The biggest issue in Connecticut is the locals clogging the passing lane. It's always a CT plate in left lane, blocking traffic, creating mile long traffic jams because people can't comprehend the law KEEP RIGHT, EXCEPT TO PASS. If the state police would just enforce the passing lane law, you wouldn't be having people speeding, weaving through traffic. Once you pass on the left, get back into the travel lane. It's a very simple directive to follow, yet locals in CT don't seem to grasp it.

The only problem of speeders is most vehicles are not designed for fast speeding. The second, the people are trained for driving fast and the roads have to much traffic. With the right vehicle, training and traffic driving fast is not by it self dangerous. I am trained and lived in a place that driving over 150 is ok. Not in U.S.

@mikemrod-71673 күн бұрын
I agree. Speed limits on US roads, especially highways, haven’t kept up with the modernization of vehicles that can travel at greater speeds much more safely than older model cars. Better breaking, better suspension, greater controlled acceleration, and overall better handling. While on the thruway here in upstate NY in see the average driver, doesn’t matter what age, race or gender going 10 or more above the posted speed limit which can vary from 55 to 65. I usually try to not go higher than 10 over since you run the risk of getting stopped (I learned this by doing 92 in a 65😮😅). I was respectful and luckily the trooper let me off with a seat belt ticket in place of a speeding ticket.

@@mikemrod-7167 it's not the cars, it's the roads, as someone stated, too many narrow, winding roads and fcking left hand exits, that make raising the speed limit a d3ath sentence
@mikemrod-7167Күн бұрын
@@tomservo5007 While this is true for most local and side roads, there are many straightaway roads such as most sections of the US Thruway system that would allow for higher speeds, instead of 65 miles per hour. Something like the thruway should allow drivers to drive at a rate of at least 85 miles per hour in my opinion, provided that the road is straight for a few miles. This doesn’t necessarily mean that all sections of said highway should be set for such speeds. And, atleast in NY State, left hand exits/entrances are very rare.

I’ve been driving for 6 years, both as an Uber driver and as a cargo van driver (delivery driver). In my opinion, speeding on the highway is relatively safe. However, speeding in residential areas is not acceptable due to the presence of children. Most auto collisions, based on my observation, occur on roads with stop signs, during tailgating, on snowy, foggy, or rainy days, or at poorly designed and complicated intersections such as multiple-lane traffic circles (roundabouts). Catching speeders on a bright, sunny day seems to be a waste of time, in my opinion.
@OttoTetrazzini5 күн бұрын
Roads and traffic law are still living in 1956. Meanwhile, vehicle safety and technology easily allows for speeds at 80mph. With all the taxes collected by CT in 7 decades, you'd think perhaps they could modernize interstates to allow for higher speeds. But then again, that would put a dent in their revenue collection.
@kirk16184 күн бұрын
They did have a chance. Your gas tax is supposed to be for funding the highways. Years ago, in the 70s, the politicians decided to put the fuel tax proceeds into the general fund. They spent the money on other things other than roads and bridges. The interstates were still fairly new and didn't need much for maintenance and upgrades. Instead of collecting and investing for the future, the money has been spent, the fuel tax increased, the addition of the state income tax, and much more. What do you, as a CT taxpayer have to show for it? An antiquated highway system, funds piddled away, and more revenue generating schemes coming from your state government. I know, I was there in the 70's, 80's, and 90s. I heard the promises, saw the removal of the tolls on 95, have seen the perpetual construction. We left. I don't even like going back to visit. The traffic is insane. Who would have ever thought I-95 would be stop and go from NY to RI? Anyone with a little fore thought would have. Now there is so much traffic, safety regulations, and behind the 8 ball, CT will never be able to afford bringing the CT interstates to modern standards. Keep voting those politicians in that will spend your blind. I'm not accusing any political party, look at the individuals.

No one maintains a car that they are abusing. Try buying a used M3 from a young male driver. Lower income people skimp on their car's maintenance. Sometimes I think people should be allowed to get a permit to speed. The permit should only be valid for cars that are new to a maximum age of 5 years and a maximum odemetor of 75,000. The permit should be valid for 1 year and cost $100 for every MPH above the speed limit allowed and the fine for speeding without a permit should be $1,000 for every MPH above the posted speed limit.

“Everyone speeds “says Booker, everyone but the CSP Troopers, hahaha, they go by me 20 to 25 miles over the speed limit with no lights and sirens or in pursuit, just getting off the highway and going into Golds Gym with a tank top, shorts, and sneakers ! Seen it myself first hand HYPOCRISY !!!

Most speed limits on US roads are stuck in the bygone era. Modernization of vehicles now allow for greater speeds at a safer cost than before. Technological advancements ranging from better breaking systems, better controlled acceleration, better arrow dynamics and overall better handling equate to being able to handle higher speeds more safely than older model cars.

looks like the speed limit needs to increase to accommodate the higher HP cars

Its funny how they show the cop speeding going over 100. If cops want the public to obey the law, it will start with them first. And the 55mph speed limit is horrible they place it so low so people can speed and they can give out tickets. If we all follow the speed limit, it will always cause traffic. Go 55 mph on the highway and watch how many people rock around you.

Use your cruise control! It will keep you out of trouble on the highway!

It's not just technology in the cars making people want to go a little faster, it's highway design. Wide open spaces cause you to have less of a perception of speed. So 100 mph on the open freeway feels like 60 on a narrow tree lined two lane.

Cars are getting faster, but they refuse to raise the speed limits. New cars get better mileage at certain speeds. I've seen cars get better mileage at 80 than 70, so the answer I'd simple. Raise the speed limits on high ways

it will always be funny to me how normal people think of 100 mph being some absurdly fast speed when ive sat on motorcycles that could hit 180.

As someone who drives those highways I fully support these efforts. I have literally called them while driving to demand they enforce the laws.

Come to route 7 in Danbury/Ridgefield the speed limit is 45, people drive 100 our police are not enforcing the speed and you never see them doing anything.
