This really shouldn't be the norm especially for these Gear 5 eps. All that filler and "budget saving techniques" that Toei has been using for years still showing up even for the Gear 5 eps has really been disappointing to see as it messes up the momentum, pacing, and hype that Gear 5 carries compared to the manga especially for memorable Gear 5 moments that don't carry the same energy or feel compared to the manga.

I think while it is understandable to expect something to change for gear 5 I also think it’s a bit unfair to be mad when they’re doing what they’ve been always doing since 1999. Let’s not forget most of Zoro vs King looked like slideshow animation up until 1062, just let Toei cook and let’s see how the entire fight looks when it’s finished. 1072 is already on par with 1061 and it’s just the beginning. Compared to every other fight so far, luffy vs kaido might have the best animation if we get something on 1062’s level as the gear 5 fight goes on. Just think about it, ever since 1015 it’s been heat with luffy vs kaido and we’ve already got multiple episodes that have been on par with 1062 and 1061 and if we get a full episode that’s an actual 10/10 like 1062 at the end luffy vs kaido will officially become the best animated fight in one piece.

It had the best staff out every one piece episode ( excluding the director ) although they did great it was nothing epic/legendary like zoro vs king . The next eps for sure will be good but don't expect them to be zoro vs king level because toei used up most of their sakuga animators on 1072 and luffy vs kaido for the next chapters is mid at best its litterally gonna be a single haki clash that spans out for 3 episodes .Am surprised at how the ep 1072 had the best storyboarders but they still couldn't even elevate the source material

Storyboard-wise, this episode feels inferior to the manga and previous episodes in terms of keyframing and poses. In the manga, there's a certain dramatic focus when we go back to Luffy v. Kaidou, and Luffy is suddenly holding a lightning. None of that moment is captured in the anime. I feel like they couldn't really portray that moment in the same way the community reacted to back when 1046 released.

Can't believe Toei was able to fumble so hard on the Gear 5 episodes with the exception of 1072, especially for how pacing has been treated as "normal" for these episodes. Like they really feel no different from the Katakuri fight episodes where the peak of the fight were good, but everything else is filler or easy skips like wtf. 1015 looking like the goat episode for a good while with how every other ep just seems to miss that perfect culmination of talent , work, and directing which these Gear 5 eps should have been able to match up to, but hasn't able to nail yet. 1071 and 1072 feel like they should have been put together to match up the insane marketing they were putting out that generated the unnecessary amount hype 1071 solely got.

I mean they also hyped-up Yamato through the moon purely because she was voiced by a popular VA. Nothing ultimately came of Yamato and she stayed at wano with the rest of the samurai. The point is that I get that everybody wants hi to be through the maximum but this is a weekly show and not every episode it's going to be series of bangers. Especially since a lot of gear 5 was split in between of dozen other plot points in the manga.

Other than the little bit of flashback at the start, 1074 was bar for bar 1046 except it added substance to all the inside scenes making the popping around the castle actually mean something. The chapter also just cut from Luffy dodging, to the inside, to him holding baby's first lightning bolt. I personally loved that it looked more like an actual electric force instead of just a zigzag (plus if I remember right he had goofy hands holding it in the manga as well)
