Reasons I like Wulff Den 1. Comes off as completely practical, and down to earth. 2. Product reviews don't contain a lot of emotional fluff. He won't try and hype a product just because he likes it (even when he likes it a lot) 3. Is not a "weird" retro gamer. Trust me when I say that there are a LOT of weird retro gamers out there. Wulff curses, and he just comes off as completely likable and not awkward. 4. Casual review formats are far too rare... he provides something I am missing when I watch a lot of other reviews. 5. His ads are hilarious. 6. Production quality is through the roof in my opinion. I don't know how he manages that camera quality. Highlights the items, and even frames himself quite nicely - and it's all cohesive what? 7. He doesn't seem to give a tilt towards any company provided items in his reviews. Overall Wulff just makes good content, and it gives me what I'm looking for. I enjoy watching his reviews all the way through because he is very thorough while also just telling it like it is. There's not a lot of lingering on inconsequential details, or highlighting things that most people won't even care that much about. Very happy I found this dudes channel.

I remember when the rp3+ was announced in the discord. The first thing I thought was "why does this exist?" And the more I thought about it the more it made me dumbfounded. I brought up in the chat that THIS should just have been the 3 instead of the 3 being a 2+, and was basically met with a resounding "just don't buy it" which is just like..... okay? I haven't bought it, and it still doesn't change that this device is dumb and has less of a reason to be made compared to the 2+ which was a reasonable upgrade.

I have to be the RP3+ apologist here. I had a RP2+, and the RP3+ is a significant improvement - sold it and never looked back. I understand the RP3/3+ arguments and issues, and acknowledge the shady practice. But if you did not have a RP3, the 3+ is a fantastic, capable device that can still play more GC/PS2 games (yes, albeit with tinkering), N64 and Dreamcast upscaled and Widescreen, and PSP reliably at upscaled resolutions. I love mine, and have been playing PS2 and GC games I never played before - enjoyably. Thank you for acknowledging it is a good device, despite the company's bad consumer practices. Edit: I highly recommend the RP3+ community spreadsheet for tinkering the get GC/PS2 working well. @fruitloops70642 жыл бұрын
@@corsinivideos the thing with RP3+ vs Odin is that the Odin is noticeably more expensive and more importantly way less portable. RP3+ is vita sized as opposed to the Odin being switch-sized which means that the former can be pocketed pretty comfortably and is easy to travel. Odin has to genuinely compete with the steam deck in comparison due to its price approaching that device AND not being pocketable just like the Steam Deck despite being noticeably smaller. RP3+ smaller size and generally considered better screen (according to most people who own both) and better pixel density makes it way better than the Odin for pre-GC emulation too as it gives you a way to play a massive catalogue that is very light-weight and good looking. They're different devices that cover different niches, that is why Retroid and AYN have been rumored to be working together for awhile.

I did get lucky, and bought the RP3+ as my first retro device. I bought a 3rd party protective case for it on Amazon, got the HDMI cable separately for cheaper, and bought a tiny little 8bitdo Zero 2. For me emulating PS2, and Gamecube / 3DS is more of a PC thing anyways, and kind of pointless when I own a 3DS*. So this thing is the absolute perfect device for playing all of my favorite super retro games. "Plus", I've been on the wave of RetroAchievements since discovering it in 2016. To be honest I'm glad that the Retroid Pocket 3+ exists. It eliminates the constant struggle I had of plugging in my Razer Kishi / Dualsense / Bluetooth (anything) into my phone, and that's all I could ask for. Worth the price point just for getting rid of that annoying external controls factor, easily.

I agree that their desicions about dealing with the RP3 issues and the RP3+ release date don't look good from the POV of their customers, and I also think that it's important that gaming content creators addressing these issues in their videos. But I want to mention that nobody's perfect and even big tech companies make a lot of strange or bad decisions and then don't do anything about it for ages. So I think Retroid's actions here are definitely not good, but at least they kinda tried to do something. And RP3+ is a really decent device. I've got it for 1,5x of it's price (because of some logistics issues I can't buy it directly from official site and that overpriced listing was the only option to get it) and I'm still pretty happy with it. I wanted a compact device with smooth PSP gameplay and good Android performance, so I can use it not only as a retro-gaming device, but also as a pocketable tablet/mediacenter. With upgraded RAM and CPU the RP3+ seems to be a perfect option for my usercase.

