Singapore has a high GDP but also very high inequality, probably one of the highest in the world. Compared to Taiwan, salaries are higher but it's also relatively low compared to truly developed nations. Reasons for why Facebook, Google and the likes set up HQs in Singapore is because Singapore is English-speaking so it's easier to do business and also relatively developed compared to its neighbours. On top of these, Singapore also has low labour costs due to low salaries for skilled labour so it becomes attractive to set up offices here. But generally the common folk in Singapore don't live in luxury like many outsiders think. Most live very frugally and many live paycheck to paycheck.

Actually in my opinion as a Malaysian Singapore is already a truly developed country just same part of Singapore like minimum salary is not there due to Singapore government want to make salary by demand and supply to show that this country is pro business that it

@@jly5828 I think Singapore is more developed compared to its neighbours. But then again, its neighbours are true third world countries. I would say Singapore is in between 1st and 3rd world in terms of true living standards for the common people. Most true blue Singaporeans are not able to get into local universities. The salary for them without a degree is around $2000, some even less during their starting years. In Singapore, that salary is almost poverty level salary. If you want to see whether Singapore is truly a developed country for its true blue citizens, go to any of the more refined and posh places of Singapore. Most of these places are frequented by expats and foreigners. Sure there are Singaporeans but they are usually the minority or disproportionately small compared to total population sizes. Why? Because most Singaporeans cannot afford those services. As I say, most Singaporeans live very frugally and live paycheck to paycheck. They are not able to enjoy other finer things in life. Sure they won't starve to death but they are living barely meeting the basic necessities. This is not the living standards of truly developed countries. The GDP per capita is high because tax is low so it attracts big capital to park their wealth here. But that kind of gains in GDP is almost never going to be seen or felt by the normal folk on the street.

among the richest and the poorer nation is not from Singapore. In fact that happens in USA, China, India, Thailand, even Malaysia
Well said! The Singaporean guy is intelligent and fair in his rebuttal to the Malaysian guest who has no ground about whose food is better. Furthermore, he sounded petty when he brought out his own personal unfair treatment in Singapore? It is irrelevant as the topic for the day is about countries not his experience?

let's face it, we all know malaysia's food better. even a chicken rice at a normal kopitiam taste like Michelin 1-star quality. and more importantly, 3x cheaper leh!
