The first time I learned how far some gamers were willing to go for even ONE day of early access was back in 2011. Someone obtained an early copy of CoD: MW3, and placed it on an eBay auction. The copy went for...wait for it... TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. If I had 10K, the LAST thing I would do is spend that on a newly released $60 videogame for a 24-hour jump start. These are the people EA and other publishers are teasing with early access periods, and it's working. FOMO mixed in with our hyperactive internet culture that's always pushing people to pursue the next new thing is a helluva drug. Even more so if a person's influencer/content creator livelihood depends on that. It's beyond obscene for publishers to do this, but if players didn't buy into this garbage in the first place, their grift would've failed. Until enough players revolt, this will be the new normal. Until something worse comes along...