I also stupidly preordered the RP3 right away and my right analog stick was DOA. I sent them a video, and they were ultimately willing to replace it, but I’d have to ship mine back and wait for the replacement. They were at least nice enough to ship me a replacement board, but geez… I’m scared to see how long this thing lasts.

I ended up keeping the dust and now I have a brand new screen and face in case it would get too much damage, wich is not the case so far.

So they continue to pump out bulls#!% and we're all happily paying. Bob and Taki (among others) are still making videos about it, and we're happily watching. There is literally no reason for Retroid to change. There's great reasons for Ayn and Miyoo to follow Retroid's footsteps to increase their margins! I appreciate the honest review Bob. I feel like most devices that come with a preorder/ waitlist come with their own problems. I fixed my own steamdeck trigger when my preorder came in because, at the time, RMA time was a big mystery. But the steamdeck has replacement parts and guids to help with the basic repairs now. These Chinese handhelds are very much "E-waste tech" in the sense that they are GREAT when they work, but not always repairable easily and often require a full replacement especially by the average user. Any handheld manufacturer that provides extra parts, OR good RMA, OR their product is mostly standard off the shelf parts, or ANY of these in some kind of combination will always get my vote. One nice thing about Retroid is they are seemingly providing at least one upgrade per "shell" or "chassis" so that if your unit breaks you might still be able to replace or upgrade your systems main board.

What does it matter, if you are satisfied with the current models specs? Are you someone that has to buy every iteration of a product just for marginal increases in performance? Why? It's like people that build a new high-end PC every year or 2. Unless you're a content creator or for some reason need every bit of performance, it's just a waste of money.

It'll be more expensive though. If you don't wanna play the new ps4/5 etc games then grab this one.
@geordie71662 жыл бұрын
Gamecube and playstation 2 emulation does work, you just have to change the settings per game slightly and they work very well - 80-100% FPS. It's just wrong to say that they don't work, I've got about 25+ GC and 30+ PS2 games to work near perfectly!
@geordie71662 жыл бұрын
I've even got a handful of Wii and 3DS games to work as well, imo it's the best bang for your buck and 100% worth buying if you ignore the the shady retail practices...

When you were recommending this handled device for 2021 and last year. Looks great but always afraid of being burned for buying the “inferior” product before a new one gets released two months after the last device. Got a Steam Deck last year and been quite happy I’ll most likely stay clear away from Retroid products due to their frequent quaintly over quality. Furthermore, Taki Udon’s video about RP3 being a lackluster product that was essentially a cash grab. For anyone getting into emulation this is a decent product but you could honestly get a decent personal laptop or tablet and get the same results. Keep doing what you’re doing Bob!

Kudos for pointing out the difference between shady business dealings and quality of the device. Instead of just letting buyer's remorse drive the entire narrative.

I would suggest sticking with the dolphin for handhelds installed on the rp3+ it runs about the same as mmjr2 but it's a little more accurate and allows for sub 1x resolutions so you can run more games. If the issue is the button mapping not saving all you have to do is creat per game controller profiles and save them.
@thefreshtowel98152 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend trying Dolphin MMJR 11505, I went from kinda playing games with sub1x resolutions to steady fps, above 1x resolutions and enhancements. Across the board better resolution and performance than Dolphin for handheld and Dolphin MMJR2 and I find it has more options to get more performance out of games in general.

What's with the aspect ratio of this video? I haven't seen black bars this bad since we went from 4:3 to 16:9 but still had loads of 4:3 content to watch and play. There isn't anything worthwhile done with the extra width either, I don't need to see more of the background behind you. This could be cropped back to 16:9 and nothing would be lost except the black bars on my screen. Please go back to a normal aspect ratio for future videos.

I am super pissed because all the hype over the retroid pocket 3 was REAL and I am one of them to pre order (know that I am living in a third world country and I paid for 4000 taxes included which is 2 month of min wage cost)and after it passed from pre order they immediately pull about the "3+" model this is backstabbing their customers nothing less fuck if I was living in america or smth I could easily bought the + model since it's only 150$ for god sake

I wanted to get the 3 for my brother as a present. I’m so glad I watched your video before because it would have been a terrible gift! My bro isn’t as tech savvy as me and I would’ve given him a broken gift and he wouldn’t be able to fix it himself. I didn’t get it and won’t be getting any more of their products after what happened, like you said, how can you trust them?

