WTH?! This was absolutely DISGUSTING

Joe Veleno just did something completely out of line. Leading all Canadian Forwards with 2 goals 3 assists coming into todays game between Team Canada and Team Switzerland. Midway through the 2nd period, Veleno went down in a battle with Nino Niederreiter behind the Canada net as the teams battled for the puck as Veleno stomps on Niederreiter with his skate! This was just brutal. Stomping his skate blade right to Niederreiter's ankle, this looked like clear intent to injure. To make it worse, after the battle in front, it was Niederreiter who got called on this after a pretty good sell job from Veleno as this whole sequence just does not look great on Veleno. Most hockey fans can appreciate a big hit, or fight when the time is right for it. Hockey is physical, but it's still a sport. Trying to intentionally injure someone has no place in any sport. Unfortunately the NHL and other governing bodies are bound by collective bargaining or even unions, so criminals like this guy are protected. The players kind of do it to themselves. Agreed, skate blades are tools which allow us to play a sport we would otherwise be incapable of. Anyone who would try to use these tools as a weapon requires some re-education and harsh punishment. World's and NHL players represent the pinnacle of the sport, kids look up to them and rules and regulations are set based on their experiences. Not sure how canadians view their own team, but where I am from (czechia), canadian teams are well known for brutality and dirty plays (often ignored by the refs cause "they are the golden child" of ice hockey) whenever a match doesnt go their way, for decades at this point. With a skate blade, it’s extremely dirty. Something that should be reviewed after the game, if possible. I’m sure fighting isn’t allowed in this tournament, but the old school response would be the next time he stepped on the ice, someone would be coming for him. While I appreciate trying to cut down on fighting, I hate the instigator penalty that forces most fights to be mutually agreed upon in some way. This is a case where he should be grabbed into a fight whether he wants it or not. That five also didn’t do any favors, in my opinion.

As a Canadian I always enjoy a good hard game but that's not hockey and it's embarrassing. He needs to be held accountable for that. That kind of behavior needs to be removed from the game.

Ya... Even if you're inclined to think that he was just trying to free the puck and not stomp on him, it was so reckless and dangerous that it still warrants a suspension. If they determine it was for sure intent to injure (as it appears to be to me), he should probably get tossed from the tournament.

I’m Canadian. That was a dirty move, and then to take a dive in front of the net!? That type of play is something we regularly see in soccer and basketball. It has no place in hockey and I hope he gets suspended.

That stomp was hot garbage, what a disgrace to have that man wear that jersey to represent our country. Get him out. When I first seen this I actually was hoping the Swiss would win that one all because of that one incident.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I witnessed it live. I think there needs to be an example set that this is not acceptable in Ice Hockey or any sport for that matter. I reckon he should be banned from playing international ever again...
