winning that grand slam was never below jorgens capability. he had all the tools to get there...good mobility if not the best, powerful forehand and anticipation and not to mention that tremendous backhand. maybe if he won an olympic like seoul when he played almost 10 times better, he wouldnt have had to push himself so much at such an age.

I agree, that has to be one of the reasons for his cometition spirit in that age. On the other hand, players like him and Saive didnt have a reason to stop. They didnt have hard injuries and pain to deal with. Since table tennis is their life, its logic they wouldn't stop so easy :)

@@marinmandusic1153 Saive was injury free till his late 30's but Persson did have major injury problems after having a car accident in 1994.

Well, to be honest you're right :) It's an old cat playing with its food ;-) No, really, in some points you see that Ma Lin is only giving 70 or 80%, whilst Persson is always at his best!

HAHAHA persson would be lucky to beat ma lin. are you kidding. persson played extremely well and ma lin didn't go all out cuz he knows persson is very experienced. unless you're ma long, xu xin, zhang jike, u wouldn't want to go full power vs a guy who blocks and counters with placement and touch almost as good as waldner
