That would be a beautiful story to see the boys grow up and be champions like their father. Dan left a wonderful legacy, and I’m glad he is still being remembered today.

I can understand that feeling. As humans we can have such a weird perception of risk. Even though it seems the opposite of what you expect the irony is that there’s probably more risk in driving to the track in their family car than there is while racing when they get there. We take what we see as acceptable risks everyday without thinking about them but hesitate at others that “seem” more dangerous. If we restricted our lives to only the “safe” things we might be surprised at how small they actually became. At what point do we stop living because the risk is too great.

I'm so happy to see you all doing well despite the tragedy. I was there that day. I worked the Sunoco gate. Dan and I talked a bit over that weekend. We talked about family because my son was a cub scout at the time. Some were coming from camp to the race to see the Boy Scout Car. I showed him pics on my phone. I explained I was new to the track. My second major event. But I loved it because I had a friend who I grew up with who raced. He was just super nice and easy to talk to. He told me he enjoyed making new friends. I remember the day B4 he was rushing to meet his friend and family to go to Dinner that night. The next day. He said dinner was amazing. I said Have a great race. Be safe. He said thanks. Until we meet again. See ya soon. It still breaks my heart to this day. I think of you all often. Dan was one of a kind. Even in our short few days as "new friends" Bless you all. Sending love to you. Shannon❤️

I respect parents who leave the choice to their kids achieve their dreams despite how dangerous. Parents who don't let their kids follow a dream because THEY are too worried are the selfish parents. I storm chase and it's always been my dream. My parents of course will always worry because that's what parents do but they have always supported me. It's in my blood it's a part of me and I've dreamt of it as a young child. Same goes for these 2 boys and their mom - so despite everything mad respect for her.

Oh man, I remember it just like it was yesterday, when Dan Wheldon won the Indy 500, it was magical. I also sadly remember when he was sadly killed at Las Vegas, the horrific footage, like many I was shocked, with my eyes wide open when I saw the footage. I would love to see both Sebastian and Oliver race in IndyCar one day, and the icing on the cake would be one of them winning the Indy 500

He was one of the greatest ambassadors our sport has ever seen. Even if he wasn't going to take over Danica's ride the following year, he would have been excellent as a commentator. Dan won the Indy 500, yet didn't qualify for Vegas unless he would start last and basically become a circus (and rating's) stunt for a million dollars.
@v12tommy3 жыл бұрын
What do you mean he didn't qualify? He qualified better than multiple drivers, but recieved a penalty for crossing the white line. Of course it didn't matter, as in order to go for the $5 million challenge, he'd be starting from the back anyway.
@jameshoran83 жыл бұрын
@@v12tommy Dan won Indy previously that year but could not find sponsors so he could not field a team for the various Indy races during the year. He was invited to Las Vegas with the proviso he'd start last and try for a $1 million dollar prize should he be the winner.
@v12tommy3 жыл бұрын
@@jameshoran8 It was actually a $5 million prize, and had he won, he was going to split the winnings with a fan. He still had to qualify for the race though. He qualified 28th out of 34 cars, and then took the option of starting last to go for the $5 million. And I actually misspoke in my previous comment. It was Buddy Rice who was penalized for dropping below the white line in qualifying, not Wheldon.
