Mr Macleod has a lot of well based views, however, he may overestimate the UK and underestimate America. the UK is much farther down the path to decline. China is selling dollars because they need to bring in wealth. It is China's only option with its economy imploding.

The Ukrainian incursion into Kursk was motivated by Ukraine and the west believing the Russian military was degraded to the point Russia would need to move troops from the Donbas front to fight in Kursk. Russia had enough forces to not need to stop the offensive to Pokrovsk. The reality is coming home the conflict is not fought with popular opinion.

What about the possibility of the U.S. government issuing a digital currency that "resets" the dollar? After the oil crisis in 1979, Mexico experienced many years of inflation and debt defaults, leading to the replacement of the currency with the ‘nuevo peso’, also called ‘new peso’ - MXN. The new peso was valued at 1000 of the previous Mexican peso, MXP.

It is important to consider the possibility that lower rates will not produce a stronger economy. We only need to look at Japan to see the proof an economy is about far more than just interest rates. Feeding into this is the Fed's limited ability to directly determine rates at the long end of the curve. While lower rates have almost been guaranteed and promised, we should never forget that liquidity is far more important. A recent AdvancingTime blog delves deeper into this subject.

I keep wondering whether fiat currency and government go together, because it allows government to smooth out the bad times by borrowing from the good and thus the governing class can justify their existence. And the problem with this is that the good times are in the future and our governing class wear rose coloured specs with their vew of it. Their mistakes are someone elses problem in the future but they get the benefit now. Human nature?

Here's the thing though, if Russia has interest rates at 18% because nobody trusts the ruble, that makes sense and a logical response would be a gold standard because there's nothing not to trust about gold itself, but what about the 'standard', ie if you don't trust the ruble why would you trust the Russians to stay on the gold standard and not close their gold window like NIxon did back in the early 70s?
@haze11232 күн бұрын
Great guest but we need better follow-up questions. For example: If it's obvious and easy for Russia to launch a gold-backed currency, WHY would anyone trust their self-reported gold reserves?

instilling trust in your citizens that their currency CAN be swapped for real money at any time and that it is not being devalued in their pockets is key to preventing a gold run on a gold-backed currency.

Digital silver in a digital age, litecoin is a digital precious metal, not a security. Litecoin is the oldest coin on the market after bitcoin, since its inception in 2011. The scarcity of litecoin is the key feature of its technology. Everyone tends to flock to digital silver and digital gold, litecoin, and bitcoin, when things aren't going well. Litecoin is a decentralized digital commodity, just like bitcoin, but not even close so heavily concentrated in a few hands like bitcoin is. Both have Proof-of-Work consensus, and both have a limited supply of coins. Only that litecoin is lighter, swifter, and hugely undervalued against bitcoin. Litecoin (LTC) being a digital commodity provides a decent inflation hedge as well because there will be mined only a limited number of 84 million litecoins in total.
@alekm6057Күн бұрын
False we only need foreigners to buy Tbills and Bonds because it helps pension funds when they need to sell them. The US government will always be able to borrow and spend money if it wants to because the FED can buy Tbills and TBonds with money that doesn’t exist until they spend it.

Not many reasons why that is so.........As Anthony says , Gold at record " Fiat prices " and nobody seems to care well the top does not want us to wake up to it ........just guessing ;-) Who s been scooping up the tons ??
