I doubt that I will ever own one. Kast King has the potential to make great BFS gear. They just need to listen to the anglers that use their products. I want to thank you for your review of this reel. Also most people that I know that use this reel remove 1 magnet and still use zero breaks when using a 1/16oz jig.

Kestrel isn’t a bad reel, a set of roro hybrid bearings solved the over braking problem for me. I keep it on a travel rod in my truck for spontaneous trips

Being magnesium, think it’ll hold up to the salt? How’s the zephyr holding up? I’ve used it in canals for bass and it throws spinners nice, going to try it in salt with a DOA shrimp later this week, worried about it in salt

Chinese have 115gr, 117gr, 118gr BFS reels from PURELURE, TAIGEK and HISTAR. But the Kestrel is amazing reel.

IMO, If the brakes cannot handle the weight you will get bird nests very quickly, turning the fishing sesh into a nightmare

sadly kinda over brake, i set my to 0 (zero) still minmal over run or no backlash at all, which good for beginner baitcast user but for me it hinder my distance when i need to reach certain spot