I ordered the Retroid Pocket 3+ on Dec 26th and it shipped from the factory on Dec 31st. So they must be caught up. I am guessing it will take about 2 weeks to ship from China to US. This will be my first handheld emulator, if I get a lot of use out of it, I will likely upgrade to whatever is top-of-the-line in a year or two. But this should get me into handheld emulation without committing too much money upfront. Hopefully I don't regret not going for the Odin Pro instead......

I've been flirting with the idea of getting this thing for a couple weeks. PS2 and Gamecube emulation are the benchmark I'm looking for. Some reviewers say it can emulate PS2 just fine, others say it's unplayable. I would go for the Odin, but I not sure about spending that much money on something that I would still have to wait an unknown amount of time on. My best bet is probably just to wait for the next iteration of the Pocket.

All you saying to wait wait wait because they’ll be releasing another in a few months…….. you may as just well wait for the rp5+ at that point. I’m happy with the 3+. It can play all the GameCube and PS2 games I love. Can’t ask for anything more. Plus, the novelty actually wears off after using it. If you like configuring and playing with setting to make things run better, that’s all you need , because the novelty wears off anyway

I bought a Retroid Pocket 3 at launch and I found it amazing, specially for streaming games with Moonlight, and I was thinking on getting the motherboard upgrade, but now with Gamestream being faced out, I don’t know. (P.S.: I can’t make Sunshine work in my laptop, I don’t know why but is probably related to Optimus. Gamestream worked fine with a HDMI Dummy Plug).

I know this is comparable to the Anbernic Rg505 which I have and I would say the PS2 emulation is a lot better than I expected! But it depends on the game. Rpgs and horror games run more than well enough most of the time, but more action focused games are gonna be in slow motion or just not work. Contra Shattered Soldier, Gradius V and Fatal Frame II have been my favorite games so far. Persona 4 also works well enough but has audio issue
@HardcoreTanoshii2 жыл бұрын
Retroid's customer service is TOTAL dogshit. Also, I bought the upgrade kit for the 3+. The whole idea is that you get a separate console using the 3's PCB and can have a TV console. Problem is, it doesn't even work. The PCB isn't designed to work without a screen attached to the board (not the HDMI port). They just kind of don't tell you that.

Yeah coming from somebody who held off on a handheld emulation system for many years due to price and power, I skipped the Retroid Pocket 3 since I saw it wasn't powerful enough. When I saw the RP3+ drop, I bought it immediately. Now I can sit on it until I have the means to get an AYN or Steam Deck. I can see why all the users who bought the RP3 are mad, but nobody forced you to buy anything, you work and consume how you choose. You can't be angry at a small Chinese business because they had plans they had to follow, couldn't meet deadlines due to Covid but still have to release. Granted they could've made a bigger surplus and released it later than they initially did, but with all the Covid constraints in China the people were rioting and clashing with the government; the government was even welding apartment complex doors closed to keep people inside people were jumping from apartment windows. Retroid warehouse was directly affected by all these things. All you guys just blindly consuming and gaming need to keep all these things in mind when buying these products from different eco-systems.

"Imagine Nintendo saw stick drift and just put new buttons in the box, you know how to deal with it" Dude RETROID ISN'T NINTENDO, Retroid doesn't have 1/10 the resources Nintendo does, why do you hold a small company like Retroid to the same standard as Nintendo when if it was up to Nintendo, Retroid would be destroyed along with every other emulation device. I get being frustrated with Retroid but don't drag them to make Nintendo seem like they're keeping retro gamers in mind. You sound like a spoiled child tbf, someone who gets every single device that comes out. >.>
@devynfox22322 жыл бұрын
The more I watch your video the more I see you're completely out of touch and are placing these completely different companies at the same standard when you just, shouldn't. You need to mess with settings, change resolutions, change graphic backends, play around with it. I have a big log of PS2 games and GC games working perfectly. Yes 4 different Dolphin emulator apps to run them but they all work.
