Tyler Perry's films frequently explore common themes, including: 1. The portrayal of women who have experienced verbal or physical abuse. 2. The presence of untrustworthy and harmful male characters. 3. The depiction of abusive maternal figures. 4. The abused women eventually forming romantic relationships with attractive and caring men.

The issue I had with the movie is it was unrealistic and didn't make much sense. For example the character Ava came from a loving home, had a loving father in the home, and lived in a nice home/neighborhood. And Dallas was just mean. He was mean, didn't have money, couldn’t please her sexually. So I was just trying to figure out why in the hell would a pretty woman like her who came from a loving privileged background be with a man like that. It made absolutely no sense. I could see if Dallas was super charming, funny, sweet, and, great in bed, or had money. But he was shown to be none of those things. So that was highly unrealistic and never made any sense. Lastly she had been with Dallas mean evil ass for years and never left but after spending a week over her parents home and watching a old homade video of herself younger, she's changed, happier, rejuvenated and all. 😂😂 GTFOOH, it was just missing too much, Tyler has this thing where he uses the character dialog to explain why a character is the way they are rather than showing it and letting the audience see it. I wanted to see Dallas father abusing his mother and him shooting his father in a flashback over hearing Dallas say it in a druken fit of rage. It was so much that Tyler could've done, but didn't.
@HeitCheri5 ай бұрын
Well I do think it was realistic that Ava and Dallas got together because I'm sure that Dallas wasn't like that from the beginning. I'm sure he was charming while he was trying to win her heart. Also, Dallas clearly had traumas and Ava was from a family that was constantly dealing with broken people in their ministry. I'm sure she thought she could help fix him, but his issues were far too deep for a loving wife alone to turn his dysfunction around.
@PrettyEyesz5 ай бұрын
@HeitCheri And I understand that, but I wish Tyler would've shown it. But perhaps he chose not to because he already knew he was going to kill Dallas character anyway.

I'm digging the new rating chart! Please keep this going. After calculating, my overall rating was a 4.6...and I was actually generous with the Acting category because honestly everyone's acting was pretty average, I think we're finally seeing that our valued seasoned Actors/Actresses actually carry one dimensional skillsets. Our culture gets so stuck on what was that person's best/famous role and then continues to type-cast them in that same pot, role after role, to the point where it stunts their craft. Also, Heit, please consider putting a writing/script category!

I was waiting for your prospective on this film. This isn't the most terrible film that Tyler Perry has created. My problem with this film and many other films he produces is the fact that the characters are super villain evil all the time. It isn't realistic. The amount of abuse that Ava endured with the support system she had, I feel she wouldn't have stayed as long as she did. Especially when I take into account how quickly she was able to move on. Dallas had no charm. He was this evil all day every day, and she just accepted it.

Multiple things can be true at one time. Absolutely we are proud of what mr Perry has been able to create for himself in the movie and television industry and there have been hits and misses in his projects. I remember my parents going to visit friends and were shown the VHS or DVD plays of Tyler Perry as Madea. I've never liked any of them but my parents did. His tv shows that were supposed to be comedy weren't funny to me and you could clearly hear the laugh tracks.but I did in the beginning enjoy the 2tv series he did for OWN THE HAVE AND THE HAVE NOTS and IF LOVING YOU IS WRONG but eventually both shows got dark entirely too sexual and lots of cussing.. The man who quoted scripture I no longer saw in Perry and a much more deliberately aggressive and perhaps comfortable and assured Boss appeared who didn't care what anyone thought of his work because he was going to show us exactly what interested him and some say turned him on.i remember literal R*pe scenes in THE HAVE AND THE HAVE NOTS against men in prison and it was so detailed I couldn't watch it anymore than his costar the beautiful ms Tika Sumpter in a scene was being brutally beat in her face and I just couldn't support his projects and I felt some kind of way about his character and lack of care with what he offered as art on film. It really comes across that mr Perry couldn't care less to what he visually feeds the Black community when it comes to films and perhaps he doesn't have to but I'll never watch anything he's affiliated with and when I heard he's possibly involved in the 3rd SISTER ACT I'm sorry I guess I won't be seeing that either. But anyone ever wonder why hasn't any of his actors gotten big roles from other directors or producers, they may have gotten a big payoff with Perry but no one else will touch them.
@flyleelee53515 ай бұрын
The movie should've opened with Dallas as a child and the moment his mother made him kill his father. Then cut to Ava as adult in this marriage. Make Dallas have some redeeming qualities but hes still abusive because of his traumatic childhood (which the audience doesn't know yet)... Let the abuse be subtle. Mental. No body is that bad all the damn time. And Tyler could've still kept the funeral scene, and it would've tied into the unfolding narrative that Dallas' mother was causing his abusive behavior and it would tie into her pattern of forcing her kids to do crazy shit, including the one who was robbing. Her taking off her clothes to hand them back to Ava's mother made no sense, he could've left that out. But, I'm not the writer so...🤷🏽♀️😂

I agree that Jurnee Smollet is a stronger actress than Meagan Good. She just brings the intensity in everything she does no matter how big or small the role. She's amazing and so underrated.

Divorce in the black was a line in the movie he made the title. I'm not sure if I like the movie yet.

I just told someone that Queen Sugar and Greenleaf has great writing compared to Tyler Perry's tv shows and movies.
